Stampin’ Up! All Ye Faithful and Every Blessing for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2

Well, it’s Thursday again – and you know what that means….it’s Happy Stampers Team Blog Hop day, of course!  Once again, the ladies-who-hop have gathered together (sort of virtually….) to bring you some creative projects for your crafty pleasure. I hope that you’ll enjoy what I have to share and then head to everyone’s blog and see what they brought to the party!

Our challenge this week was to use Basic Black, Gold, and Whisper White.

Easy peasy.  Right?  Well….yea.  Sure ’nuff.  Unless, of course, you go to your stash and discover….not a piece….not even a sliver!…of Gold Foil!  I mean – Not. A.  Bit.

Dang it.

What to do?

I thought about begging for a pass – maybe permission to use Silver  – which I have in abundance.

But then I thought – come on, Mare (that’s what I call myself when talking to myself!)…..get a little outside the box, for cryin’ out loud.  There’s nothing says you have to mat in Gold Foil.

So – I didn’t.  I pulled out All Ye Faithful.  I gathered up Every Blessing.  And some Vellum.  And Basic Black card stock.  And my Versamark ink and Gold Stampin’ Powder.  And this is what I came up with.  Take a look-see:

All Ye Faithful Blessing 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I started out by doing some layout on my Grid Paper, and determined I needed a bigger-than-normal card.  So this one is a square, measuring 5 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ .  I started with a panel of Whisper White card stock.  The first step was to stamp the Every Blessing image in Basic Black Archival Ink in the bottom corner.  I used my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to color in any light spots.

Then I lined up and cut my oval, using the 4th-from-the-center die in my Ovals Collection Framelits.  It’s not centered in the card front – to me it lets the image draw your eye, which puts the focus smack where it needs to be this time of year! 🙂

For the “window pane”, I inked and stamped, in Versamark, the Holy Family from All Ye Faithful on a piece of Vellum card stock.  I sprinkled the image with Gold Stampin’ Powder, heated it with my Heat Tool and set it aside to cool and await its eventual adherence to the back of my card front panel.

The star is also from Every Blessing – I inked just the star in Versamark, and then I taped over the remainder of the image (having learned my lesson on try #1….I wasn’t taking a chance at a “ghost” image from the rest of the cleaned stamp!) and then stamped it up near the top of the card.  I heat embossed it in Gold Stampin’ Powder.  And then I did the same with the sentiment from Versatile Christmas (retiring, sadly).

I used simple scotch tape and stuck the gold-embossed vellum behind the card, centering the image in the window.

Then I wrapped a length of Basic Black 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon across the top, securing it in the back with more of that ever-so-handy scotch tape.  I used a shorter length of the ribbon and just tied it around the first piece – the knot results in a sort of “faux” bow.  🙂 And it’s quite tailored looking – which I really thought suited the card.

I popped the card front onto a mat of Basic Black – and then set it aside.

For the inside, I repeated the Whisper White on Basic Black matting theme – using SNAIL this time.  Then I heat embossed, in Gold Stampin’ Powder, another sentiment from Versatile Christmas.  A final strand of the Basic Black Stitched Sating Ribbon across the top – no faux bow this time – completed the inner liner. (Man, I just realized how crooked-y the ribbons looks in these pics – it’s really not that bad in real-life. I promise)

All Ye Faithful Blessing 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd that into my Whisper White card base, and then popped the card front on with more Stampin’ Dimensionals – yes, you heard that right.  The front is double popped. 😉

And I stopped myself from adding anything more to the card.  It was hard.  I wanted to bling it.  But, I finally talked myself out of it – this card wanted to stay quiet and focused on the All Ye Faithful Holy Family.  So there it is!

For the envelope, I made a custom-sized envelope from Whisper White Envelope Paper and the Envelope Punch Board.  The envelope ended up being a little big for the card, but that’s okay.  It gave it plenty of room!

I stamped a couple of Every Blessing’s 4-legged adorers onto the front of the envelope.  I used tape to cover the parts of the image I didn’t want, and then inked the animals with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.

The inside got a custom liner – made from a piece of It’s My Party DSP.  I spied it on my table, and thought the black-and-white theme would fit right in.  You can see how to use your Envelope Punch Board to make custom envelope and liners by going over to my Tutorials page!

Et Voila!  I hope that you like this card – even without any Gold Foil anywhere to be seen!  I love how these two beautiful stamp sets combined to convey the true meaning of this Season.

beautiful card Mary and way to come up with the gold!….

  2. Love how you think outside the box, you always come up with something so uniquely beautiful. What an awesome scene you created with your card! So very pretty and inspirational!

  3. What a beautiful card Mary! Love the simplicity of it, perfectly done. I had a Gold Foil “moment” as well when I realized that I only had scraps left…Yikes!! We can blame it on the fact that our brains are in holiday mode. 😉
