Stampin’ Up! Watts of Courage for the World Autism Day Blog Hop!

Good morning, y’all!  Today I’m fortunate to be taking part in a wonderful Blog Hop celebrating World Autism Awareness Day (which is…well…today!) 🙂

While I’m not directly affected by autism, did you know that as many as 1.5 million Americans today are believed to have some form of autism?  And this number is on the rise.  Based on statistics from the U.S. Department of Education and other governmental agencies, autism is growing at the startling rate of 10-17% per year. At this rate, estimates state that the prevalence of autism could reach 4 million Americans in the next decade.  And, autism knows no racial, ethnic, social boundaries, family income, lifestyle, or educational levels and can affect any family, and any child.

So – to show my support on World Autism Day, I made a card using the Ribbon of Courage stamp set and…Watts of Occasions!  Take a look-see:

I borrowed my layout from this week’s MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge.

I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock and, using the Marker-to-Stamp technique, stamped the heart lightbulb from the Watts of Occasions stamp set all over the panel.  Just FYI – the symbol for Autism is a puzzle piece or a blue lightbulb!  I colored the outline of the bulb with my Night of Navy Stampin’ Write Marker and the heart “filament” with my Real Red Marker.  I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp the little “light-rays” all over in Daffodil Delight.  Then I matted the panel on Daffodil Delight and Real Red.

I used Tear & Tape Adhesive to wrap a length of Night of Navy 3/8″ Corduroy Ribbon around the panel.

For the middle art piece, I again used the Marker-to-Stamp technique on a sentiment from the Ribbon of Courage stamp set.  With my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I aligned and stamped the image in Real Red and Night of Navy.  Then I double matted the panel on Daffodil Delight and Real Red and popped it over the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On a piece of scrap Whisper White, I stamped the large Ribbon of Courage ribbon image in Night of Navy and cut it with its matching die from the bundled Support Ribbon Framelits.  I used Pool Party, Real Red, Night of Navy and Daffodil Delight to color the ribbon, then popped it over the sentiment panel with Dimensionals.

I added a few Night of Navy heart shaped Enamel Shapes and the card front was done.

On the inside, I colored a second sentiment from Ribbon of Courage in Real Red and Night of Navy and stamped it on a Whisper White panel.  At the bottom, I added some hearts in Night of Navy and colored them with my Markers.

I added a Night of Navy heart Enamel Shape and double matted the panel on Daffodil Delight and Real Red, then Fast Fuse’d it into my Night of Navy card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Ribbon of Courage hearts on the front…

…and another Watts of Occasions lightbulb on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love the Ribbon of Courage stamp set – so many causes can be supported with one stamp and framelits set!  And Watts of Occasions is just too much fun!  I hope you like!

Thanks, Susan! It’s sort of a milestone for me to post something where I’m not hiding behind something or someone! 🙂

  9. Great card, Mary. Love the way you colored the ribbon and hearts.

  10. Great card, but what else would I expect? And, I hadn’t noticed your new pic until today. Next time, smile! You have a great smile. But, one thing at a time. First, no hiding, next, the smile! 🙂
Unfortunately, the person before you didn’t use the ‘next’ button, but several didn’t and some of the ones who did, it didn’t work. Pain in the you-know-what, but I have persevered and will go to every blog on this hop! Great cause. I have a step-great nephew with autism. I only see him once a year, but he is a dear young man who faces challenges daily that I can barely comprehend.
