Stampin’ Up! Pleasant Pheasants on Buffalo Plaid

Good morning, my peeps!  Happy weekend!  Hope you have something fun planned.  We have Oil Change planned.  Bleh.

Did the title of the post take you a-back?  It’s Buffalo CHECK, Mary – not PLAID!

Well – but it CAN be plaid!  And it can be a plaid background for the lovely Pleasant Pheasants stamp set and a perfect Thanksgiving sentiment.  Take a look-see!

My layout for this one is from the FabFriday challenge this week.

And I decided to make my own background for the card thanks to the inspiration from the TGIF Technique Challenge!

I started my plaid background by stamping the Buffalo Check image onto a Very Vanilla panel in Cajun Craze.  I used my Stamparatus to get a good, solid check image.

Then I pulled out my ruler and my Dark Mango Melody and Dark Old Olive Stampin’ Blends.  I created lines with the Mango bullet tip and the Old Olive brush tip.  Speaking of TIPS:  start and end your drawn line OFF of the card stock – that way your lines will be smooth.  Oh – and don’t stop mid-line.  Start AND stop OFF the card stock. 🙂

I decided it needed some stitches – so I added them with the bullet tip on my Dark Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blend.  Then I matted my new plaid background on Mossy Meadow for the card front.

I cut two banners – one in Very Vanilla and one in Crumb Cake – cutting the end with the Banner Triple Punch.  I embossed them both in the new Corrugated Dynamic TIEF and then stacked them and adhered them with Liquid Glue.

I punched a few leaves with the Leaf Punch – two from Mossy Meadow and two from Mango Melody. I sponged the edges of the leaves with their corresponding ink and adhered them with Liquid Glue.

The art, from the Pleasant Pheasants set, is stamped in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla.  I colored it with my Light and Dark Mango Melody, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive and Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends.  With my Stamparatus, I added the sentiment in Cajun Craze.

Then I cut it with an oval Stitched Shapes Framelits die and adhered it with Liquid Glue.

I added a True Gentleman Button with a Glue Dot then adhered a Linen Thread double-loop Billie-Bow with some Liquid Glue.  Finally, I added a Pearl Basic Jewel that I colored with my Dark Mango Melody Blend.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Pleasant Pheasants in Cajun Craze on a Very Vanilla panel.  With Soft Suede, I added the leaves image in the corner – and colored the leaves with the same Blends I’d used on the front of the card.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Mossy Meadow mat and then into my Crumb Cake card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another garland of Fall leaves on the front…

…and some more Buffalo Check “plaid” on the envelope flap!  I made some more of the plaid on a piece of Very Vanilla, adhered it to the flap and fussy cut it!

Et Voila!  Buffalo Check is the perfect background stamp!  And now you know that, with it, you can make any plaid – any time – any color!!  And the lovely Pleasant Pheasants stamp set is just right as we head into Fall and Thanksgiving.  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Finn really enjoyed the trip to the tax accountant.  I mean, a ride’s a ride – regardless of the destination!

Also – dogs don’t pay taxes (yet), so there’s really no downside for him!

Once we arrived, there were four of us in the office.

One was collecting our money.

One was having a ton of fun.

Two were…bleh.

Know who was who?

He was pretty intrigued by a tiny person with an equally tiny dog sitting right outside the door…

He was an awfully good boy – only getting up when it started to rain…

He amazes me with his personality.  He bounces for about 5 minutes and then…settles completely.

Boy, did I get lucky with this little man!

  1. I believe Finny was heaven sent AND your card is heavenly. Between you and Jenny Hall, I am going to have to give creating my own plaid a try. Glad your taxes are all taken care of. We know from where they were sent! Have a wonderfully blessed weekend.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Karen! Do try some plaid – we’ll be doing some on Sunday night! 🙂

  2. Lisa A Crosby

You have such a handsome, smart, and well behaved pup! I look forward to your beautiful projects but I love your Finn updates too. Did you have a hard time inking up your Buffalo Check background stamp? I tried and tried the other day (using my Stamparatus) and after inking and re-stamping 3 times I still didn’t have a solid image like yours. I decided it would have to do because a good portion of it would be covered by other images but it was still a little disappointing. I also tried inking it up in Versamark first and I buffed the stamp as well. Hoping to meet you in person at Onstage! P.S. Your card is beautiful and I love all the detail.

Thanks, Lisa – we’ll definitely plan to meet at OnStage! Getting close now! 🙂 I did have to stamp it a few times – and make sure I pressed all over very well. I also had to be sure that my stamp didn’t have anything on it…like…a dog hair! 🙂 Good luck – and thank you! 🙂

      • Lisa A Crosby

Thank you Mary! Maybe I am just being to picky. I’m trying to use the Buffalo check for my Onstage swaps. Maybe they will be fine after I add the rest of the design/layers.

      • stampsnlingers

Well – I hope you can figure it out – if you’re not using the Stamparatus, give that a shot. It helps! Thanks, Lisa – let me know if I can help! 🙂

  3. This is awesome Mary! Love the plaid background and your Thanksgiving sentiment is perfect with your images. Man…you guys made Finn pay the tax bill while you were having a ton of fun?? Sheesh, he’s got a rough life. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

Yes. He had to pay the Man. It’s just a fact of life, don’t you know?!? Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  4. Susan K

Love the plaid; great way to coordinate the colors of the art piece. The Billie Moan bow adds the perfect touch. (I can make those now too–thanks again for the tools and instructions at the retreat! 🤗) Glad at least one attendee had fun at the accountant’s.

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – yea. He thought it was AWESOME! You’re very welcome – I’m glad that you had fun and now have Double-Loop Bow under your belt! Thanks, Susan! 🙂

  5. Kate

Buffalo plaid it is! And perfect for this beautiful card.
I think Finn got pretty dang lucky too!

  6. Pat C

I think Finn lucked out getting you for a mom! Plus he has kitty and horse siblings! And fun farm chores! What a life for your boy!
Your card is gorgeous, love that plaid buffalo check. Looks fun and easy, and I will definitely be trying it! Love your color combo too.

    • stampsnlingers

I hope he thinks so, Pat! He seems pretty happy to me! Have fun with the plaid – we’re going to do some plaid on FB tomorrow night! Thanks so much! 🙂

  7. Elisha Smith

A PERFECT Thanksgiving card!! I love it! I must try turning my buffalo check into a plaid – what fun! Enjoy having tax time behind you! Finn is just the cutest – and a miracle all rolled into one😊

  8. Heather Heroldt

Love your plaid creation, Mary – I have to try it with the off-center accent, too – genius! I also love the two-tone corrugated banner – you really composed such a gorgeous arrangement here! Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Heather – I appreciate you stopping to leave a comment! 🙂

  9. Wow! love your Buffalo PLAID. It may have started as a check, but is now a plaid. Great background to an equally great card. And, yes, you did get a great little man there.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Julie – we’re going to play with plaid on Sunday evening! 🙂

  10. Your stepped up Buffalo Check background is the BEST I have seen! Way to go at knocking this one out of the park. The additional texture really plays off your background so nicely. Thanks for joining along at TGIF this week and for “creating your own background” with us. Smiles, Elizabeth

    • stampsnlingers

Oh thank you, Elizabeth – that’s very sweet! Appreciate you taking time to come by! 🙂

  11. Lovely fall card! Your check to plaid background is fabulous and I love hte double layered banner flag. Thanks for sharing at Fab Friday!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Amanda – appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  12. mcbride delphia

Well that is how you made the card! I knew it was not a DSP! It is a MDSP! It is so awesome! Found this one on Pinterest! TFS
