Stampin’ Up! Aspens in Mountain Air Very Best Occasions for the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge!

Good morning – again!  I’ve got a second card for you today, cuz…I was really honored to be selected as a Guest Designer over on one of my fave challenges – the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge!  So…if you were here looking for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop and the card I shared for IT – here ’tis! 🙂

The elements of the challenge worked well for a sympathy card I had in my head, so…I pulled out the Mountain Air stamp set from the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog and then used the cool Aspen Tree Dies, with a Very Best Occasions sentiment, to complete the card.  Take a look-see:

And here’s the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge #169 this week – I hope you’ll come play along with us!  I went across the Diagonal: Something Round – Blue – Sun AND Across the bottom – Tree – Water – Sun!

I started by creating my “scene” for behind the Aspen Trees die cut.

On a piece of Basic White, I used Blending Brushes to brush on Daffodil Delight ink near the middle to create the sun.   Near the bottom of the panel, I added Parakeet Party ink.  Starry Sky ink creates the lake and the sky.  Tip – keep the “intermingling” of the inks – especially the Starry Sky and Daffodil Delight! – as minimal as possible.  Or you might end up with a greenish sky! 😎

Once the backdrop was done, I used the mountain image in the Mountain Air set to stamp a range in Gray Granite a little above the middle of the card.  Bumped up against it, I added the line of trees (it has a “reflection” built into the stamp) in Shaded Spruce.  Then I added the individual tree images at the bottom – in the Parakeet Party “meadow”.  Finally – I stamped some birds in Gray Granite up in the sky.

And yes.  Yes I SHOULD have taken a picture of the finished scene BEFORE I covered it up.  Sorry! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Maybe this will help…

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Starry Sky mat.

Using the cool Aspen Trees die, I cut out the trees from a slightly larger piece of Basic White cardstock.  I used my Light Gray Granite Stampin’ Blend to accentuate the cutouts in the trees – to make them look even more Aspen-y!

Then I popped the die cut over the scene with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Kind of a LOT of Dimensionals – cuz I wanted it well supported.

I used some Stampin’ Seal to adhere a length of Sahara Sand ribbon from the Old Olive & Sahara Sand Twill Ribbon Combo Pack and a piece of Early Espresso 1/4″ Faux Suede Trim.  Then I added a simple Linen Thread bow with a Glue Dot.

On a piece of Gray Granite cardstock, I stamped the Very Best Occasions sentiment in Starry Sky and cut it out with the square-ish die in the Stitched Rectangles Die set.

I popped the sentiment over the ribbon and bow with Stampin’ Dimensionals – added a single Rustic Metallic Adhesive-backed Dot and the card front was done!

On the inside, I brushed more Parakeet Party ink in the corner of a Basic White panel, then added a couple of Shaded Spruce trees from the Mountain Air set.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Starry Sky mat and into my Gray Granite card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got some blended Parakeet Party and a stamped Shaded Spruce Mountain Air tree on the front…

…and more of each on the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  I think I mentioned when we were in Colorado that I do LOVE Aspen trees – so…this big, beautiful die from the Aspen Trees die set (available alone or as a bundle with the Perched in a Tree stamp set) was first on my list!  Very Best Occasions really DOES run the gamut of the occasions we like to send cards for – happy AND not-so-much.  Of course the image-only Mountain Air set is kind of a classic scene-setter – and is PERFECT behind the Aspen Trees cut out, don’t you think!?

I hope you like!

If you love the Aspen Trees dies – and the bundled Perched on a Tree stamp set – you might like my Winter Fun Special Bundle #1.  Take a look at that one – and ALL the bundles – cuz…they’re only available thru tomorrow!

Finn Fan Fix

The other day (pre-fire-goat-rope!) we hit Lowe’s and bought something for Finn.

Well.  For us.  BECAUSE of Finn!

Here was our “why”.

And here’s our solution!

Can you see it??

Here’s a better shot – and…it’s working! 🙂

It’s not his “preferred” barrel – but…it’ll do.

He DOES send us the furry side-eye every once in a while.  “I know that YOU did this!!”  😉

  1. Kate

Great card…probably don’t have to mention that I love mountain aspen.
    Nice solution for Finn.

  2. Your card is stunning! Perfect way to use those beautiful dies. 🙂 Poor Finn…has to drink from the second place bucket. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – second best for him!! “Poor” thing… 😉 Thank you so much, Amy! 🙂

  3. Mary, your card is amazing! The scene in the background alone, and then the trees up front! Spectacular! So glad you are out guest at Tic Tac Toe!

  4. Susan K

Beautiful card—calm, serene and pretty… perfect for any occasion and makes a wonderful sympathy card. And a bonus card for us today, plus we get a FFF on a blog hop day! Bingo! Nice fix to the stomping-flowers issue, but poor Finny—he meant no harm.

    • stampsnlingers

He didn’t, I know. But the poor flowers are still SQUISHED!! LOL! Thanks, Susan! 🙂

  5. This is just WONDERFUL! Love the background you created for this die cut. And your new stunning garden bed. :O)

  6. LOVE this card…has most of my faves-trees, mountains, water, birds. I can’t believe you didn’t take a photo of the scene BEFORE adding the Aspens! Poor Finn, he probably doesn’t understand WHY ‘you did this.’ 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

I know. He’s SUCH an abused boy!! And I KNOW!? What the heck was I thinking??! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Thanks, Julie! 🙂

  7. Silke Ledlow

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you very much, Silke – I appreciated being invited! 🙂

  8. Mary this is such a gorgeous card, with the Aspen trees over the beautiful background scene. I’d love to be looking at that scene IRL! Love your new water feature and hope Finn eventually appreciates what you did for him lol! I’m so glad you were our guest designer for tttc169, sharing your beautiful card!

    • stampsnlingers

I enjoyed it, Stef! And thanks! He loves that fountain so…we had to figure a way to save the flowers AND let him get his drink! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
