Stampin’ Up! Joyful Season Cardinal Welcomes Fall!

Well, it’s Sunday.  And we’re on the way north to Athens to watch Chris get his white coat!  And I’m blogging for Monday cause I figure we’ll be gone all day. In fact, I’m chatting with Chris’ parents, in the car, and blogging at the same time!  I’m a multi-tasker that way! It’s just how I roll.

Just to be clear – I am NOT driving! 😉

I got up early and made this card using two new products from the Holiday Catalog – going LIVE in just 15 days!  I used the new stamp set called Joyful Season and one of the wondrous new Textured Embossing Folders – Woodland.  This one is truly one of my favorite new things – looks just like an aspen grove in the mountains of Colorado!  I combined them to welcome Fall.  Take a look-see:

I started with two identically-sized panels of Whisper White Thick card stock.  For the top one, I first cut out the round window, using the 5th-from-the-center die in my Circles Collection Framelits.  Then I ran it back thru the Big Shot in the Woodland TIEF.  To bring out the texture of the aspen trees, I used a Crumb Cake-inked Sponge Dauber ever-so-lightly, just on the trucks and branches.  I stayed away from the background as best I could.

I made the fall leaves using the leaf shape in the new Into The Woods Elements (avail 1 Sept).  I used a tiny dab of Multi-purpose Liquid Glue on the back of the leaf, and picked it up with a clear acrylic handle.  Then I inked it up with my Pumpkin Pie Classic Stampin’ Pad, stamped it off once on scrap paper, and then stamped the embossed panel.  I did that three times.  Then, I adhered my well-inked wooden leaf to the card front with a little more of the Liquid Glue.  The second wooden leaf is inked in Crushed Curry.

Then I laid that piece over the other panel, and lightly scribed the circle window onto the bottom panel.  I used a stylus to make the circle – just lightly so I could see where I wanted to put my Cardinal.

The Joyful Season stamp set is a photo-polymer set, and it has several stamps to “build” the cardinal.  I started with the outline of the bird, stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Then I stamped his body parts in Real Red – this stamp is cool – it automatically adds shading to his body, giving him instant depth!  There are, in total, 4 stamps for the bird.  I used the beak-le (I was thinking about this this morning – if ponies have schnoozles, then birds must have….beak-les?!) stamp, inked in Hello Honey and the mask stamp inked in Tuxedo Black.  And all of a sudden – there’s a bird on your card!  Very fun.  I love seeing the real deal out in my trees – the males are just ridiculously RED and gorgeous!

I added the branch stamp, in Tuxedo Black, and then I colored the little berries with my Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Markers.  For the sentiment, I used a returning-favorite, For all Things.  I stamped it in Tuxedo Black – and that was it for my art piece.

I layered the embossed window panel over the art piece with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and then SNAILd the card front to my Real Red card base.

For the inside, I used a slightly-smaller-than-I-usually-do panel of Whisper White Thick card stock (I wanted a little wider frame of the Real Red), and stamped the branch again.  I colored the berries with my Stampin’ Write markers.

Et voila!  A beautiful male cardinal, sitting in a grove of Fall-naked aspens, waiting for winter’s arrival!

Hope that you like this – remember, the stamp set and TIEF will be available on 1 Sept – and that’s right around the corner!!

TTFN and see you tomorrow with the Tuesday Updates!

Mary
