Stampin’ Up! Hearts Come Home to a Wonderful Life

Happy Hawwmp Day, y’all!  Hope your week is going well!  I’ll be heading home this afternoon to begin the frantic packing for my trip on Sunday!  Yikes! 😉

My card today uses a couple of stamp sets from the Holiday catalog.  I used the Wonderful Life and Hearts Come Home sets together to make a pretty little Christmas card in some more non-traditional colors.  Take a look-see:

I used the sketch at the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge to help with the layout.

The not-so-Christmas-y color scheme comes from the My Favorite Things Color Challenge.

Finally, TGIF Challenges was looking for travel-themed cards, so…

I started with a piece of the Christmas Around the World DSP in Pool Party and Fast Fuse’d it to a Night of Navy mat for the card front.

The next layer is from the Year of Cheer Specialty DSP, layered on Night of Navy and added to the card front with Liquid Glue.

For the art panel, I stamped the car from the Wonderful Life stamp set in Night of Navy on a Whisper White panel.  I added a banner in Smoky Slate and the Happy Christmas sentiment in Pool Party.  Then I lightly colored the car with my Pacific Point Watercolor Pencil.

I heat embossed the cute Christmas Tree in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and colored some “sky” with my Aqua Painter and Pool Party Ink.  Then I matted the panel on a Night of Navy panel.

For the presents, I stamped the Wonderful Life image in Smoky Slate on Whisper White and colored them in with my Powder Pink Stampin’ Write Marker, then fussy cut them.  I popped them on the roof of the car with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I adhered the art panel to the card front with Liquid Glue and then wrapped a length of Powder Pink 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon around the whole thing, securing it in the back with Scotch Tape.

For the sentiment, I went to the Hearts Come Home stamp set.  That sentiment image is a stacked image – which I didn’t want.  So, I cut a strip of Whisper White and used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to add the three parts of the sentiment one at a time.  First I inked the word “Home” with the Night of Navy Stampin’ Write Marker and stamped it.  Then I stamped the other two parts of the phrase in Pool Party, using my Pool Party Stampin’ Write Marker to ink the stamp.

I cut a banner in one end of the strip with my Paper Snips and edged it with the Powder Pink Stampin’ Write Marker.

I added the banner to the card front with Liquid Glue  and added a Clear Faceted Gem and a silver star Metallic Enamel Shape and that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I added a second sentiment from Hearts Come Home in Night of Navy on a Whisper White panel.  Across the bottom, using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I added a row of Hearts Come Home houses in Smoky Slate.  I cheated a touch on the color challenge and colored some windows with my So Saffron Stampin’ Write Marker.  Cuz…it needs to look like everyone’s come home!

I added another silver star, Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Night of Navy mat and into my Smoky Slate card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

On the front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I added some more Hearts Come Home houses in Smoky Slate and So Saffron…

…and gave the envelope flap a bit more of the Christmas Around the World DSP!

Et Voila!  Isn’t that Wonderful Life set so cute?  With the presents and the tree and all the sentiments?  And it has wedding sentiments, too!  Hearts Come Home – even without using the matching Hometown Greetings Edgelit Dies – says it all, don’t you think?  Hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix

Finn’s a drinker.  A BIG drinker!

A WATER drinker!  Sheesh…what did you think??

The other day, I’d picked up the large pet fountain to give it a good cleaning and we set a bowl of water down – just so no one might have to spend 10 minutes a little thirsty.

Apparently Leo got a little thirsty and came to have a drink.

Finn immediately felt a powerful thirst – darned near parched, I suspect – and hurried over.

There’s some concern that the danged cat might drink every.  Last.  Drop.

And that it will never – ever EVER! – be filled up again.

It is – possibly – the last water on the planet…

  1. The more I see you and Amy using this stamp set, the more I like it. When you do the color challenges and cheat a little on the inside, they don’t have to look. Isn’t it only the outside they care about? Anyway, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! If you do a video Sunday night, I will call you Wonder Woman! AND, a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do! Have a blessed day.

    • It’s a cute one, for sure!! I don’t know, Karen – I’m not sure my Gold Bracelets will make it into the suitcases…they weigh kind of a lot and I need the space for stamping goodies!! Thanks much! 😉

  2. Sweet card! Love the little gifts piled on the roof of the car…perfect with your sentiment! 🙂 And Finn is too funny, yes…I am sure that he’d go thirsty forever! Ha!

  3. Kate

You know I love the sentiment…she says innocently. And the card too.
Communal dishes. Hmmm. Just breeding scabs on noses. Can’t last.

    • Some lessons are harder than others! But – they’re really good together. Leo will smack him – but…never hurts him. Thanks, Mom – and yes. I picked up on it. 😉

  4. Too cute, Mary! Love the row houses on the inside, too!

  5. hahaha @ Finn. Made me laugh. I Love this card. It may be one of my favorites. I love the going home message.

  6. Barb

Adorable card. Mary! Love the colors and all the little touches. Perfect for that layout, too!!

Aren’t animals the funniest?!? Just like little kids…don’t want something until someone else wants it. Lol

    • Yes, they really are just like kids! I’m grateful they don’t have thumbs. And yes – the instant a cat gets in my lap or gets a treat…he’s right there!! 🙂 Thanks so much, Barb. 🙂

  7. Love this card!

  8. Susan K

I like! That’s just cute, even in those non-traditional colors (or is it especially in those non-traditional colors?). Those packages are my favorite part–super cute on top of the car like that! Finn is at least awaiting his turn, even if impatiently!

    • He’s really very sweet with them. He just would like to love on them a tad more than they’re willing to let him! 😉 Thanks so much, Susan – I love those packages. But I also think the Christmas Tree image is cool the way they left the gap in it for the side of the card!! 🙂

  9. Well. The sentiment is best….if the bodies can’t make it home, at least the heart is there.
I have to say this is not my favorite of your cards. It is VERY nice, I guess maybe I am not crazy about a pastel color scheme for Christmas? Maybe? And, that stamp set is NOT on my wish list, so maybe that is it. Anyway, you did a perfect job with the challenges, and will probably win them all!
Cats and dogs. Dogs and cats. Funny!

  10. Paula

Mary, Not sure how you keep managing the many jobs you have. The paying job seems to be getting in the way of the fun ones. But you keep on doing what you love. And those of us following you are the winners. Just so you know. If you were to miss a few things once in a while we would forgive you. That being said. Love the card!
Finn is so funny and you manage to keep us entertained with his antics.
Not sure how you will pull off the miracle but have safe travels and looking forward to keeping up with you while you are away from home.

    • I’m glad to hear that, Paula – cuz this one may be the one that makes me miss some card days! 🙁 I’m hoping not, but… I will definitely be blogging something every day, though! Thank you so much for your nice words!! 🙂

  11. Oh, I love the scene you created! Great take on the sketch!

  12. Your card just makes my heart melt–I love it inside, outside, and envelope. You made a masterpiece. I am so glad you joined our transportation themed challenge this week a TGIF! Smiles, Elizabeth

  13. Cute, cute, cute! What a great way to combine the 3 challenges! Thanks for joining in with us over at TGIF Challenges this week! We hope to see you again soon! 💖
