Stampin’ Up! Enjoy a Beautiful Ride!

Good day-before-Saturday-which-I-actually-get-off!  I’ll assume that you’re all looking forward to the weekend – and some sleep! – as much as I am.  It’s been a long week, for sure.

In the midst of the madness, though, sits my Stampin’ stuff – quietly waiting for me to return to it for a few minutes of creative happiness!  Just this morning, while making red beans and rice, macaroni salad and BBQ baked beans (potluck day at the office) in the postage stamp kitchen,  I whiled away the macaroni-boiling time by working on a card for tomorrow!  Nice way to wait for soft macaroni.  Also – if I had returned to the bed….well.  I might still be snoring there! 🙂

For today, though, I have a card that I made for you last weekend.  It combines the new Occasions stamp set called Beautiful Ride and the Going Places DSP.  Take a look-see:

Life is a Beuatiful Ride 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

This stamp set is a lot of fun – I really love the dog-in-the-window image!  He’s sure ready to go anywhere – and right now! 🙂

I took my inspiration for the layout of the card from the Pals Paper Arts challenge #284.  I missed the posting deadline for the challenge – but a lot of folks made some awesome cards.  You should definitely go check them out!

PPA284 Sketch

Perhaps you can tell I turned the sketch on its side…

I started by building the card front.  Using a piece of the street map design in the Going Places DSP stack, I matted it on a piece of Basic Black card stock.  Then I laid it over a piece of the world map design from the same set.  I angled it around until it was just about right and SNAILd it to the green world map paper.  I trimmed the leftover paper to fit the left edge of the card front, then I matted the whole shootin’ match to another panel of Basic Black card stock.

The Love Bug is from Beautiful Ride.  I stamped it on a piece of Whisper White in Crushed Curry and then colored it with my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker.  But then I decided I couldn’t see the outlines of the car enough, so I traced over all of it with my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker.  I stamped the little dog into the window with Crumb Cake ink and colored him with my Blender Pen and some Smoky Slate ink.  And a Real Red collar, of course!

Life is a Beautiful Ride 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The tires are colored with my Basic Gray Stampin’ Write Marker.  And I added a Calypso Coral flower in the “vase” inside the Bug, cuz…you know…Bug? – complete with a Pearl Basic Jewel in the center.  That comes in the Beautiful Ride stamp set, too!  As did the LOVE and the Peace sign images!  I inked the LOVE image in Mossy Meadow and Cherry Cobbler, using the Stampin’ Write Markers to ink the stamp directly.  The peace sign is in Cherry Cobbler as well.

I fussy cut the car out and went to work on the luggage and surf board.  I stamped everything in Early Espresso on Whisper White.  Colored in the luggage with Melon Mambo, So Saffron, Calypso Coral, and Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Markers.  The surf board is Pumpkin Pie.  I’m pretty sure a lot of surfers have Pumpkin Pie colored surf boards!

Life is a Beautiful Ride 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Then I fussy cut all of that.  I thought it would be fun to give some texture to the luggage, so I used some Tangerine Tango Baker’s Twine (not available any more – sorry!  But there’s lots of other colors to pick).  I just used some of my Fine-Tip Glue Pen and glued it over the stamped luggage straps – then added a bow at the top!

Everything’s popped on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  And – doesn’t the Basic Black mat that the car is “riding” on look just like asphalt on the road?Life is a Beautiful Ride 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The Beautiful Ride sentiment is stamped on Very Vanilla in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then I trimmed the banner ends with my Paper Snips.  I added a couple of Calypso Coral flowers, with a tiny Pearl Basic Jewel in the center.  It’s popped on with Dimensionals.

On the inside, I SNAILd a Very Vanilla panel to a Basic Black mat.  Then I combined two of the sentiments in the stamp set and stamped them in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  Plus a Calypso Coral flower.

Life is a Beautiful Ride 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd that into my Mossy Meadow card base, and also SNAILd the front on as well.  And that was it for the card!

Life is a Beuatiful Ride 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

For the envelope, I used a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope and decorated it all over the front and the back flap with Calypso Coral flowers…

Life is a Beautiful Ride 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

…and made a Going Places DSP liner with my Envelope Liner Framelits.

Life is a Beautiful Ride 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Voila!  A kind of quirky, fun card – that could be used for a lot of different occasions.  Maybe someone has a new job?  Going off to college?  Getting married?  Whatever you might need!  Hope that you like it.  And – that you’re considering adding Beautiful Ride to your repertoire!

  1. What a cool card Mary! Love the little puppy in the window and it looks like he’s already off on an adventure! Fantastic! 🙂

  2. Mom

Well. I love this card…and I would even if that didn’t look like my Iz in the back seat! The map, the top load…it is all great. Even suggests life can be a downhill ride, which, of course, we all know it isn’t always. This reminds us it was and will be again…just over the crest of the next hill.

  3. I make the assumption that there’s an uphill just ahead! And – it does kind of look like Iz! Thanks, Mom – glad that you liked it! 🙂

    What a great card.

  6. Thanks, Jari! 🙂

  7. I love what you did with this card! I would love to share this on my blog for ‘My Crafty Friends Monday’ (a round up of amazing cards from amazing stampers!)! Please let me know if you would prefer that I didn’t share it (of course I give you credit and link back to your blog!).
    Inky Hugs!
