Stampin’ Up! Petal Palette & More on Barn Wooden Textures

It’s Sunday, y’all.  And…it’s Super Bowl Sunday!

I don’t really care much about the game – I’m pretty sure Tom Brady is playing and then some other team?  But – I do enjoy the commercials.  Not half-time so much, unless it’s Carrie Underwood or Brad Paisley.

Now, I know there are folks who DO like to watch the game and since it’s this evening, I’m going to cater to them (and to me – cuz…commercials!) and we’re going to skip tonight’s video.  Sorry – but…I really just think this is what we need to do!  Which means that this isn’t a sneak peek – it’s the full mugilicuddy!

I made a fun little card with the beautiful images in the Petal Palette stamp set, cut with dies in the bundled Petals & More Thinlits.  The background is made from strips of Wood Textures DSP.  Take a look-see:

Now, don’t think I came up with this idea on my own (I hardly ever do!!) – nope, I got the inspiration from this week’s photo at The Card Concept.

And the color scheme is courtesy of the Color Throwdown challenge.

I started with some strips of Wood Textures DSP – they vary in width but are right around 1/4″ give or take.  For the light blue strips, I used the Whitewashed paper in the stack and sponged them with Marina Mist ink.  I built the card front by starting with a panel of Basic Black card stock and adhering the strips with Liquid Glue.

When it was completely covered, I trimmed the panel down to my finished size and Fast Fuse’d it on a Marina Mist mat.

On a piece of Shimmery White card stock, I stamped the large flower image and the bird from the Petal Palette stamp set in Basic Gray Archival Ink.  I colored the bird with my Light and Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends.  For the flower, I used my Aqua Painter to color the flowers in Berry Burst and the leaves in Lemon Lime Twist.  I cut both images with their matching dies in the Petals & More Thinlits.

I also cut a couple of my favorite leaves die cuts in Shimmery White and adhered them to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I added some Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the large flower image and used them to wind a little Linen Thread, then popped it all over the Shimmery White leaves.

The sentiment, from Petal Palette, is stamped in Marina Mist on Shimmery White and cut with the die in the Petals & More Thinlits.

I adhered the sentiment banner with Liquid Glue and added the Petal Palette bird.  Then I added some Glitter & Clear Epoxy Shapes and a Daffodil Delight Enamel Shapes heart and the card front was done.

On the inside, I stamped the small flower from Petal Palette in Basic Gray Archival Ink on a Shimmery White panel and colored it in Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist with my Aqua Painter.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Marina Mist mat and into my Basic Gray card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

The front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope got another Petal Palette flower – this time colored with my Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst Stampin’ Write Marker – on the front…

…and I gave the envelope flap another little bird (colored with my Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Marker)!

Et Voila!  An old rustic barn Wood Textures DSP wall with a lovely spray of flowers from the Petal Palette stamp set and matching Petals & More Thinlits!  Hope you like!

  1. Wow! Love, love, love this card! What’s not to like? Birds, flowers, barn boards…the only thing missing is pines and plaid! A winner for sure! And, I plan to watch the game even though the Vikings aren’t playing, so you are definitely forgiven for no video tonight.

  2. Cindy Blaine

Beautiful card, Mary! The background is the perfect compliment to that stamp set.

  3. Kate

    Beautiful card!!!
Tom Brady??? Reason enough to skip it? Half-time? NOT. Commercials? Give me Bud.
Oh sweet Finn…then AND now. Oh sweet Mary, ditto! 😆

  4. Linda

Oh I love this card. It has a rustic beauty to it. And we all get ideas from somewhere, for me it’s often from you! Thanks for inspiring. Take good care.

  5. What an awesome card Mary! Love the background and your layered die cuts are perfect! Sweet picture of Finn too! 🙂

  6. Susan K

I’m so glad I got the Petal Palette bundle from you–I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have it. I loved getting all the suite and the Memories and More card pack too. Great value for all that. So, I’m happy you shared another gorgeous card with this set. The boards are an interesting bkgrd for the sweet bird and flowers. Go Eagles!

    • Thanks for that, Susan – so happy that you’re enjoying the bundle! Hope lots of folks take advantage of that and get this lovely set!! Have fun watching the game tonight! 🙂

  7. The way you made the card with the strips was great. Oh, that Finn face! I was happy to see that I wouldn’t have to miss you tonight. There are 3 for the Pats and one for the Eagles in this house…should be interesting. Enjoy your Sunday and the commercials. They better be darn good and funny since they are usurping your time slot 🙂

    • Sounds like a rousing evening! The commercials have been pretty disappointing the past couple of years, so I hope they step up this year!! Have fun! 🙂

  8. Kathy L

Tht is a fabulous background, and I can`t wait to try it! Good thing Finn’s on a “working” horse farm, ’cause we know what those hundred cookies can do to a body. Glad to hear you’re feeling better.

    • Thanks, Kathy! And yes – if I ate as many cookies as HE does, there wouldn’t be enough “working” to keep it off me!! 🙂

  9. Wanda Cullen

That background really makes this card stand out! Love it! Thanks for joining us at Color Throwdown!
