It’s Saturday once again – Hallelujah! And it’s a Saturday in my favorite season of the year! It’s No-Heat-and-No-AC Season! The windows are wide open and I can hear the birds and the frogs and the neighbor’s geese. And the occasional truck or car on the road nearby – not my fave sound of nature, but it is what it is! We get two No-Heat-and-No-AC seasons here in GA – the second one happens in the Fall! Love ’em both. 🙂
My card today is another shaker card. You’re probably thinking….seriously? She figures out how to do one and has a cool new tool to make them easy – and that’s all she’s going to do?!? Well, I promise this will be my last one for a month. Okay – maybe a week. But they’re just so cool!
This one didn’t start out as a shaker card, anyway. But about half way thru, when I was making the sentiment – the lightbulb went on and it just made sense! I used the brand new stamp set (so new you can’t even get it yet!) from the upcoming 2016-2017 Annual Catalog called Moroccan Nights. Since I can’t get the Moroccan DSP yet, I paired it with the vibrantly colored Bohemian DSP – which is retiring on 31 May! There’s a sentiment from Cottage Greetings and one from Sunburst Sayings, too – just to keep ya on yer toes! 🙂 Take a look-see:
My design came straight out of my noggin!
I can hear y’all rolling your eyes, you know! But you’re right to roll ’em, cuz you know that last statement was a total fibulation!! Yea – you’re right – I used a layout design from Mojo Monday. Sketch Challenge #444, to be exact!
I started by SNAILing a panel of the Bohemian DSP to a Very Vanilla card stock mat. Then I pulled out a piece of Bermuda Bay card stock – and created a little more background of my own. Using one of the cool stamps in Moroccan Nights, I stamped the image several times (I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to get things all lined up – this is a Clear stamp set, so you can’t see thru it at all 😉 ) in Island Indigo. That gave me a tone-on-tone-plus look! Then I cut three small panels and SNAILd them each to a Very Vanilla mat. And SNAILd them to the card front.
I did a lot of heat embossing and a fair amount of fussy cutting on this card, but the fussy cutting was pretty quick and easy, so don’t fret! To make the shaker element, I started by heat embossing the large and lovely image from Moroccan Nights. I first inked the stamp in Versamark Ink and then colored it with Blackberry Bliss and stamped the Very Vanilla card stock. I quickly sprinkled the image with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up. That gave me a shiny, Blackberry Bliss-embossed image! Which I cut out with my Paper Snips (I didn’t even try to cut the little spoke-y doohickeys on the circle…..see ’em down there? By the way – that long strip image running up the left side of the card case is what I used to make my Island Indigo-on-Bermuda Bay image for my small panels.
Then I used a 1 7/8″ Circle die from my Circles Collection Framelits (these are retiring, by the way – to be replaced with a huge Circles Layering Framelits set!) to cut the middle out of my fussy cut, heat embossed medallion. I used my Island Indigo, Pool Party and Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Write Markers to color the resulting frame!
The sentiment is from Sunburst Sayings and I just stamped it in Crushed Curry on a piece of Very Vanilla and then punched it with my 2″ Circle Punch. And I was ready to assemble the shaker. I used some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to stick a circle of Window Sheet material (I punched it with the soon-to-retire 2 1/2″ Circle Punch) to the back of the embossed frame. Then I ran a few strips of the new Foam Adhesive Strips around the back of the frame to create the window. The sequins are all gold ones from the Metallics Sequin Assortment (yes, I picked them all out!), which I carefully piled on top of my sentiment. Then I turned my frame over and stuck it down on top of the sentiment circle! Done!
The lanterns are all heat embossed in Gold Stampin Emboss Powder on Very Vanilla Card stock, and then fussy cut (yes, I cut off all the chains – I’m not crazy!!). I added a little Island Indigo image, also from Moroccan Nights, to a few of them. Then I colored a couple of Pearl Basic Jewels with a yellow sharpie and stuck them in the center.
I don’t know why. Just did it.
The other two lanterns I colored in with my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker.
I stuck the shaker piece onto the card front with some Liquid Glue. For the banners, I cut a piece of Gold Foil and another strip of Bohemian DSP, bannerized them with my Banner Triple Punch, and used a little bit of Liquid Glue to stick them on.
All of the lanterns are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals – the two on the shaker piece have a combo of Dimensionals (double thickness to accommodate the shaker) and Liquid Glue. And the card front was done!
For the inside liner, I stamped a sentiment from Cottage Greetings in Crushed Curry on a panel of Very Vanilla. Then surrounded it with a few more of the little starburst image from Moroccan Nights, stamped in Island Indigo – and filled in with Crushed Curry. I matted that onto a Bermuda Bay panel and then SNAILd all that to a piece of Very Vanilla-matted Bohemian DSP.
I SNAILd it all into my Bermuda Bay card base – and SNAILd the card front on, too. And that was it for the card!
I added more Island Indigo star images to the front of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope…
…and cut a liner from Bohemian DSP with my Envelope Liner Framelits!
Et Voila! I’m kind of tickled with the sort of exotic flavor of this card! I think it looks like the inside of a bedouin tent in Lawrence of Arabia! If the movie was in color, that is!
The Bohemian DSP is one I sometimes forget to pull out, but it’s so vibrant and colorful….I really should use it more! I hope that you have it – if not, grab it before it’s gone! 🙂 This DSP – and much much more! – are on the retiring list. Lots of items reduced in price – some up to 50% off! Check it!

So cool! Love the little lanterns, your fussy cutting skills are far superior to mine. 🙂 Great colors too!
Thanks, Amy. Yes, I’m a fussy cutting Goddess. As long as the shapes are square or rectangular! 😉
Good on ya! Good card. Good cutting…like coloring in the lines, sort of. 😃
Yep – sort of! Thanks, Mom! 🙂
Very cool! Love those lanterns-wow! You rocked the sketch, too! I am enjoying your shaker cards, Keep ’em coming. I love the open window time of year, too! 🙂
Thanks, Jari – I’ve not made them before, so they’re kind of fun! And I fight closing the windows when summer and winter “hit”! 🙂
