Stampin’ Up! Sitting Here Under a Sheltering Tree for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop.  We all played with a fun sketch – and I know there are going to be a lot of great projects for you to see this week, so….be sure to check out all the offerings of the Ladies-Who-Hop!

First off – here’s the sketch….

And my card also plays along with the Global Design Project #59 – a Theme challenge.

I actually did my card this week so early that I had to warn the other ladies – I was afraid the shock of getting my link early (heck – even just on time!) would send them into some sort of seizure or…something!  I did that cuz of this little trip to Hunstville, that I’m on even as I type my post.

The boys are at home doing…boy stuff…while I’m here.  I’d be lying if I said it was awful to be away for a minute.  To be sure, I love my husband and Finn and the cats and ponies.  But.  A short little trip away – short being the operative requirement! – is never amiss.  I arrived in decent time, am at a nice hotel, had my favored Vietnamese for dinner (will probably have it tomorrow night, too – yum!), I’m watching one of my fave movies (The Proposal, with hottie Ryan Reynolds and the ever gorgeous and funny Sandra Bullock.  And Betty White!) and typing a little something to my friends.  And I’ll be back home on Friday!  Yup.  What’s not to love?! 🙂

So – the card I got done so early is a Sympathy Card that I made for my friend to give to a lady with two dogs.  She asked for the Sitting Here bench, a yellow lab, and a scruffy little black and brown dog.  So…I pulled out Sitting Here, Sheltering Tree, Bella & Friends, and the Better Together stamp set for the sentiment.  Take a look-see:

I started by adding the Sheltering Trees to a Very Vanilla panel.  I stamped the tree trunks in Soft Suede, then used the Baby Wipe technique to add the leaves.  Onto my Baby Wipe, I dropped lots of drops of Old Olive, Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry ink from my refills.  Then the Baby Wipe became my “ink pad”.  I stamped the leaves twice on each tree.  At first I was afraid the colors were a bit muddy – but then I looked outside and saw….those exact leaves…in those exact colors…on the trees.  So I went with it!

I added a grass swath in Old Olive under the trees – even though I knew it would get mostly covered by the rest of the images.

I made a “frame” around the panel with my Simply Scored board – adding two scored lines all the way around.  Then I added the sentiment from Sitting Here in Early Espresso at the bottom of the panel.

To make my images, I stamped them all on Very Vanilla, with the intent to fussy cut them.  First I stamped the sleeping dog from Sitting Here in Soft Suede and colored him with Delightful Dijon, using the Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.  Then I laid a sticky note mask over the dog and stamped the basket in Soft Suede.  It, too, was colored with the Clear Wink brush, using Crumb Cake Ink.  Then I fussy cut the whole thing.

Bella – I used the image with Bella nose-to-nose with the turtle (but the turtle lost out – next time!) – is stamped in Soft Suede and colored with a combination of Crumb Cake and Early Espresso (I had a photo of the lady’s second dog, so I tried to color Bella as close as I could).  Once he was all colored up – I fussy cut him as well.

The bench, stamped in Soft Suede and colored with Crumb Cake and Cajun Craze for the cushion, and then fussy cut, was the final piece.  Well – except for a couple of pillows that I stamped in Soft Suede and colored with a few Stampin’ Write Markers.  I also rounded them up a bit with my stylus.

Once everything was cut out, I started building the scene.  I adhered Bella first with Liquid Glue, then the bench.  Over that, I popped the sleeping pup with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Lastly, I added the pillows, also with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I SNAILd the whole thing to a Crushed Curry mat and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped the sentiment from Better Together in Early Espresso on a Very Vanilla panel.  I repeated the double scored lines and then stamped the flower pot from Sitting Here in the corner in Soft Suede.  I colored the flowers and leaves with various Stampin’ Write Markers.

I SNAILd the panel to a Crushed Curry mat and into my Cajun Craze card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Medium Very Vanilla Envelope got my non-SU! lab stamp in Soft Suede, colored with Delightful Dijon.  I also added a second image of Bella in Soft Suede, and tried to repeat the coloring I’d used on the inside…

…and on the envelope flap I added the Sitting Here flower pot, coloring it the same way that I did the one on the inside of the card.

Et Voila!  I like this little scene of the dogs with the Sitting Here bench under the fall-shrouded Sheltering Trees.  I hope the recipient recognizes the attempt to portray her dogs! And – I hope you like! 🙂
