Stampin’ Up! Not-So-Ugly Christmas Sweaters!

Happy Saturday, y’all!  With any luck I’m toting my suitcases to the car and getting ready to check out and head to the hotel in SLC in preparation for my flight tomorrow morning!  I took two boxes to the post office yesterday to mail home to myself – they were a combined weight of 37 pounds!  And I’m still holding my breath that my two suitcases won’t exceed the weight limit!  Yikes!

You guys all know how much I’m looking forward to the Aussie-mob scene when I get home! A wake up and a flight is all that’s left to get done! 😉

My card today uses the so fun little Christmas Sweater stamp set from the Holiday Catalog.  Only thing is – I thought Christmas Sweaters were supposed to be ugly??  The sweaters in this set really aren’t.  Especially this one.  Take a look-see:

I used a couple of designs from the Be Merry DSP – the first one, matted on Cherry Cobbler – forms the card front.  Then I matted a smaller piece and adhered it with Fast Fuse.

Over that smaller piece, I used some Liquid Glue to adhere a silver Foil Snowflake.

For the art, I stamped the Santa Christmas Sweaters image in Cherry Cobbler on a piece of Whisper White card stock and matted it on Cherry Cobbler.  Using my Blender Pens to pick up the color from the lids of my ink pad, I colored the background of the sweater in Garden Green.  His hat is colored the same way in Cherry Cobbler.  For his face, I used the Ivory Stampin’ Blend!  How realistic does that look?!?  I added some Pink Pirouette Stampin’ Blend (the darker one) to his nose, and then used the Light Pool Party Blend to color his spectacles.

I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp the first part of the Christmas Sweaters sentiment in Garden Green on the bottom of the panel.  Then, with my Garden Green Stampin’ Write Marker, I added some ellipses (you know… dot dot dot) after the sentiment and popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a Clear Faceted Gem and a holly sprig Stitched Felt Embellishment (with a Glue Dot) and the card front was done!  Hint:  the berries in the Stitched Felt holly are Real Red.  So…I used my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker to color them a little and then popped some Cherry Cobbler heart Enamel shapes on the top of them!

On the inside, I used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig again to add the rest of the sentiment (including three more ellipses at the beginning) in Garden Green to a Whisper White panel.  Over that, I stamped the sweater again in Cherry Cobbler.  I inked the stamp and stamped it off three times before stamping the panel! 🙂

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Cherry Cobbler mat and into my Garden Green card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another full strength – and fully colored! – Christmas Sweater on the front (don’t forget to slide the plastic sheet from the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig into the envelope before you color with Stampin’ Blends!!)…

..and some more Be Merry DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  This is a fun set of stamps, I think, especially as we head into Christmas!  And I really love the Be Merry DSP (from the Annual Catalog) – Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green is my fave Christmas-y color combination!  Hope you like!

  1. You take everything I don’t care for, put it together and BAM…I want it! You’re right, that sweater is far from ugly!! Safe travels and you probably should wear a suit of armor when you and Finn make eye contact 🙂

    • I know! I’m going to be braced for the assault!! And I can’t wait! 🙂 Thanks much, Karen – glad that you liked the card! 🙂

  2. Okay…that sweater is cute on your card…but I hope that you’d never get an adult size and wear that around. If you did, we might have to have a Christmas sweater intervention! Love the layering and the foil accent. Yay for only one more night before heading back home! Fingers crossed for you on the suitcases too! 🙂

    • I’m going to need the crossed fingers, for sure! 🙁 And no – I probably won’t buy a wearable “art” like this!! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  3. Kate

Some Christmas sweaters ARE ugly, for sure! This one not so much! The sentiment is fun too.
I reckon if it were uncomfortable to push ones nose into a wire kennel, a smart Aussie wouldn’t. So. Must not be???
Wishing you good travel weather and a safe and comfortable drive and flight.

    • Thanks, Mom! Really looking forward to the other side of the trip! No – he wouldn’t do it if it didn’t feel good! Or – unless he’s just a little goofy. Which surely could be the case! 🙂

  4. I hope you have a safe trip hope!!!! They will be excited to see you for sure! Awesome card. Definitely not a ugly sweater!!! =)

Safe travels this weekend, Mary. I can only imagine Finn’s excitement when he sees his mama…and his mama’s excitement when she sees her Finn! 😁

  6. Karren Olaveson

    Hi Mary,

I am so happy for you that you are headed for home. I know you can’t wait to see your family. That little furry friend Finn will not know what to do, he will be so happy to see you. I would like to say thank you for all you have done to help me, Mary. You are the best. I wish you safe and trouble free travels. Take good care of yourself.

    Best wishes,
    Karren

    • Thank you so much, Karren – and it’s my pleasure! I wish we’d had a chance to meet while I was in your beautiful state! Take the very best of care! 🙂
