Stampin’ Up! Magical Mermaid Memories and More!

Happy happy HAAAAAWWWWMP Day!!  Hope your week is going well!

First the big news, in case you missed it yesterday!  The DAISY PUNCH IS BACK IN STOCK!  Don’t know for how long – hopefully for good, but…I sure wouldn’t hang too long before you snap it up!  Here’s a link to them in my Online Store (don’t forget to add the host code, y’all!!).

Now, you might think I’d have used the Daisy Punch in my card for today, but…that makes way too much sense, doesn’t it? Of course I didn’t use the Daisy Punch.  I used the Magical Mermaid stamp set.  And…a card from the Color Theory Memories & More Card Pack.  Take a look-see:

My layout was inspired – a little loosely, maybe! – by the sketch challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch: Continue reading

Stampin’ Up! Colorful and Seasonal Tides for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday, y’all – and welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!  It’s sketch week and I know all our ladies have made some beautiful projects for you.  Y’all be sure to hop thru all their blogs when you get done here! 🙂

Here’s our sketch…

I used kind of a plethora of goodies for this one – some available now and some next week!  I played with the Colorful Seasons stamp set and the Seasonal Layers Thinlits.  Added in a little Color Theory DSP.  Those are the things coming next week.  From the current catalog – and continuing next year – I used the Seaside TIEF and some High Tide.  Take a look-see:

I started with a double layer mat – one in Berry Burst (avail 1 June) and the second in Dapper Denim.  The bottom panel of the card front is a piece of Dapper Denim from the Color Theory DSP Stack.  First I cut the scallops using the edgelit die in the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, then I ran it thru the Big Shot in the Seaside TIEF.

I stamped the sentiment from Colorful Seasons in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  And then I had to “fix” it with my Stampin’ Write Marker.  If you make this card – don’t be like me!  Cut the scallop.  Stamp the sentiment.  Then emboss it in the Seaside TIEF.  Will be a much quicker route, I promise! 🙂

Next up, I made the top panel – starting with a piece of Crushed Curry paper from the Color Theory DSP.  I used my 1 1/2″ Circle Punch to make a stencil and – on the bottom edge of the DSP, sponged a Calypso Coral “sun”.  I pulled off the stencil and then continued with my almost-dry Sponge Dauber to add a “halo” of Calypso Coral around the circle.

Using the grasses and birds images from the High Tide stamp set, I added them in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

I built the card front by first adding the stamped Crushed Curry panel with Liquid Glue.  Then I added a strip of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon – for the “beach” – with Liquid Glue.  Finally, I added the “ocean”.

My chair is from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits.  First I stamped the Hardwood background image in Berry Burst on a piece of Berry Burst card stock, then cut the chair with the die from the Seasonal Layers.  I used Liquid Glue across the bottom of the chair and a few pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back of the chair and adhered it to the card front.  And the card front was done!

On the inside, I made another “sun” with my 1 1/2″ Circle Punch stencil in Calypso Coral on a Whisper White panel.  Then I added a second sentiment from Colorful Seasons in Tuxedo Black.

I double matted the panel on Dapper Denim and Berry Burst, then added it to my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another Calypso Coral sun and some High Tide birds and grasses on the front…

…and then I added a little more of the Dapper Denim paper from the Color Theory DSP to the envelope flap.  Just to do a little something different, I embossed it in the Seaside TIEF before I added it to the flap!

Et Voila!  I love the adirondack chair in the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, don’t you?  I think all the pieces and parts came together to make a pretty little beachside sunset scene!  Hope you like!

Stampin’ Up! High Tide on Your Side!

‘Sup, y’all?  Hope you weren’t adversely affected by the storms that were marching around yesterday!  We had some tornadoes in nearby areas – but it really dissipated by the time it reached us – never even got to the “scare Mary” point!  Just got a few rumbles of thunder – OBTW, Finn is not afraid of thunder.  Huge sigh of relief!  – and a nice afternoon of rain.  After the rain stopped it was so beautiful outside I just rebelled and opened some windows!  I don’t even care if the pollen is still high.  I can’t see it, so I’m pretending it doesn’t exist.

So there. 🙂

Before I get going – I saw that the Mini Egg Cartons are back in stock!  In plenty of time for your Easter projects.  You can get them right here…

Now, my card for today uses a stamp set that I’ve had a bit of a love-hate relationship with.  I’ve loved the projects I’ve seen on Pinterest that use it, and I’ve hated every effort I’ve made with it.

Until today!  I decided I was just going to….make…it…work for me!

The set I’m referring to is High Tide.  And…all of a sudden, it and I just…clicked!  And now I love it!

Yea – I change my mind quick-like.  That’s how I roll.

So…this card is all stamping and ink.  No bling.  No fussy cutting.  Just a pretty stamp set and a lot of color.  Take a look-see:

I know!  Right?  I DID it! 🙂

I played along with two challenges on this one.  The first, from CAS(E) This Sketch,  drove the layout…

And the second is the Just Us Girls Word Week challenge.

I started with a simple Whisper White panel.  Using the two-step stamp images in the High Tide set, I stamped the first lighthouse image in Real Red on the right side of the panel.  Over the top of that, I stamped the second lighthouse image in Smoky Slate.

Next I added some sand – using the sand image first in Crumb Cake and second in Soft Suede, offsetting the images just a tad.  I double stamped the “ocean” image, too – first in Pool Party and then (with a little offset) in Marina Mist.

I added the sentiment right over top of the lighthouse in Basic Black Archival Ink.

For the sky, I started with Soft Sky ink and “watercolored” it all over using my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush and picking up ink from the lid of the stamp pad.  Then I added some Island Indigo in the upper portion of the sky and some Daffodil Delight near the bottom.  Easy peasy, and using the Wink of Stella gives the sky a little shine!

Nobody doesn’t like a shiny sky!

The sea grasses around the base of the lighthouse are also from High Tide and I just stamped them all willy and nilly in Old Olive.  Finally, I added the birds image in Basic Gray Archival Ink!  Then I SNAILd the panel on a mat of Real Red and that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I made some more sand on a Whisper White panel.  I stamped it in Crumb Cake and Soft Suede (tip:  turn the stamp upside down so that the cutout for the lighthouse is pointing down, then just stamp it on your panel!).  I also added a peek of ocean in Pool Party and Marina Mist and a few birds on the ground in Basic Gray Archival Ink.  And yes, a few little sea grasses here and there in Old Olive!

I SNAILd the panel to a Real Red mat and into my Basic Gray card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Medium Whisper White Envelope got some more sand and sea and sea birds and sea grasses on the front…

…and I “watercolored” the envelope flap with Soft Sky, Island Indigo and Daffodil Delight using my Clear Wink of Stella.  Then I added some Basic Gray Archival Ink birds.

Et Voila!  People – I made an ocean scene painting!  All by myself!  Seriously – I have zero painting talents but this little stamp set helped me make a masterpiece.  She says modestly!  I’ve gone from “meh” to “oh please please please, SU! – make this one carry over!!”  Hope you like!  And will get. 🙂

FINN-FAN FIX….

Do y’all have mason bees where you live?

You know the ones I mean – they’re gihugic and move really really slow.

Except for when they zoooooom – and then they’re fast!  I love watching them fly!

Well, ours are back for the season!

And Finn met one yesterday!

Actually, he met two.

He was quite fascinated with them.  This picture is him watching the second one.  I wasn’t quick enough with the camera for the first go – with that one he had his nose pointed straight up in the air!  I guess I laughed when I realized what he was staring at so intently – and broke his  concentration.  So I had to wait for another photo-op!

The bees were almost as intrigued by him as he was of them.  They hovered round him for quite a while.

Then they decided he was just a silly goofus and off they went to do bee things.
