Stampin’ Up! Don’t Swirly….Bee Punny for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop!  I spent a lot of time working on the title of my post – so, when you say it, kind of hum the “Don’t worry….be happy” tune, okay? 🙂

All us Happy Stampers Hoppers worked from a color challenge this week.

Interesting color combo, huh?  The card I ended up with kind of …..evolved.  I did not have that instant “oh, this is what I should do with this challenge” revelation that I mentioned in a past post.  I just sort of….picked a stamp set – Pun Intended.  Then I decided I wanted to use the long, wavy die cut from the new Swirly Scribbles Thinlits.  And I just….started cutting those from Sahara Sand and Mint Macaron card stock and laying them on my grid paper to see what I could come up with.  Next thing I knew – I had my ah-ha moment and….take a look-see:

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I’d seen a card come thru my Inbox that made bees from the Pun Intended stamp set, using a double layer – one of card stock and one of vellum – and I’d wanted to try that.  So I actually started by making my bees.

I stamped 3 of the images with Versamark on a piece of Whisper White card stock, sprinkled them with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated them up.  I repeated that on a piece of Vellum card stock.  Then I cut them all out.  On the card stock bees, I just cut the body and the head – no antennae or wings.  The Vellum bees I cut out completely – including the antennae (but sort of roughly)!

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the card stock bodies over the Vellum bees.  Once it was dry, I colored the bodies with my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker and set them aside to await my bidding.

The card front is a Whisper White panel that I randomly stamped in Crushed Curry with the splatters image from the Swirly Bird stamp set.  Then I used the long, wavy die in Swirly Scribbles Thinlits and cut two pieces in Sahara Sand and one in Mint Macaron.  I adhered those over the speckled Whisper White panel and snipped off the excess on both ends.  The Mint Macaron leaves are from the leaf die in the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits – I cut them, stamped the vein image from Swirly Bird in Mint Macaron and stuck them on with Liquid Glue.

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers
The stem of the large sentiment flower is actually one of the pieces that was left-over from making my die cuts – I just adhered it with Liquid Glue.  The flower itself is punched with the Pansy Punch (not retiring!!) – I cut one from a piece of Crushed Curry paper in the Regals DSP Stack, and one from Whisper White.  I stamped the Pun Intended sentiment in Mint Macaron onto the white version – and then hand-drew some little lines with my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker.  A little rolling with my bone folder prepped them for their role as a “real” flower – then I adhered them to the card front.

When my ah-ha moment hit me, I got a picture in my head of my pasture.  When we haven’t done a great job bush-hogging and the “wildflowers” (that’s fancy-talk for weeds!) have sort of run amok.  They have lots and lots of little white and yellow flowers and they’re usually being frequented by lots and lots of bees!  So I decided to re-create that image.

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I punched a bunch of little Crushed Curry and Whisper White flowers with my Itty Bitty Punch Pack (retiring) flower punch, rolled them with the end of a pen and stuck them all over the “stems” with Liquid Glue.  I popped my three bees on with Stampin Dimensionals.

I SNAILd the panel to a mat of Mint Macaron, added a little bling with a Rhinestone Basic Jewel in each flower and brushed all the bee-wings with my Clear Wink of Stella….

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 9 - Stamps-N-Lingers
… and the card front was ready to go!

On the inside, I heat embossed the bee with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder in the corner of a Whisper White panel and colored him with my Crushed Curry Marker.  Then I surrounded him with Crushed Curry flowers and Mint Macaron leaves – both from the Swirly Bird stamp set.  I finished it all off by brushing his wings with Clear Wink of Stella and coloring the flower centers with the Mint Macaron Stampin’ Write Marker.

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I SNAILd it to a Mint Macaron mat and into my Sahara Sand card base, then I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
On the front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I repeated the bee and flowers.  I stamped the bee in Basic Black Archival Ink instead of heat embossing him.  He also got Clear Wink of Stella wings….

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and I used a piece of Mint Macaron paper from the 2015-2017 In Color DSP stack, cut with the Envelope Liner Framelit, to finish off the envelope.

Swirly Scribbles Pun Intended 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  I am ridiculously tickled with this card – I can practically feel the sun and hear the bizzzzzzzzzzzzyyy bees hard at work doing bee things – it turned out exactly as I’d figured it should once I finally got a picture in my head!  I will totally be making more card stock and Vellum bees in the future and hope that you will, too.  I love this little image! 🙂
