Stampin’ Up! Dear Doily, Words Can’t Express…

Happy Monday, y’all!  Hope you had a good weekend – or are still having it depending on how you (or your employer!) view the holiday-status of Martin Luther King Day!

If you were able to join me last night for my Facebook Live video, I thank you for spending part of your regular/long weekend with me! 😉  If not, but you’d like to see the replay, here is it on YouTube!

I used the new Dear Doily stamp set and bundled Doily Builder Thinlits to do a little embossing and die cutting to create this sympathy card.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

And the color scheme hails from the Hand Stamped Sentiments color challenge.

I started with a piece of Thick Whisper White card stock cut at 5″ x 10″ and scored and folded at 5″ (yes – creating a 5″ x 5″ square card!).  Then I embossed both sides in the Subtle Dynamic TIEF (that’s a run thru the Big Shot for each side).

Using the Big Shot Embossing Mats (specifically the hard white mat and the thin blue mat), I embossed a square Petal Pink panel several times with the dies from the Doily Builder Thinlits.  Then, using the Detailed Trio Punch, I rounded all four corners.

I cut a Mossy Meadow mat and rounded its corners with the punch, then adhered the embossed panel to it with Liquid Glue.

I used several Glue Dots to wind some Fresh Fig 3/8″ Mini Ruffled Ribbon loops – letting it hang off both sides.

For the doily, I cut the largest die from the Doily Builder set from a piece of Petal Pink printed vellum in the Floral Romance Specialty DSP.  I adhered my doily to the card front with Liquid Glue.

The sentiment, from Dear Doily, is stamped in Fresh Fig and cut with a Stitched Shapes Framelits circle die, then popped on with Stampin’ Dimensionals to finish off the card front.

On the inside, I used my Stamparatus to stamp a second Fresh Fig Dear Doily sentiment in the corner of a Whisper White panel.  Over that, I added a doily image in stamped-off-once Petal Pink.  Then I rounded the corners with my Detailed Trio Punch.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Mossy Meadow mat and into my prepared card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

I made a square envelope for the card from a piece of Floral Romance Specialty DSP using my Envelope Punch Board.

The beautiful double-sided paper did the work on the front AND the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  I love this stamp set!  With a single open-ended front sentiment, you can make a sympathy card, thank you/friendship or thinking of you card just by changing the inside sentiment.  And the Doily Builder Thinlits create lovely embellishments and accents – either by cutting or using the dies to emboss!  How cool is that?!  I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

I showed you guys my new stamp room – created with “found” furniture from around the house (and a couple of Ikea desks from my friend Amy!) – on the video.  And, of course, a LOT of my storage is from my fave spot – Stamp-N-Storage!  Like…my new Stamp Case shelves – that I had built to a custom length!  And that Wayne hung for me – saving me tons of precious table space!

Of course, Finn isn’t nearly so concerned with the finer points of stamp case, paper and thinlits storage as he is with…

…let’s just be sure there’s a likely spot for the dog! 🙂

  1. I’m tellin’ ya, dinner always gets in the way for me on Sunday nights! However, I’m glad I got to see your “tour”. I do have a couple of questions that I didn’t ask…what are the plastic file cases under your desk? Is that how you store cards you have created? Do you keep an inventory of what you have on hand and what you’ve mailed out to whom? It’s so nice that you have a talented husband and a dog who helps by staying out of the way 🙂

Thanks, Karen! Those are for scrap card stock pieces. But – I’m fixin’ to change to Job Ticket Holders, I think. One for each color in my storage shelf. Those files folders will travel with me… As for cards – I’ve got them in plastic sleeves ready to mail to customers or to whomever needs one – and no. I don’t keep an inventory (unless I sell one – then I mark that down!). Hope that helps! 🙂

  2. Kate

    Very nice card!
Very nice work space…which w/o a space for the Finn wouldn’t be worth siccum. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Mom! I’m loving the new room!! And so is Finn! 🙂

  3. Another pretty card and fun video! Love your new craft room. Glad that Finn has found his “spot” too. 🙂

  4. Susan K

Love the card, love that sentiment and your placement inside. And I LOVE your craft room. So impressed, Martha! Good to see you also planned a couple spaces for pet hair and the pretty pet. 🐶😀

    • stampsnlingers

Oh yes – no portion of a house is truly complete without little nooks and crannies designed to gather pet hair and dust! 🙂 Glad you like the card – and my new room! Thanks, Susan! 🙂

  5. Sorry I missed you last night. Football, you know. However, watched you this morning. Lovely card, and another good video. Your room is great. 12′ x 12′ isn’t enough, but you will soon realize that.
Be grateful you have a wonderful husband to help you with things, like hanging shelves. I have to hire that stuff done.

    • stampsnlingers

Yea – he’s a good guy. And he’s helped with packaging retired goodies, and post office runs and and and. I think 12x will work for a minute – but it’s pretty chock-a-block full! 🙂

  6. Karen L

Yippee!! You have an official work space……..what a great thing to have. I have a spare bedroom that is mostly “my space”……a little room for a trundle-daybed for guests…..but mainly “my space” for card making. LOVE IT!! I have a walk in closet behind my desk that I use for stamp storage. Would be nice to have it all at arms length but it works for me…..have a big shot area right behind & small bookcase with paper storage……really makes a difference. You will still find tweaks that you might want to incorporate after you work in the area a while. Just so glad for you…..you sound like you are excited too!

    • stampsnlingers

Hey Kathy – I really am excited. I’ve only been using it for a couple of days and last night it really kind of hit me how well it seems like it’s going to work! I have a couple more tweaks in my head – and am sure I’ll find others as I use it. But…it’s getting there! Yours sounds like you’ve really made it your own! 🙂

  7. Love your new room but you didn’t show us your great window in the tour. Is this going to be Finns only spot or has he found one yet where you will constantly trip over him I love your tutorials, they make my Sunday nights

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Judy! Sorry I missed the window! 😉 And – he’s scoping out the very best spot to be completely in the way! 🙂

  8. This is elegant and pretty! Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches this week!

  9. Jenny Engelke

Simply gorgeous, Mary! The vellum doily and velvet ribbon lend a luxurious feel to your card. I’m so glad you played along with us at Hand Stamped Sentiments!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Jenny! Appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  10. Such a pretty card I love the colours – velvet is one of my favourite materials and it looks so elegant here – thanks for joining us at HSS this week.
