Stampin’ Up! Birthday Blooms for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2

Good morning, y’all – it’s Thursday and that means it’s Happy Stampers Blog Hop Day!  Whether you came from Shelagh’s blog or direct – I hope that you’ll make your way thru all the Blog Hoppin’ Ladies today!

Today was a bit hectic – besides working, it was grocery day, post office day, organize-the-stamping-area-day….oh, and make a card for the Blog Hop (the fun part of the day!). 🙂

I decided it was time to make a birthday card – a person can’t ever have too many of those waiting in the wings, now can they?  And I’ve been a bit remiss in replenishing my stock – been a bit stuck on Thank You and the odd Hey-Congrats-on-Getting-Engaged cards!  So, I tagged the beautiful Birthday Blossoms set from the Annual Catalog and made a mono-chromatic card featuring the gorgeous Wisteria Wonder.  And – this card even uses the Pansy Punch and the Bitty Butterfly punch – both of which are Weekly Deals right now!  Take a look-see:

Our challenge this week was a Sketch….

…which you can see I flipped up on its short side!

I started by SNAILing a piece of the Wisteria Wonder paper from the Subtles Backgrounds DSP stack to a Thick Whisper White card base.  Then I build the rest of the cake layers.

The first layer I put down was two strips of the new Metallics Glitter Tape (Sale-A-Bration).  I used the White tape (you get White, Silver and Gold in the pack) and laid it down so that about a quarter inch would show on either side of my center panel.  It’s pretty cool – it adds some sparkle – but you can definitely see the pattern of the background paper thru it.  And it’s really thin – so it doesn’t add any significant weight or thickness to your cards!

Then, I ran a panel of Whisper White thru the Big Shot encased in my Brick Wall TIEF.  Not a lot of it shows after the card is all put together, but the extra texture definitely registers!  I SNAILd that to a Wisteria Wonder mat and then SNAILd it to the card front – over the Glitter Tape.

The central art piece is another panel of Whisper White, that I stamped several times in Wisteria Wonder, using the oh-so-pretty blossom image in Birthday Blossoms.  Just kind of randomly…..  Then I SNAILd that to its own Wisteria Wonder mat, and popped it over the Brick Wall embossed panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals!

For the sentiment circle, I cut a 2 3/8″ circle out of Whisper White with my Circles Collection Framelits.  The sentiment, from Birthday Blossoms, I inked in Versamark and stamped onto the white circle, then heat embossed it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Then I SNAILd that circle to a 2 1/2″ Wisteria Wonder circle that I’d cut with my 2 1/2″ Circle Punch.  I adhered that to the card using a Stampin’ Dimensional on the bottom of the circle and SNAIL across the top and middle.

The flower blossom is the large flower in Birthday Blossoms – I stamped it twice in Wisteria Wonder on Whisper White, and then punched it out with the matching Pansy Punch (yep – you can get this this week for 25% off!).  I curled the petals with my bone folder and used some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the two flowers together.  Then I painted the petals of the top flower with my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

The center of the flower is made up of three Itty Bitty Accent Punch pack flowers – one of Whisper White and two that I punched from the White Metallics Glitter Tape.  The top tape flower I colored with my Wisteria Wonder Stampin’ Write Marker.  I layers them all together and stuck them in the center of the flower with a little more Liquid Glue.  And then I added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel!

I used some Glue Dots and stuck them near the top of the sentiment circle – then used them to secure several loops of Silver Metallic Thread (have you guys figured out that this is one of my very favorite embellishments?  I love this Metallic Thread, even though it can be persnickety to work with!).  Then I cut a short length of Wisteria Wonder 1/2″ Seam Binding Ribbon, which I stuck over the thread.  Finally, I adhered the flower with a little more Liquid Glue.

The final touch is the Bitty Butterfly.  I stuck a short length of the White Metallics Glitter Tape to a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Then I punched it out with the Bitty Butterfly punch (Weekly Deal!), colored it with my Wisteria Wonder marker, and used a Glue Dot to adhere it to the card.

I added a line of Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the butterfly and the sentiment circle and that did it for the card front.

On the inside, I stamped the Birthday Blossoms flowers in Wisteria Wonder onto a Whisper White panel.  Over that I laid a length the Wisteria Wonder seam binding ribbon, securing it in the back with scotch tape.  Using a second short length of the seam binding, I tied it around the first ribbon, pulling it snug and creating a faux bow.  I SNAILd the panel to a Wisteria Wonder mat and into my Whisper White card base and the card was done!

For the envelope, I stamped one more spray of the Birthday Blossom flowers in Wisteria Wonder on a Medium Whisper White Envelope…

…and then added a liner with another piece of the Subtles Backgrounds DSP stack, cut with my Envelope Liner Framelit.

Et Voila!  A pretty birthday card that lets the quiet beauty of Wisteria Wonder shine thru!  And the Birthday Blossoms stamp set really plays well with this color.

Don’t miss the chance to get these two fun punches at a great price – punches can be spendy, but they’re so handy…when they go on sale is a great time to get them for yourself!! 🙂

  1. I like how you rotated the sketch. I never think to do that.

  2. So very pretty Mary! Love the touches of glitter, they perfectly accent your colors and design. Awesome!! 🙂

  3. Mom

Now that is a winner! Beautiful card, Mary, and the understatement of the color scheme is a perfect foil for the bits of glitter. Very very nice.

  4. Susan K

Hopping through but your card really caught my eye! Love all the details, like how you used the glitter tape on the itty bitty flower and the butterfly. Great card! Thanks too for all the details and card sizes. I hope to CASE this beauty!

  5. Lynn Gauthier

Gorgeous card with gorgeous color. Love the stamping, inside and out. Can’t wait to try the new Glitter tape. I didn’t realize that you could see thru it and that you could ‘punch’ it. Very interesting!!!
    Thanks for sharing with us!

    • Thanks, Lynn – I think the white one is the only one that you can really see thru – the Gold and Silver are pretty opaque. But they all punch (which I didn’t know until I tried it on this card! 🙂 )

  6. Kristi Gray
