Stampin’ Up! Sneak Peek – Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween!

Good morning, y’all – it’s Tuesday and I have a confession to make.  This may come as a shocker.

I sometimes overthink my cards.

Yes – it’s true.  I especially do this when I’ve spent the day doing all sorts of things that have nothing to do with making cards.  Today – well, Monday – I moved furniture around in my living room.  And laundered the dog-bed-turned-cat-bed.  And vacuumed.  And set up another table to make a photo-booth area.  And talked on the phone with work.  And with Wayne.  Reset the clocks on the cat feeders.  Scrubbed spots on the carpet.

The end result of all this spinning was that I started thinking about a card for today – Tuesday – at 5:30.  That’s pretty late for me.  The lateness just makes me hurry and make mistakes.  And – overthink every little piece. 😉

I did have a sketch to work from, so that helped.  And I did know I wanted to do a non-Christmas card.  I figured Fall or Halloween.  So I pulled out the new Jar of Haunts stamp set – which coordinates so nicely with the Everyday Jars Framelits!

Jar of Cheer and Haunts - Stamps-N-Lingers
There are two stamp sets in the new 2016 Holiday Catalog that work wth Everyday Jars – cool, huh? 🙂

So – I used Jar of Haunts and some Halloween Nights DSP, and this is what I came up with.  Take a look-see:

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I mentioned I had a sketch to help me out – it’s this week’s Mojo Monday sketch #462:

MM 462 Sketch
I started by making my Jar of Haunts central art piece.  I stamped my ghoul-in-a-jar on a piece of Whisper White card stock, in Smoky Slate ink.  Then I used my Blender Pens to color him in.  I decided he was probably a Pumpkin Pie colored little ghoul – hiding in the jar from the spiders that are coming down all around him.  Once I had him colored, I switched over to more Smoky Slate, and used my Blender Pens to shade his mummy-trappings….

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Then I stamped the Jar of Haunts sentiment in Basic Black Archival ink right smack on top of him.  I fussy cut him and used the Everyday Jars framelit to cut out a piece of Basic Gray card stock.  I adhered the ghoul-in-a-jar to the gray jar, offsetting it just a little – more like a shadow than a mat.

For my card front, I used a piece of Cajun Craze card stock that I ran thru the Big Shot in my Woodland TIEF.  Then I stamped a whole bunch of little Jar of Haunts spiders in Basic Black Archival Ink kind of all over, and used my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to add webs.

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I SNAILd the card front to a Basic Gray mat.  For the center element of the sketch, I dithered and hemmed and hawed (a by-product of overthinking) until I finally hit on the idea of making more mummy-trappings!  I cut a bunch of 1/4″ wide strips of Whisper White card stock and adhered them across the card front with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  Then I wrapped them around the card front and secured them all in the back with scotch tape.  To make them look more like cloth – I used my Blender Pen and more Smoky Slate ink to shade them.

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
The two center panels are pieces of Halloween Nights DSP, matted on Basic Gray.  I popped the dotted panel on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the spider web square with Liquid Glue (and one Dimensional down in the bottom right corner!).  Then I added the shadowed-ghoul over the whole thing.  To finish it off, I added a silver star from the Metallics Enamel Shapes.

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the inside, I started with a panel of Whisper White and added a Basic Gray-matted strip of the spider-web Halloween Nights DSP.  Then I stamped a few more Basic Black Archival Ink spiders from Jar of Haunts.  And added one more metallic silver star for good measure.

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I added some webs with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker and SNAILd the panel onto a Basic Gray mat.  I SNAILd it into a Basic Black card base (this is a very Basic card, apparently!), popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I repeated the Jar of Haunts Pumpkin Pie ghoul-in-a-jar and a couple of spiders on the front of my Medium Whisper White Envelope…

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and added an envelope flap covered with Halloween Nights DSP (and a few more spiders – there’s one hiding under the flap for the recipient to find!).  Hmmm.  Well – you’ll have to take my word on the spiders – appears I cut it off when I took the picture.  Yup – great day!

Jar of Haunts Happy Halloween 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  Not real sure how this little guy got stuck in a jar, but I’m kind of glad he did, cuz it sure makes for a cute image, yes?  Hope you like!
