Stampin’ Up! Picture Perfect Pop-Out Birthday

Mornin’, my peeps!  Here we are, back at work, heh?  Man – the weekend goes so fast, doesn’t it?  Hope yours was good.

If you were able to join me last night for my Facebook Live video, thanks so much for spending part of your weekend with me!  If not and you’d like to watch, here’s the YouTube replay.  Fair warning – we did do the fun-fold in the card I’m sharing with you today.  But we made a completely different card (which, OBTW, you’ll see tomorrow!).  Check it out.

The card that I gave you a sneak peek of on Sunday is a pop-and-twist fun fold card.  It uses the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set and some of the too-fun Picture Perfect Party DSP.  It’s a party in paper and card stock!  Take a look-see:

Of course, the funnest part of this card comes when you open it!

It’s a party explosion!

The layout on the front of this card was inspired by the sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches this week!

FMS329

I watched a video by Cathy Williams to see how to make this pop and twist card.  You can watch it right here, if you like!

There are two tricky parts to these cards.  The first is making the center twist mechanism – and my video shows you how to do it without a diagonal scoring plate for the Simply Scored tool (since we don’t carry it anymore).  Tip – make some 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ pieces of scrap paper (like those extra pages your printer prints – you know the ones!) and practice making some “mechanisms” before you pull out the good stuff!  🙂  And the second is getting the middle “book” in right way up!  Other than that?  Just lots of stamping and decorating! Easy peasy!

For the front, I used the Picture Perfect Party DSP, matted on Lemon Lime Twist, for the card front – and I also fussy cut a Bermuda Bay bow from another piece of the paper.

I layered three Circles Die cuts – one each in Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst and Picture Perfect Party DSP and adhered the circle to the card front with Liquid Glue.

For the sentiment, I stamped one of the Picture Perfect Birthday sentiments in Berry Burst on Whisper Whtie, fussy cut the three words and then edged each piece with my Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Write Marker.

I also cut two Lemon Lime Twist word dies with the Celebrate You Thinlits (these are available for free with a $100 purchase – but only for less than a week, now!!).  Then I adhered all the pieces of the sentiment to the card front with Liquid Glue.  And I added that fussy cut bow, too!  And that was it on the front!

On the inside, after adhering the twist mechanism into my Bermuda Bay card base, I used two more pieces of Picture Perfect Party DSP for the top and bottom panels.  I added a sentiment panel top and bottom, too.  On the bottom, I added some Lemon Lime Twist 3/8″ Mini Striped Ribbon.

The middle “book” includes candles in Berry Burst (both full strength and stamped-off-once) and Daffodil Delight, bows in Berry Burst and Daffodil Delight and birthday blowy-things in Bermuda Bay, Berry Burst and Peekaboo Peach.  Plus some Lemon Lime Twist confetti!

Each little panel is matted on Lemon Lime Twist.

Watch the video to see how to put all the elements together into this fun twist-and-pop card!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a couple more Berry Burst Picture Perfect Birthday candles and Lemon Lime Twist confetti on the front…

…and a little more Picture Perfect Party DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I do hope you’ll try this fun card fold – it’s really not very difficult!  And – once you master the mechanism and the where-to-put-adhesive-and-where-not-to-put-adhesieve…then you can decorate it any which way you want!  Which you’ll see tomorrow! Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

I think I was mistaken on Finn’s goat DNA.  I don’t think he’s half Aussie and half goat.

I think he’s only a third goat.

And the other third is…chipmunk!

I mean – the stick eating – that’s all goat.

But…pinecones?

Look at the hands.

That’s all chip-a-munk.

And he’s not just playing with it.

He.  Is.  Eating.  It.

Maybe a little Squirrel in there, too?

  1. This card is great. Sorry I couldn’t hang with you last night til the end but family needs beckoned.I’ll watch later today Yes, Finn might be a little squirly at times 🙂 Hope you week goes smoothly for you.

  2. Kate

Hmmm. Don’t know whether that is chipmunk-see-chipmunk-do or some obscure nutritional deficiency known only in Georgia. Either way, confirms the lovable goofosity.
Fun card…I sense my shaded cube syndrome kicking in.

    • I believe it’s pure goofosity! 🙂 Thanks, Mom – I had to do several practice runs before I could get it right every time! 🙂

  3. Such a cool card Mary! Thanks so much for doing the video, it is so much easier to see how it works that way. 🙂 Finn is just too goofy! Apparently he needs more fiber in his diet…and pinecones must provide that. 😉

  4. Pat Christ

This is such a fun card and that stamp set and dsp is perfect for it.
Poor Finn, if only his mama would give him some real food…😜

  5. Yes – he’s absolutely as cute as a chip-a-munk. And almost as fast! 🙂 Try just putting some DSP on the top inside panel – and maybe on a few of the “book” panels – that would make it go more quickly!! Thanks so much, Susan! 🙂

  6. Elisha

Wow! Very cool cards! Great video too – you make it look so easy! Hmmmm – maybe Finn should snack on pine cones after he visits horse stalls – you know – for pine fresh breath☺️

  7. What a totally fantastic birthday card! I love this great fold card – the recipient of this card is going to love it! Thanks for joining us at FMS this week!
