Stampin’ Up! Starry Night Sky Covered in Sunshine Sneak Peek

Good morning – its the VERY.  LAST.  DAY.  Of 2022 that is!  Yup – when you wake up tomorrow – it’ll be 2023!  Yes – I am making the assumption that you – like I – will SLEEP thru the actual transition!  If you’re NOT like me – enjoy your New Year’s Eve Party and STAY SAFE!

I made a card that is a riff on a card my friend Faith made – she used the Adorable Owls set – but…I played with the new Covered in Sunshine stamp set – which you’re going to be able to get your hands on in…six days!  Take a look-see!

Faith made a totally cool night sky – she used the Daffodil Daydream set (I did, too) to make the silver embossed stars.  I added some gold embossed “shooting” stars from Covered in Sunshine.

A couple months back, I used the scalloped die in the Basic Borders Die Set to cut out a Window Sheet cloud “template” that I used on this card (there’s even a video there on how to make the clouds!) Being a semi-smart girl – I tucked that “template” into the Storage Pocket with my Basic Borders dies!

So – I pulled it out again and used it to create my starry night sky.

Starting at the bottom of my Basic White cardstock panel, I used a Blending Brush to create “clouds” with Orchid Oasis Ink.  I did it all over the panel – leaving the center of the panel mostly clear.

When I’d covered the panel with clouds, I….covered up almost ALL the clouds – using a Blending Brush and Starry Sky ink.

If you look closely – you can see that the clouds are more defined and visible BELOW the sentiment – and the “sky” is darker and more homogeneous ABOVE the sentiment.

Have you ever flown at night – with a cloud deck underneath you and more clear skies above?  THAT is what I was going for!

Not gonna lie – I feel like I sorta nailed it! 😎😎😎

Once I had it as dark as I wanted – I let it dry.  And helped it with my Heat Tool a little.

I brushed the panel with my Embossing Buddy, then stamped the sentiment from the Covered in Sunshine set in Versamark Ink, sprinkled it with White Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool.

Full Disclosure:  look closely at the close-up photo above. You CAN see a very light smattering of white embossing powder “inside” the sentiment that didn’t come off before I heat set it.  I suspect I didn’t wait QUITE long enough for the panel to dry before I stamped the sentiment in Versamark.  But – for THIS card design – I actually like it like that – it makes it sort of….glow!   If you hate it – wait LONGER, be sure the panel is totally dry and really brush it with that Embossing Buddy before you stamp the sentiment, okay??

Using the splatters image in the Daffodil Daydream stamp set, I stamped several times above and around the sentiment with Versamark.  Then I sprinkled the “stars” with Silver Embossing Powder and heat set it.

I stamped the shooting stars images – yes, there are TWO of them! – in Versamark, sprinkled them with Gold Embossing Powder and heat set them as well.

With everything dry, I quelled the urge to do anything more – and adhered the panel to a Basic White mat and then to a Starry Sky mat, using Stampin’ Seal.  And that was it for the card front!

For the inside, I used the Stamparatus to help me stamp a second Covered in Sunshine sentiment in Starry Sky on a Basic White panel.  I added the shooting stars in Daffodil Delight.

You know – I really love these BIG SENTIMENT sets!  But – sometimes, there’s nothing IN the set that lets me decorate the inside of the card or my envelope.  And that’s irk-ifying for me. THIS stamp set, though, DOES have small images – a sun, the shooting stars and a single stylized star image! – that you CAN put to good use!!  I love it!

I used Stampin’ Seal to adhere the panel to a Starry Sky mat and into my Thick Basic White card base, popped the double-matted card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got more Daffodil Delight shooting stars on the front…

…and Starry Sky “stars” (from the Daffodil Daydream set) and Daffodil Delight shooting stars on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love this stamp set, y’all!  While you MIGHT have overlooked this little beauty in the new Jan – Apr 2023 Mini catalog, the big, fun sentiments from Covered in Sunshine – coupled with the sweet little images – are perfect for making quick and beautiful cards! Then – if you want –  you can add some extra BOOM with clouds – using a Basic Borders die cut “template”!  So cool. 😎

Finn Fan Fix

Finn had to go to his doctor yesterday for his Annual Physical.

He got a clean bill of health – including a compliment on the beauty and cleanliness of his toofs!  No – we have never had them cleaned.  Yes he IS 6 1/2.  Yes – his pearly whites are very pearly.  And..white!

So – all is good.

But – he didn’t really LOVE his visit like he usually does.  He was very good but…well.  I think this picture says it all.

To protect his privacy, I cut off the….uhm…aft end.

Let’s just say…his temperature was normal! 😳

But…how RUDE!

  1. Such an awesome card! Love the way that you created the sky! And poor Finn…physicals are awfully embarrassing!

  2. Po-o-o-r Finn. The indignity of it all! You can tell he is displeased!
This is a stunning card, and I do believe you nailed the image you wanted. I love it. Thanks for sharing your creativity. And, Happy New Year tomorrow.

Amazing card! Your inking for sky is sooooo realistic. In that same set, I want to use the stamp that mentions wildflowers with the Dainty Flowers DSP. Glad Mr. Finn got an A+ on his checkup.
