Good Blog-Hop-Thursday-Morning to y’all! I hope you’re ready for some beautiful projects from all the Ladies-Who-Hop. At the end of the post are links to all the blogs – be sure to cruise thru all of them, okay?
Now – I’m going to apologize up front for the quality of my pictures. I got back to the hotel last night, with plenty of time to finish my card, set up some sort of photo area (I did not bring one of my Ott Lites – which I may come to regret) and get my post done. That was all true right up until the hamburger I ate at lunch (this is where I’m laying the blame), let me know in no-uncertain-terms that there’d been something awry with it. Folks – not trying to curry sympathy here – but my night sucked! Getting my card done became extremely low on my list right quick like. I’m thinking it’s passed now, but…my energy level is low low low!
End of whining!
Today’s Happy Stampers Blog Hop challenge is a color challenge – we’re to use Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake and Old Olive. I decided to do a Christmas themed card with the lovely (and retiring – so get it now if you love it!) Dove of Peace. I pulled my sentiment from Six Sayings – another stamp set that’s retiring at the end of the 2015 Holiday Catalog. This one is a Hostess Stamp, so if you want it in your stash, let’s chat about how to get it. So, here’s what I came up with – take a look-see:
The colors of the actual card are quite a bit richer than they appear here. Sorry – I’m going to have to buy another light….
I started by cutting the center square from Very Vanilla card stock and laying it over the top of my Very Vanilla card front. I dusted it with my Embossing Buddy, and inked just the Dove image in Versamark. I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to get the Dove stamped where I wanted her – with some of the image off the center square. I stamped both panels at the same time. Then I sprinkled both pieces of card stock with Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated them up.
I colored the Dove with my Old Olive and Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Markers. Then, to add the sentiment, I once again went to my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, inked just the Dove of Peace sentiment in Old Olive, and stamped it on the card front.
I SNAILd the Dove of Peace image to a mat of Cherry Cobbler and then popped it on the card front – aligning the images – with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
A length of Venetian Crochet Trim, wrapped around and secured in the back with scotch tape, was the base for the embellishment. Over that I did a triple wrap of Old Olive Baker’s Twine, and finished it with a little bow. Finally, I used some Glue Dots to adhere three Winter Wonderland Embellishments to the card, SNAILd it to its Cherry Cobbler mat and set it aside to do the inside of the card.
I went to my Six Sayings stamp set for the inside sentiment, and stamped it in Old Olive on a Very Vanilla panel. Then, I realized that the fronds in the For All Things stamp set look very much like the fronds in the Dove’s beak, So I stamped a couple of them in Old Olive – I stamped them twice without re-inking. Then I SNAILd the panel to a Cherry Cobbler mat and added it to the inside of a Crumb Cake card base.
With that safely installed, I popped the card front onto the….front!…with Stampin’ Dimensionals. And that did it for the card.
My night reduced the time and energy I had to make an envelope, so I simply stamped more of the For All Things fronds on the front of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope – again stamping twice without re-inking.
Et Voila! I promise it’s prettier in person – I really do need to figure out a better photo-taking solution! 🙁
