Stampin’ Up! Seasonal, Swirly, Sparkly Snowflakes

Happy Saturday-of-a-long-weekend, y’all!  Hope you’re fixin’ to do something fun!  We’re going to run some errands today – Finny’ll be in his kennel 🙁 – and then we’ll make it up to him on Monday!  We’re going over to Scout’s house.  I hear she’s BBQing!

No.  That’s silly – she has no thumbs.

My card today uses a couple of goodies in the Holiday Catalog – the Snowflake Sentiments and Season to Sparkle stamp sets, plus a few dies from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits – to make a pretty clean-and-simple holiday card.  Take a look-see:

The layout was inspired by this week’s sketch at the Stamp, Ink, Paper challenge.

I had such a good time making my Crumb Cake and Whisper White card the other day, that I decided to go monochromatic again.

First off, I cut a panel of Whisper White card stock and embossed it in the new Winter Wonder TIEF and Fast Fuse’d it to a Fresh Fig mat.

Using the three snowflake dies in the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, I cut three snowflakes from Dazzling Diamonds and Silver Glimmer Paper.  I used Liquid Glue to add the Dazzling Diamonds snowflakes to the card front.

Next, I wrapped a piece of Fresh Fig 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

The sentiment, from Season to Sparkle, is heat embossed in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a strip of Fresh Fig.  I snipped a banner end and then used my Handheld Stapler to adhere it to a bannerized strip of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.

I adhered the sentiment to the card front with Liquid Glue, added one of the Silver Glimmer Paper snowflakes and the card front was done.

On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Season to Sparkle in Fresh Fig on a Whisper White panel.  Then I added the other two Silver Glimmer Paper snowflakes with Liquid Glue, snipping the excess off the larger flake.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Fresh Fig mat and into my Thick Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a few Snowflake Sentiments snowflakes heat embossed in Silver on the front…

Et Voila!  Clean.  Simple.  And yet…a little bit sparkly!  Love this new Winter Wonder TIEF, don’t you?  And the snowflakes from Seasonal Layers Thinlits are gorgeous – especially in the Glimmer Papers.  The Season to Sparkle stamp set is filled with season-crossing sentiments – and wait until I show you something made with the matching Chandelier Thinlits!!  Hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix

Y’all know that Mr. Finn’s had some “knots in the floss”, if you will.

Actually – if you will or won’t.  He’s had knots.  In his fur!

I’ve finally just about gotten them gone.

Not by finger picking thru each tiny knot.  No – there were approximately 2,347,432 of them.  And his patience with finger-picking was slim.

So…I bought a pair of thinning scissors for puppy fur.

And I wasn’t afraid to use them!!

The result?  Direct your attention to the area just below the wiggler.  All the way to the ground.  See the difference?

IMG_9658

Yes, he’s more…streamlined!  And – he doesn’t pick up quite as much…stuff (at least not in his fur!!) as he used to carry around.

I kinda like the look – makes him look like he’s ready to work.

Should I do the front feathers, too?

  1. Oh, no, he only has partial pantaloons…yes, the front needs to go too; then it can grow back at the same time as winter approaches. He’s cute no matter how much fur he has BUT matted, knotty fur is NOT handsome. Good job with the grooming, Mom. Your card…tis a beautiful snowflake sighting…the kind I like. I think I am ordering the embossing folder but I have another idea to try first…the one where you take your die, a silicone mat and turn it into an embossed look. Have you done that? Have a great, long weekend.

    • I think you’re right, Karen…although I may not let it grow back. He’s no show dog – he’s a working man!! 🙂 I haven’t tried the embossing-with-your-die technique yet. But I’m gonna!! Thanks much!! 🙂

    • Karen, the snowflake card I posted on AIK the other day used that technique. And you were focused on the label. 🙂

  2. Beautiful card! Love the sparkly touches, that embossing folder is amazing! Cute picture of the trimmed up puppy too…we finally gave in and started having Ginny professionally groomed. The curly poodle hair mixed with the sort-of long Golden Retriever hair makes for LOTS of knots! 🙂

  3. Kate

Ah, knots in the floss…vexes us all! Great grooming job! I agree…do the front too. For symmetry,, doncha know. 😃. I always liked the reliable field clip for the bouvs, even if their work was pretty limited.!
And the sparkly snowfllake is lovely. Soon. Yay!!! The flatlsnders will go home and leave the few venues we have to us…maybe.

    • I’m looking forward to cool and dry. But glad that the actual possibility of snow is slim! 🙂 Thanks, Mom! Doing the front seems to be the best plan. 🙂

  4. Wendie

    Absolutely beautiful card!

  5. Pauline Silano

I agree, the front needs thinning, too. By the way, re: Finn’s snacks – we called them Kitty Snacks – I knew when she’d been into them by the kitty litter on her nose. Have a great weekend.

    • LOL – Kitty Snacks. Perfect! Yes – they look at you like butter – or…Kitty Snacks!…wouldn’t melt in their mouths. Completely innocent of all wrong-doing. With a crust of litter on their schnoozles!! Thanks much, Pauline – and you enjoy you weekend, too! 🙂

  6. beautiful card. Love the white, sparkle and Fresh Fig combo. My embossing folder should be here Tuesday. Lookong forward to using it. I acutally like snow. Just no ice, please.

    • Thanks, Julie! I think you’re going to love it! And yes – I like snow, too. When I don’t have a dog or horses or any need to go anywhere!! 🙂

  7. Pam Kucab

Love the simplicity, yet sparkle and elegance of your card. Adds just the right touch. Thank you for sharing your talent!

  8. So much sparkle, it’s gorgeous! Thanks for sharing, Mary, and thanks for joining the challenge this week at Stamp, Ink, Paper.

  9. HA!!!! i bet he is a lot cooler!!!! Daisy gets them too! sometimes I am to lazy to sit and try and brush them out so I just use scissors and cut them out. Luckily she hasnt had to many crazy ones.

    • He does get hot – so anything to help him be cooler is a good thing! He hates me trying to untangle them – so the thinning scissors was the easy way out for us!! Thanks, Tam! 🙂
