Stampin’ Up! Vintage Thankful Thoughts Thank You Card

Hey, y’all – hope you’re already up and at ’em on your Sunday!  And that the weather is good where you are!  If you’re shoveling snow this morning…I’m sorry!  We got a chill overnight – yesterday I headed out to feed the horses in a t-shirt, this morning it’s back to long sleeves and a hoodie!  But still – we don’t have the white stuff, so….it’s all good!

My card today is a sort of shabby-chic, vintage-y thank you card, using a couple of sentiments from Thankful Thoughts and the pretty flowers in the Sale-A-Bration Avant Garden set.  Take a look-see:

This one was inspired by the Card Concepts inspiration photo.

I also played along with the Stamp Ink Paper theme challenge.

My color scheme was from the Just Us Girls challenge this week, but…once again, my skillful planning led me to miss it – which I realized about 5 hours after the challenge closed.  But it was a Red/Black/Kraft challenge! 🙂

So, I started with a Cherry Cobbler mat, and I used my Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker to add “stitches” around the perimeter.

The next layer is a Very Vanilla panel.  First, I embossed it in the Lovely Lace TIEF, then I tore the edges and sponged it with Crumb Cake ink.  I concentrated on the edges, but I also lightly burnished the whole panel to distress it a little.  Then I used Liquid Glue to adhere it the Cherry Cobbler mat.

Next up?  My favoritest DSP design that we have.  Or even have had.  The sheet music from the This Christmas DSP!  Using Crumb Cake ink, I stamped all over the panel with the flowers and the splotches image from the Avant Garden stamp set.  No rhyme, no particular reason,  Just all over.  Then I tore and sponged the edges with Crumb Cake.  It’s adhered with Liquid Glue, too.

My sentiment is a triple-layer stack – cut with the Ovals Layering Framelits and the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  On the bottom is a Cherry Cobbler oval cut with a Stitched Shapes oval.  Then there’s a smaller oval – using the Ovals Framelits – cut from Copper Foil.  Finally, the sentiment oval, from Stitched Shapes, is a Very Vanilla piece.  I once again stamped some of the Avant Garden flowers in Crumb Cake, but this time I stamped them off first before stamping the card stock.

Then I stamped the sentiment from Thankful Thoughts in Basic Black Archival Ink and popped the whole thing on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

My collage-y elements started with a length of Very Vanilla 1/2″ Lace Trim, doubled over and adhered with Liquid Glue.  There’s a Falling in Love Embellishment tucked under the sentiment with a Glue Dot.  And a Classy Designer Button, too.  There’s a few loops of Copper Metallic Thread, stuck down with a Glue Dot.  And I thought one of the little Very Vanilla tassels from the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit would add a nice little touch.  Guess what it’s adhered with?

Yes.  A Glue Dot.

The heart is cut from some Copper Foil, using a Sweet & Sassy Framelit.  Then I used a ball-point pen to make some stitches around the edge.  Finally, I used my stylus on the back to round it lightly and give it a faintly “hammered” appearance.  Then I stuck it on with some Liquid Glue and a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card front was done.

On the inside, I started with a Very Vanilla panel.  In the middle, I added a Crumb Cake Avant Garden flower and some splotches (all stamped off once first), and a second Thankful Thoughts sentiment in Basic Black Archival Ink.  I added Crumb Cake “stitches” with the Crumb Cake Marker and sponged the edges, also in Crumb Cake.

vintage-thankful-thoughts-5-stamps-n-lingers
I SNAILd the panel to a Cherry Cobbler mat and into my Basic Black card base, SNAILd the card front on and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got some more Avant Garden images in Crumb Cake on the front…

…and then I added another Avant Garden flower on the envelope flap, plus another Thankful Thoughts sentiment in Basic Black Archival Ink.

Et Voila!  I’m not going to sugar-coat it, folks – I flat out love love love this card!  It’s one that, given an opportunity to make it again, I’d do everything exactly the same!  Hope you like it as much as I do, and will make one of your own!

FINN-FAN FIX….

Since it was almost 80 here on Saturday, the men spent most of it outside doing more man-work.

Well.  Mostly.

Finny helped with the lumber again.  Today I took a picture as proof.  Cuz I don’t think you believed me yesterday.

finn-moving-lumber-1
But, in the way of teenagers the world over, he soon grew a little bored with man-work.

And, since it was hot, and the pond beckoned…he went for a little splash.

I heard the splashing and actually thought it was all the horses in the pond.  When I looked out the back door, though, his tell-tale black-and-white shape could just be seen through the shrubs.  I called him (before I thought about it!) and, since he was soaking wet and covered in mud and, therefore, had no chance of coming in the house…he did his best obedience “come” at the speed of heat.  And flew up the back steps to the door.

Cuz of how he’s such a good boy and always the instant I call him!

Not.

finn-right-after-ponding-collage
This is through the screen door, so it’s a little fuzzy.  But…I think you can easily see that he brought a lot of the pond with him. 🙂

I told him he was a good boy for coming, and gave him a tiny milk bone and…told him to go back to playing and come see me when he dried off!

Silly little happy dude!

LOVE the card! The hammered heart is amazing! Well done👍 Our weather has been wonky too – low 70’s Friday – Saturday, wind chills in the teens with snow squalls off and on all day🙁 Finn is such an adorable lumberjack😉 Have a great Sunday!!

  2. I have my priorities straight today…your card is absolutely amazingly beautiful. What a work of art. I love what you did with the DSP, the sentiment background, and the copper heart melts mine. I hope to make it exactly like yours with the exception of the tassel and button…I don’t own those…yet! Then there’s Finn…adorbs!

I DO love your card as much as you do…….I think!! It really is lovely. I like the whole vintage-y look of it & I am usually not a big vintage look fan!! The copper heart really looks like it has a hammered look…..very nice. I am going to try that look. Very nice job. Plus, I always enjoy your Finn-facts.

I am so not a vintage-y person, and almost skipped your blog today (well, I was going to go right to Finn’s fan page). But you hooked me in with the music dsp and now I’m figuring out what all I have to make this beauty!
