Good morning, y’all! It’s Thursday – which means it’s time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop. We’ve got a sketch challenge to work with and I’m excited to see what everyone brings to the table. I just know you’re going to see a ton of awesome-ness on the hop today!
My Mom’s birthday was yesterday and – since reading is the thing she likes to do more than almost anything else (I promise if she’s reading one book she’s reading three. At the same time! 😎😎). So – the book paper in the All About Autumn DSP seemed like it HAD to be on her birthday card. And – since it also happened to be a fun take on our sketch this week. I added some Autumn Leaves die cuts and a sentiment from Lasting Joy. And – I pulled out Places in the Heart, too. Take a look-see:
And here’s our sketch!
Okay – okay. It’s a pretty loose interpretation, but…I say it works! 😉
And – being a fun fold – I ALSO played along with the Creative Creases Anything Goes with a Fun Fold challenge!
I started with a basic Book Fold – one of my favorite fun folds EVER! – in Early Espresso cardstock. I scored a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of cardstock at 5 1/2” and 6 3/4” on the long side. Then I folded the 5 1/2” score line as a “mountain” – so….you know, ”regular”! – and at the 6 3/4” score in the opposite direction. Topographically speaking, that would be a “valley” fold!
Using Liquid Glue between the 5 1/2” and 6 3/4” score lines, I adhered the front of the card base to the back – just in that 1 1/4” area. This made the “book” or “side” fold.
Next up, I matted two pieces of the All About Autumn DSP on Moody Mauve then adhered it to both front panels of the card with Liquid Glue. I thought those shelved books were perfect for my Mom! Note: sadly, since I made this card, the All About Autumn DSP has retired. 😢😢😢. Hopefully you’ve still got some squirreled away so you can make this card if you like! 🤞🤞🤞
Using the cool Autumn Leaves dies, I cut three Distressed Gold Specialty Paper leaves, two Moody Mauve “twigs” (technically – these are veins for the leaves but…they’re twigs here!) and a smaller Crushed Curry “twig”.
I adhered all the “twigs – and two of the leaves – to the corner of the card front with Liquid Glue.
On a strip of Very Vanilla cardstock – I stamped the sentiment from Lasting Joy in Moody Mauve ink. Then I snipped a banner on one end and adhered the sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I tied a small simple bow from Linen Thread and adhered it with a Glue Dot – then added the final Distressed Gold leaf with a Dimensional and some Liquid Glue.
A few Brushed Metallic Adhesive-backed Dots finished off the card front!
On the inside, I matted some leather ottoman paper from the All About Autumn DSP on Moody Mauve and adhered it on the left side of the inside of the card. It just seemed…necessary!
Then I stamped the Places in the Heart sentiment in Moody Mauve on a piece of Very Vanilla. Over the top, I added a “vein/twig” from All About Autumn in Crushed Curry ink.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel on a piece of Moody Mauve cardstock and then into the card base – and the card was done!
My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got that Crushed Curry twig on the front…
…and more ottoman on the envelope flap. Never too many leather ottomans in a good library!!
Et Voila! I love how this card turned out – all library and leather – and Autumn Leaves! Perfect! The Lasting Joy set has such pretty sentiments – in sweet fonts – and Places in the Heart…while “for” Mother’s Day – seemed to fit right in. 😊😊
I hope you like!

Love this card Mary 🙂 Love the fold, the DSP and everything else about it
Thanks very much, Karen! 🙂
Very creative. Love the DSP inside and out.
Thanks so much! 🙂
Awesome card Mary! Love that designer paper and the layering is perfect! 🙂
Thank you, ma’am! 🙂
You certainly do play fast and loose with the challenge! However, I think it works. I suppose your mom enjoys her books from the comfort of her tufted leather easy chair. I know I do! (Mine is green) Perfect personalized card. Isn’t that why we make cards…so we can personalize them?? Love this one.
Yes – gotta get a little squinty, for sure! LOL! It IS tufted – just not leather! 🙂 Thanks so much, Julie – glad that you liked it! 🙂
What a fantastic book fold card!
Thank you, Carol! 🙂
Mary,
I absolutely love your card!!! What a great male birthday card, I will definitely CASE this one!
Janice
Thank you so much, Janice – have fun making it! 🙂

You got me!!! Lol
And the card is beautiful as well as right on the mark!
I know – I mean – I HAVE known you all my life! 🙂
P.S. Thanks for entering your card in the Creative Creases challenge!
Thanks for hosting the challenge! 🙂
Your book-themed card sounds like just the right design for your book-loving mom! And how perfect is it that you chose a book fold card design?! Brilliant! Those pretty leaf die cuts adhered on that ribbon are a perfect embellishment! They don’t hide too much of that pretty DSP but still add a touch of elegance! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful birthday card at Creative Creases!
Thank you very much for the so-kind words, Carrie – I really appreciate them! 🙂
Such a fun card for a book lover, Mary! I love that paper and it’s perfect for the book fold. Thank you for playing with the Creative Creases Challenge, and I hope you can join us again soon. We really appreciate your support!
