Stampin’ Up! Joseph’s Coat Flourishing Phrases Note

Happy Hawwmp Day, y’all!  I hope your week is going well, the weather is fine and your families are safe and sound!

Yesterday was a landmark day here at Raining Leaf Farm.  I formally told the girls that they were done with their grazing muzzles for 2016! 🙂

There was much chuckling and lip-flopping and licking.  And a decided bounce to their step as they headed to the pasture to begin gorging on (hopefully!) dying-off grass.  They hurried a bit – I’m sure in an effort to put as much distance between me and them – in case I realized I’d made an error and tried to get them back.  There were several furtive glances back over their fuzzy shoulders to be sure I wasn’t hustling after them! 🙂

I feel a little bad for them – they’ve worn the muzzles for quite a while this year, and I know they were completely over them….  But…they’re a lot better than the alternatives, I promise.  Unfortunately, they don’t care about my explanations and professions of love!  They just hate the muzzles! 🙂

So, with happy and very full ponies taken care of, let’s get to the card for today.  Last week, our friend and former upline (before she moved back to the frozen tundra of Canada!), Sandi MacIver, did a card using the Joseph’s Coat technique.  You can check it out right here.  I thought it was really cool, so I wanted to give it a shot.  I did mine with the Flourishing Phrases stamp set, and the bundled Flourish Thinlits.  Take a look-see:

I played along with two challenges with this one. The first was for the design of the card  – RetroSketches Challenge #235:

And the second was from Stamp Ink Paper – their Challenge #69:

I followed Sandi’s instructions for making my Joseph’s Coat card front.  On Whisper White card stock, I sponged – heavily! – Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Old Olive ink.  And, for once in my card making career, I remembered to take a picture of how the card panel looked….

I let it dry completely – even helped it along a bit with my heat tool – and then rubbed it with my Embossing Buddy.  Then I inked up the large flourish image in Flourishing Phrases with Versamark ink, and stamped it several times all over the panel.  I sprinkled it with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.

When it was cool, I inked the stink out of it with Early Espresso, using a brayer.  I really covered it well.  Then I used my paper towel and wiped the ink off of the embossed areas!  Done!

josephs-coat-flourishing-phrases-1-stamps-n-lingersI SNAILd it to a Cajun Craze mat and got to work on the sentiment banner.  I SNAILd a piece of Crushed Curry to a Cajun Craze mat and then used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to align and stamp the sentiment from Flourishing Phrases in Cajun Craze ink.  Then I SNAILd the whole thing to the card front.

My embellishment is a couple of cut outs using the Flourish Thinlits.  I cut a large medallion from Pumpkin Pie card stock and two smaller ones in Gold Foil.  I also cut a couple of Old Olive leaves.  Then I piled it all up and adhered it in place with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

To finish it off, I used a Classy Designer Button, adhered with a Glue Dot.  Over that, I tied a double bow with Gold Baker’s Twine and adhered it with another Glue Dot.  And that was it for the card front! 🙂

On the inside. I started with a Very Vanilla panel, matted on Cajun Craze.  Then I cut a little flourish from Pumpkin Pie card stock with a Flourish Thinlit die and adhered it in the corner with Liquid Glue.

I SNAILd it into my Pumpkin Pie card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

For my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope. I added another Pumpkin Pie flourish on the front…

…and I decorated the flap with the large flourish image from Flourishing Phrases.  I used sponges to color the stamp with Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Old Olive ink, then I stamped it directly on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Joseph’s coat of many colors!  This is a fun and easy technique that I hope you’ll try – but you should plan to get inky!  I love it, though – the colors are so vibrant popping thru the Early Espresso.  Hope you like!
