Stampin’ Up! Iconic Sophisticated Sled Sneak Peek Winter Card with Video Tutorial

Happy Friday, y’all!  Hope you’ve had a good week AND that the weekend is shaping up to be good, too.  🙂

When I did my Online Exclusive Pre-order reveal video last week, I was asked if I’d do a card with the new Sophisticated Sled Bundle so…I did!  And I paired it with the also-new Iconic Celebration 6″ x 6″ DSP to make a pretty winter card.  Take a look-see:

I started with a Moody Mauve card base and, using the snowflake image in the new Sophisticated Sled stamp set, stamped all over the front in Moody Mauve ink.

The new Iconic Celebrations DSP has a TON of patterns in it!

I selected two – the snowflakes and the stripes – and cut two 1 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ strips from each piece.  Then I cut each of the strips at the 1 1/2″ mark on the long side.

The result?  Eight pieces – which translates into TWO card fronts.  Oh – and TWO decorated envelope flaps! From two 6″ x 6″ pieces of DSP!  Boom!

Using Liquid Glue, I adhered four pieces to a Mossy Meadow mat – you can see above how that goes.  Then I adhered the matted panel to the card front with more Liquid Glue.

I used the dies in the Sophisticated Sled set to cut out a Moody Mauve runner.  From Early Espresso, I cut out the sled “deck” and steering….doohickey.🤷‍♀️

I adhered the deck and steering bar to the Moody Mauve runner using Liquid Glue, then adhered the sled to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I cut out a Mossy Meadow swag – there’s a die for that! – and adhered it to the sled with Liquid Glue.

Using the Dark Misty Moonlight Stampin’ Blend – I colored a length of white Baker’s Twine.

While the twine was drying – I made some skates!

Using the dies in the Sophisticated Sled set, I cut out two Very Vanilla boots, two Misty Moonlight laces and two Silver Foil blades.  The dies in the set cut out two at once, so it’s quick and easy!   I used Liquid Glue to adhere the laces and blades to the boots – and then I adhered the boots together (makes it easier to assemble the card front) with another dab of the Glue.

I used a Glue Dot to adhere a short little piece of the colored Baker’s Twine to the sled – they’re the “skate hanger”.  Then I tied a bow from the rest of the twine and adhered it with a Glue Dot.

I added the skates with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On a piece of Very Vanilla, I stamped the Sophisticated Sled sentiment in Moody Mauve and adhered it to the sled with Liquid Glue.

I stamped the cardinal image in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, cut it with the die in the set and colored it with Poppy Parade Stampin’ Blends.

Using a half Stampin’ Dimensional – I adhered the die cut cardinal over the bow at the top of the sled.

Finally – I added some new (coming on 3 July!!) Cherry Cobbler & Pearl Adhesive-backed Berries to the bough and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped the cardinal in Tuxedo Black in the corner of a Very Vanilla panel and colored the bird with the Poppy Parade Stampin’ Blends.

Then I stamped a blizzard of Sophisticated Sled snowflakes in Moody Mauve.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to the inside of the Moody Mauve card base and the card was done.

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Sophisticated Sled cardinal and snowflakes on the front…

…and more of the Iconic Celebrations 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Oh my – this is such a cute bundle – and I could see this Sophisticated Sled on my front door!  During the video I did making this card, someone suggested it would make a beautiful Christmas Tree ornament.  I love that idea!  And the new Iconic Celebrations DSP is….wonderful.  It truly does cover nearly every celebration you can think of! 🙂

She is truly beautiful and so is your card. Does she go out to the pasture when you clean the stall? Does Finn stay in the house or does he try to help? So many questions today! I’m not sure if I’m going to get this bundle. You and Amy might have to work on me a little harder…lol! Have a blessed day.

    • stampsnlingers

She spends the day outside eating, sometimes wading in the pond, sometimes snoozing under a tree. Then she’s up in her bedroom at night – with her hay and water and SEVERAl fans on her. Finn almost always is there – his “helpfulness” is…well. 🤷‍♀️. I accept the challenge! 🙂

  2. Amy Koenders

Such a pretty card! Love that sled die cut and the little skates top it off perfectly! Sweet pony too, can’t believe that she only gets one little peppermint. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

She IS a sweetie. And this is the EVENING peppermint. She gets two or three in the morning, too. Her life is very VERY hard! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

Mary, I really like your design idea. I have tweaked it a little for my Christmas cards but wanted to thank you for sharing this wonderful design. I have learned a tip about the placement of the laces on the ice skate that I thought you might find helpful. There is a small slit along the edge of the boot that you slide the wider edge of the laces into. Makes for a clean, more realistic look. Best wishes!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much! Yes, I learned that little tip, too….AFTER I made the skates and the video and the post! NEXT time I’ll be using it – thank you for sharing it with me! 🙂
