Mornin’, y’all – welcome to another Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Blog Hop. We’re doing a Theme Hop and today is for Birthdays! All of us will have a very different idea of what makes a birthday card, I’m sure, so I hope you’ll take the time to check them all out when you’re done here! 🙂
I’ve got a bit of a bird theme going on – maybe it’s Duck Duck’s influence. She’s kind of a big deal, don’t you know?! I didn’t use any more goose images, though – instead I went to the new – and pretty! – Best Birds stamp set, with it’s matching Thinlits, Birds & Blooms (which I got as a bundle and so saved 10%!). Add in some Thoughtful Banners and Pop of Pink DSP and this is what I came up with! Take a look-see:
This fun layout came from the clever folk at TGIF Challenges. Check out challenge #63!
The best part about using Thinlits and Framelits and Punches is….you get a lot of bang for just a little time and effort. And that’s definitely true for this card. Truly the hardest part was…picking which Pop of Pink DSP design to use and which way to face all the birds! I spent a too-long amount of time trying to use 5 or 6 different designs – putting all the birds facing one way or the other – having one be facing opposite the other – having every other one facing a different direction….yada yada yada.
I finally defaulted to the K.I.S.S. principle and faced them all the same way and used the same pattern of the DSP for all the birds. I came to that miraculous breakthru when it occured to me to cut one of the birds in GOLD! To coordinate with the Gold Pop of Pink DSP that I was planning for the center panel. Eureka!
Also….duh! 😉
So here we go. The large card front is a piece of Whisper White card stock that I ran thru the Big Shot in my new Petal Burst TIEF (I just love this one!) and then matted to a Melon Mambo panel. The center is the aforementioned Pop of Pink DSP – also matted on Melon Mambo – and SNAILd to the card front.
For the panel that my birdies are mounted on – I ran that piece of Whisper White thru in the new Seaside TIEF – and matted it on Melon Mambo.
I wrapped a length of new Melon Mambo 1/8″ Stitched Ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with scotch tape, and then popped it over the Petal Burst and Pop of Pink panels with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I used my new Bow Easy to make a little bow with the Melon Mambo 1/8″ Stitched Ribbon and adhered it with a Glue Dot.
My birds are all cut with the Birds & Blooms Thinlits – 5 from Pop of Pink DSP and one from Gold Foil. The DSP birds are stuck down with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. The Gold Bird – needs to be capitalized cuz it’s gold and therefore important! – is popped on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I used the Thoughtful Banners bundle – stamp set and the Duet Banner Punch – to make my front sentiment. I stamped the banner outline in Basic Black Archival Ink and then Oh, Happy Day in Melon Mambo on Whisper White. Then I punched it with the Duet Banner Punch. I fussy cut right around the outline, so that when I punched a piece of Melon Mambo card stock, it would be a good mat for the banner. I SNAILd them together and then to the card with a little Liquid Glue.
On the inside, I used the sentiment in Best Birds, stamping it in Melon Mambo on a Whisper White panel. Then I used a little more of the Pop Of Pink DSP and Melon Mambo card stock to add a strip across the bottom. I SNAILd the whole thing on Melon Mambo and into my Basic Black card base.
I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!
For my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I stamped a bunch of the little heart image from Tin of Cards (the original Tin of Cards – not the new Designer Tin of Cards), in Melon Mambo and Basic Gray Archival Ink…
…and then I added more of the Pop of Pink DSP for a custom envelope flap.
Et voila! A whole bevy of little birdies to wish Happy Birthday to someone special! Hope you like!

Cute little bird- love the way the embossing has given the bird a much different look. Duck duck will be jealous of the social golden bird! He really stands out!
She’ll likely be wanting a tiara very soon! Thanks, Beth! 🙂
That’s awesome Mary! I think that Duck Duck would be so proud to see herself (or is it himself??) all decked out in gold. 😉 Fantastic design, beautiful card! 🙂
Thanks much, Amy! 🙂
