Stampin’ Up! Them Bag of Bones Sneak Peek Halloween for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Good morning, y’all!  It’s Thursday – which means it’s time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop.  We’ve got a sketch challenge to work with and I’m excited to see what everyone brings to the table.  I just know you’re going to see a ton of awesome-ness on the hop today!

I decided that since I’ve been making Christmas cards already – I ought to give a nod to Halloween, too. I mean – it DOES happen BEFORE Christmas, right?!?  And the Bag of Bones stamp set and bundled dies – plus some super-fun Them Bones DSP – and a few glowy-bits – seemed like just the right thing!  Take a look-see:

And here’s our sketch.  If you squint….you can see I DID use it for inspiration! 😉

I started by adhering a piece of the new Them Bones DSP  (available on 6 Sept) to a piece of Starry Sky cardstock to make the card front.  This paper is so fun – a couple of quick cuts and I already had a spooky moon-rise scene to start my card! 🙂

Using the dies in the Bag of Bones die set (coming 6 Sep!) – I cut out a Smoky Slate mausoleum and a Basic Gray crypt (that’s what I am calling the “inside” of the die cut).  I stamped a fun phrase from Bag of Bones in Starry Sky on the Basic Gray card cut and adhered it to the mausoleum with Liquid Glue.

I adhered the mausoleum to the card front with Liquid Glue at an angle – cuz…they do that, you know!

Using the die in the Bag of Bones set – I cut out a Pumpkin Pie dog from the Them Bones DSP (I LOVE when you can do that!!) and adhered him to the bottom of the die cut with Liquid Glue.  I added a piece of Basic Black cardstock that I’d cut with the “grass” die in the die set.

I cut out a white skeleton from the DSP using the dies – and adhered him to the card front with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The hat and boots are cut with their own little dies in the set – the hat from Cajun Craze cardstock and the boots from a piece of Cajun Craze Them Bones DSP.  I adhered them with Liquid Glue.

I fussy cut three tombstones from the Them Bones DSP – yes, I had to do it! – and adhered them to the card front.  I used Black Stampin’ Dimensionals under the top of the Pumpkin Pie stone and Liquid Glue on the bottom (so it sort of tilts out).  The middle tombstone is adhered with Liquid Glue and the final one with Black Stampin’ Dimesionals.

I cut out a skeleton kitty (there’s a die for him!) and adhered him with Black Dimensionals.

The sentiment – from Bag of Bones – is heat embossed in white on Starry Sky and then fussy cut.  I added it with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.

And then….time for some FUN!

I die cut the little bones – you get seven bones with one Bag of Bones die – and the moon and stars (you get the moon and three stars in one die!) from the soon-to-be-available Glow in the Dark 6″ x 6″ Specialty Paper – and adhered them all with Liquid Glue.

Yes – I DID say Glow in the Dark.  And…it DOES!

And – those little ghosties are from the Glow in the Dark Bats & Ghosts from the new catalog!  How fun are they?!?

For the inside, I stamped another Bag of Bones sentiment in Starry Sky on a Basic White panel. In the corner I stamped the skeleton dog in Pumpkin Pie and the skeleton in Cajun Craze.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Starry Sky mat and into the Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

One more look at those glowy bits! Can’t help it – it just makes me smile.  Just a…really skinny guy and his really skinny dog.  Playing fetch.  In a graveyard.  With a cat watching in disdain.

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Bag of Bones dog and skeleton on the front…

…and more of the Them Bones DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Fact – Halloween isn’t my fave holiday.  But…oh my gosh.  This Bag of Bones bundle with its PLETHORA of spooky images and DIES….

…is so perfectly perfect for making FUN Halloween cards.  And they’re especially good with the coordinating Them Bones DSP and – don’t forget the GLOWY bits!  Glow in the Dark 6″ x 6″ Specialty Paper AND Glow in the Dark Ghosts & Bats are just the best – and they really glow GOOD!

Love, love, love this project! So creative. I wondered what to do with the loose bones; play fetch-HA! Thanks for the detailed directions so that I can recreate it!

  6. Too cute Mary! Love those skeletons, and the wonderful glow-in-the dark! 😊

  7. Did you just talk me into buying this suite? 🙂 This card is so, so cute! Love the glow in the dark elements, too!

  8. Well, Mary, I did have to squint, but I can see that you used the sketch as inspiration. Barely. While I am not a fan of halloween, this is a really great card. Can’t say ‘cute’ cuz bones aren’t cute, and can’t say beautiful either. But it is still a fantastic card for halloween, and I might have to make one just so I can use the glow in the dark paper. Love it!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – glad you were able to suss out the challenge! The glowy bits are just the best, aren’t they?!? 🙂 Thanks, Julie! 🙂

  9. Lynne Ingram

Love the Hallowe’en card using Them Bones collection. I was hoping there was a video for it but didn’t see one. I’ll be ordering that set this week because of seeing your card. Please do another card and video it.

    • stampsnlingers

Hey Patricia – I’ll add this to my list of videos to do and try to get it done soon! Thank you so much! 🙂
