Stampin’ Up! A Beautiful Ride to Congratulate a New Couple!

Good Wednesday to y’all!  Hope that your week is going well.  I’m engrossed in trying to get back into the swing of things at home, receiving my boxes of toys from the post office, setting my stampin’ spot back up (I moved it a bit – and got all my fun new StampNStorage goodies all set up), and trying to kick my traditional post-business-trip cold.  Cuz…why not? 🙂  It really is the only way to experience the entirety of a long trip, don’t you think?

My card share today is one that I did last week in preparation for not having my stuff or the energy to get it all together to be card making for a day or two.  It uses the Wink of Stella “watercolor” technique that I did a few weeks ago (want to see that one?  Here’s the link!) paired with the Beautiful Ride stamp set from the Occasions catalog.  And, cuz I have it – I used some of the new Metallics Glitter Tape!  Take a look-see:

Beautiful RIde Journey Begins 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Now, this card is destined to go to my friend who is asking his girlfriend to marry him this month.  He’s a “ginger” – hence the coloring of the young man’s hair in my beach scene!  I thought this scene of a couple just sharing a little time on a sunset beach was pretty much a perfect match!

Huh.  Just occurred to me – I’ve never met the young lady in question – what are the odds she’ll have long blonde hair?!?  Fingers crossed! 🙂

I started with a panel of Canson 90lb Cold Pressed Watercolor Paper and I stamped the couple from Beautiful Ride in Basic Black Archival Ink.  That gave me the starting point for the rest of the scene.  I colored them in with my Stampin’ Write Markers – I used a little Cajun Craze and a touch of Pumpkin Pie for his hair – Daffodil Delight and a little Hello Honey for hers.  They both got blue jeans and shirts (not a clothing-optional beach! 😉 ) and then I started in on the rest of the scene!

Beautiful Journey Begins 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I used the grass image from In the Meadow, in Mossy Meadow, to add some grass tufts around the couple.

Using my older Clear Wink of Stella (that’s been designated as my “watercoloring” wink), I used some Sahara Sand, Daffodil Delight, and some Soft Suede to make the sand dune upon which our couple is resting.  I made sure to have the sandy “horizon” curve a little bit – just to make it feel a little more like they’re on a hilly dune.

Then I started adding the “ocean” – with Marina Mist and Bermuda Bay and a little Daffodil Delight.  These are all just lots of little short strokes – picking up ink from the lids of my Stampin’ Pads with the Wink brush.

Finally, I pulled in the sky.  I started with a little Night of Navy, and some Daffodil Delight and Rich Razzleberry and Pumpkin Pie.  I made a “setting sun” by concentrating Daffodil Delight and some Pumpkin Pie in a large half circle near the center.  Just keep playing with it until you like it!

I stamped some of the Beautiful Ride hearts in Marina Mist all over the sky – I don’t know why, I just liked them!

Beautiful Journey Begins 2 - Stamps-N-LingersI sponged some Night of Navy around the sky portions and a little bit of Crumb Cake around the “sand”.  Then I matted the panel on Basic Black and Tempting Turquoise card stock.  The card front itself is a piece of Very Vanilla, matted on Basic Black card stock.  I wrapped a length of Pacific Point 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon around the card front – securing it in the back with scotch tape.  Then I popped the art panel on with Stampin’ Dimensionals!

Actually – I did the popping on before I added the ribbon.  I decided on the ribbon after I had the art panel on.  Thank goodness that my Stampin’ Dimensionals were placed such that I could thread the ribbon under the panel!  And it lines up really nicely with the ocean – continuing that line across the card.  Hey – even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut! 🙂

Beautiful Journey Begins 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The sentiment is from Beautiful Ride, stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on a scrap of the Perfectly Artistic DSP that I had leftover.  I cut both ends with my Washi Label punch.  I also pulled out a length of the new Metallics Glitter Tape and cut both of its ends with the punch.  Then I laid it on the card front and SNAILd the sentiment over the top.  I pulled a strand of Bermuda Bay Baker’s Twine and some Gold Metallic Thread thru a Vintage Faceted Button, tied a little bow and adhered it with a Glue Dot.

On the inside, I ran a piece of Gold Metallics Glitter Tape across the bottom of a Very Vanilla panel, letting it wrap slightly around the sides.  Then I matted it on a piece of Basic Black card stock, and wrapped some Basic Black 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon around – securing it in the back with scotch tape.  The sentiment, from Beautiful Ride, is stamped in Tuxedo Black.  Then I reprised the Marina Mist heart image.  Can’t help it.  I just think it’s so cute! 🙂

Beautiful Journey Begins 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I blinged up a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope with a piece of Metallics Glitter Tape (I think it looks a little like sparkly sand!) and some Marina Mist Beautiful Ride hearts on the front…

…and a liner using Bermuda Bay paper from the Brights Background DSP Stack, cut with my Envelope Liner Framelits.

Beautiful Journey Begins 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Voila!  I think this is a nice beachy and romatic-y card for them.  They’re both from Florida so their ties to the ocean and the beach are strong and I hope this will strike a cord with both of them!  And – I hope that you like it and will try this Wink of Stella “watercolor” technique soon! 🙂

I’ll be seeing you tomorrow for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop!  It’s a sketch challenge this time around, so it should be fun.  We’ll all go live at 7am Eastern!
