One of the cool things about doing the catalog shares these past few weeks, was that it gave me the excuse to buy enough of each of the new items to ensure that I had a bit of a stash, too! 😉 I’m having a lot of fun playing with the new papers and trying out some of the new ribbons and embellishments as well. Well, this week, my upline challenged us to make projects using the color purple. I sorted thru all my new paper-toys, and stumbled onto the Farmer’s Market DSP. While some of the designs are a bit head-scratchery (“How in the world do I incorporate artichokes and lettuce into a card?” Any ideas out there?!?), there are many that are really awesome. I picked a few of those for today’s card (and got a purple challenge card in the bargain!). Take a look-see:
The layout for this card was inspired by the Mojo Monday Sketch 403. Click the sketch to go over to their website:
In addition to using “purple”, when I saw this sketch, I kind of immediately thought I could use my new Circle of Spring stamp set – which coordinates with the Wondrous Wreath thinlits dies – to make this card.
I started by SNAILing a piece of the Farmers’ Market DSP to a Blackberry Bliss card base. I just love this barn wood design – and wish there was a DSP full of all things barn woody! The two crossing rectangles are also made with the same DSP stack and I pierced them to make the borders called for in the sketch. I used my new Updated Essentials Piercing Template to guide my pierces. Punches? Pokes? Pricks? (sorry I said pricks…). I actually SNAILd the rectangles in place before I pierced them. PSA – don’t forget that you need a piercing tool and something squishy to pierce ON, in addition to the piercing template!
For the vertical banner, I pulled out some of the new Blackberry Bliss Striped Cotton Ribbon. I just snipped the ends to make the banner (ribbon doesn’t punch in punches very well!). I used a few glue dots to adhere it in place. Then it was time to build my wreath!
I first cut out the center of the wreath from a piece of Sahara Sand Card Stock (PSA2 – I first pulled out some Smoky Slate. Then, fortunately, I took a peek at the list of coordinating colors on the Farmer’s Marked DSP cover. Which told me that Gray wasn’t it! Sahara Sand was the neutral color of choice. For those of us who are a little color-coordination-challenged, this is one of the very coolest things about Stampin’ Up! They do the coordinating work for us!). After I cut out the wreath center, I stamped the wreath image from the Circle of Spring set. (PSA3 – the wreath center die leaves a little pointer – that you can line up with the arrow that’s on the stamp – it really helps get everything lined up correctly). Then I cut it out with the Wonderful Wreath thinlit. I really appreciate that the release of the this stamp set gave me a SECOND way to use my Wonderful Wreath thinlits dies (they also work on the Christmas Wondrous Wreath set!) Makes me feel so durned FRUGAL! 🙂
I colored the wreath with some Strawberry Slush, Blackberry Bliss, Mossy Meadow and a teensy bit of Elegant Eggplant markers. And then adhered it to the card with Dimensionals.
To make the little banner tag, I cut a short length of Sahara Sand and punched both ends with the new Triple Banner Punch. Then I stamped the sentiment from the Circle of Spring in Blackberry Bliss, and SNAILd it to the wreath. I also edged it with the Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Write Marker, just to give it a list edge. As it were!
I made the flowers by punching one flower with the Petite Petals Punch and one with the flower from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch pack. I glue-dotted the flowers together and then glue-dotted them to the banner and to the top of the wreath. I added a Pearl Basic Jewel to the banner flower and, using Liquid Multi-Purpose Glue, added a small Linen Thread bow to the flower at the top. And the front was done!
For the inside, I punched a few flowers with the Petite Petals and Itty Bitty Accents flowers across the bottom of a piece of Sahara Sand. Then I SNAIL’d a couple of scraps of the DSP behind the flower punches, and SNAILd the whole thing to the card base. To finish it off, I added a Pearl Basic Jewel to each flower. Et Voila!
I hope that you like this card – for me, it showcases one of the best color combinations. Sahara Sand is my all-time favorite Neutral! 🙂 And it marries with the Blackberry Bliss like a fiddler on a roof came up with the idea and sang about it!
