Stampin’ Up! One Big Meaning Falling Leaves

Good morning, ya’ll – it’s Friday!  And – even though it’s about a 1000 degrees while I type this on Thursday night – I have hope that when you’re reading this the “cold” front will have moved thru and it’ll be pretending to be Fall!  The weatherman said it was going to happen, so….you know it will! 😉

Before we get going…wanted to remind you about my Ordering Special that’s going on for a few more days…don’t miss a great chance to stock up for the Holiday mailing frenzy!

Okay.  With that out of the way, let’s talk about Finn for half a second.  He’s been growing – I swear he’s bigger than he was two days ago! – and learning.  And chasing the cats – he really just wants to see them but his speed-of-heat galloping is more than they can stand still for!.  And trying to chew any and everything he can find.  And playing ball – and frisbee – and bumper (y’all – I have a new puppy.  Buy stock in PetSmart.  Trust me on this!).  And riding in the golf cart – he’s a farm dog already!

….and being “turtled” by his dad – this is a good thing to do with puppies, it helps them learn to relax and teaches submission.

wayne-and-finn

He’s gonna be too big to do this in about a minute, huh? 🙂  You can’t hardly even tell that his dad doesn’t like him, can you?!? 😉

And – he’s been cute.  Just ridiculously, overwhelmingly, goofy-ly cute.  Just when I think I’ve seen all his cute things, he’ll do something new.  Like…

goofy-finn

No – he’s not chewing the kennel bars (at least not right at this exact moment!).  He’s resting.  By resting his top teeth and nose on the bars.  Goofy goofy little dog!  This is his “day” crate – where we put him so we can have dinner – I can make a card, or do my “real” work.  Otherwise…it’s chaos.  His “night” crate is about 4 times bigger.  And is in the bedroom at the end of the bed.  I have no intention of spoiling him.  Nothing worse than a spoiled dog.

PetSmart, people.  Pet.  Smart. 🙂

So – my card for today has some recycled elements.  Remember this card from the other day?

That’s right – from the October Paper Pumpkin.  Well, the leaves that I punched out to make the windows….I kept them.  Pack-rat, much, Mary?  I mean, heck – there are 24 of them.  And they’re pretty.  So for today, I used them and added a sentiment from One Big Meaning, and a little more color with the Touches of Texture stamp set.  Take a look-see:

I used a sketch challenge from CAS(E) This Sketch – #195   – to be exact, for the design.

cts-195-sketch

And my color palette came courtesy of Pals Paper Arts challenge #323:

ppa-323-sketch

Since all my leaves were already sitting in a tidy little pile – don’t laugh, I have a few tidy places around! – this went together pretty quickly.

For each of my leaves, I used a sponge with Emerald Envy and one with Tangerine Tango.  First I stippled them lightly with each color – stipple means to sort of tap with the sponge (like you do in stenciling).  Then I used the Tangerine Tango sponge to sponge all the edges.  I brushed each of the leaves with my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to give them some sheen, and then rounded them with my stylus.  Some I rounded from the back and some from the front.

On a Very Vanilla panel, I used the large dots image in Touches of Texture.  I stamped once with Tangerine Tango and then again without re-inking.  Then I repeated that with Emerald Envy.

Using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I stamped the large sentiment from One Big Meaning in Emerald Envy.

In a bit of a departure from my usual process, I SNAILd the panel to a Tangerine Tango mat and then onto my Tip Top Taupe card base.  I wanted to be able to add the leaves and have them sort of “falling” off the edge of the card front onto the card base.

I arranged the leaves and then used  Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere some and Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere some of the others.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I used a Very Vanilla panel matted on Tangerine Tango.  I colored up another of my leaves and adhered it in the corner with Liquid Glue.

I SNAIL it into the card base and the card was done! 🙂

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got more of the Touches of Texture dots in Tangerine Tango and Emerald Envy on the front, as well as another leaf (I have twenty-four of them – I can be generous!)…

…and I repeated that on the envelope flap as well.

Et Voila!  Recycling – it’s not just for aluminum cans and paper, folks!  If you’re a Paper Pumpkin subscriber and you have this October kit – hang on to the leaves – you never know what ideas might come your way!  If you’re not – try the Leaflets Framelits.  Cut them from Very Vanilla and stipple ’em up!  Hope you like! 🙂

  1. Oh, cool use for those leaves from the Paper Pumpkin Kit! Now I need to go pull mine out of my recycling scraps and use them. 🙂 That puppy is just too cute. Love the picture of him with his little nose stuck through the kennel. And…ahem, I have no idea what you’re talking about with needing to buy stock in PetsMart or spoiling a dog. 😉

  2. Mom

    Love the fally card.
Sorry it’s so stinkin’ hot. Have had heat on all week…off and on… 😃
Finn is wonderful. He will be a big dog before I see him, and maybe, before dinner! He will keep the kitties svelte! If they only knew he just wants ’em all in one place, doncha know!

    • Well, the weatherman was right – even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut! – Fall came in overnight. Blustery and cool this morning. Thanks, Mom! 🙂

  3. Elisha

Beautiful card! Love it! And I love the photos of Finn:-). I had not heard of turtling – good to know – not that I plan on getting a puppy – but ya never know:-)

    • It’s also a good test when you’re looking for a pup – if he relaxes into it easily, he’s likely to be a calm and quiet boy when he’s older (it’s a test they used for therapy/service dogs). Then keep doing it as he grows! Thanks much, Elisha! 🙂

  4. Karen L.

Great use of the extra leaves!! I don’t like to throw anything away as well……..someday I will have to go thru my pile of scraps……..you can only have so many little itty bitty scraps!! Great name….Finn. I am looking forward to seeing a “turtling” procedure in a couple months!!

  5. This is fabulous! I love the way you used the PP leaves. Thank you for the heads up! I haven’t opened mine yet. Thanks for joining the Pals Paper Arts challenge this week.

  6. Great card! Love how you interpreted the challenge!!!

  7. Ellie Peckler

What a lovely card, Mary. I will have to try those three colors together. And I laughed out loud when I saw Finn in his crate. I love all things goofy! – Ellie

Your Finn is like my Finn and yes, my Finn is an Aussie also. I recently adopted a Jack Russell whose name is also Fin (but with only one “n”). They accompany my other JR, Daisy who is 19 and her canary, Dame Joan who sings and sings and sings. I am a farm vet, so am enjoying your Finn’s antics.

Anyways, love your card as usual.

Hugs, Tail Wags and Tweets: Mal (girl despite spelling); Daisy, Dame Joan, Finn and Fin – Melbourne, Australia

    • Happy to “meet” you, Mal! As a farm owner with horses I’m grateful to folk like yourself who help us to take care of them! You’ve got a lot of Fin(n)’s! 🙂 And a crazy canary. Sounds like a wonderful life. Thanks so much for taking the time to share with me! And thanks for the kind words about my card! 🙂

  9. Yup! I hoarded, I mean saved mine too! Thanks for the idea! I just may have to CASE this one!

    • I know! They were just so cute when I punched them out – couldn’t bring myself to toss them! Thanks much, Cheryl – and happy CASEing! 🙂

  10. Great use of your Paper Pumpkin remnants! I saved mine as well so you have inspired me. Love your diary of your puppy. They are a lot of work and bring so much joy to our lives. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing your creativity with the Pals this week.

  11. This is so pretty! Wonderful take on the sketch!

  12. Wow, Mary, this card is fabulous!! Thanks for the details about how you made the leaves, they are so realistic looking, and I love the way you curled them forward and back. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us this week at Pals Paper Arts!

  13. Love your card, Mary and the creative use of your leftovers! Perfect blend of sketch and color! Thanks so much for including the PPA color challenge in your stamping fun this week!

  14. Love your leaves Mary. What a great alternate Paper Pumpkin Card. Thank you so much for playing PPA this week!
