Stampin’ Up! One Big Meaning Thanks Veteran’s Today!

Happy Veteran’s Day – to those who are currently serving – I thank you.  From the bottom of my heart.  Your selfless dedication and willingness to pay the ultimate price so that we may live in peace in our beautiful land is a blessing to us all.  I pray for your safety and your swift return home!  To the men and women who served and are now pursuing lives in the private world – I salute you!  And Thank You.  You gave up years of your lives with your families and friends, to protect us.  We owe you everything!

To that end, today’s share is a blatantly patriotic, red white and blue thank you card.  Since it features a Festive Flower, I suspect it would be more suitable to Soldiers/Airmen/Sailors/Marines of the female variety, but – there’s a lot of those folks these days. 🙂  I used the festive Flower Punch and the One Big Meaning stamp set – filled with all sorts of great Thank You sentiments.  And some glitter.  Okay – maybe kind of a lot!

Take a look-see:

One Big Meaning Veteran's Day Card 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I drew my design inspiration from the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #294.  Head over there and check the cards that everyone will be submitting – I know they’re going to be great!

SSSC 294 Sketch

This is a substantial card – it measure 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″!  To emboss my Real Red card front in the Lucky Stars TIEF, I had to run the panel thru the Big Shot twice.  I determined where my horizontal design element was going to fall and I set the edge of the TIEF in that area – knowing the little “bump” that’s left over would be covered.  So I did the embossing twice, and then used a combination of SNAIL and Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to my piece of Silver Glimmer Paper.  Confession:  I used the largest of my Squares Collection Framelit dies to cut the center out of the Glimmer Paper – frugality demanded it!!  So I have a little square left over ready for another use.

The next layer is a piece of Shimmery White card stock, that I used my Stars Decorative Mask and a Night of Navy sponge to decorate.  A patriotic card just needs stars – otherwise it’s not nearly cliche enough! 🙂  I also lightly sponged the edges of the panel, not particularly worrying about the neatness.  Then I SNAILd it to a Night of Navy mat, and thence to the card front.

I built my Patriotic flower using the Festive Flower Builder Punch and a combination of Dazzling Diamonds and Red Glimmer Paper, and some of the Regals Backgrounds Designer Series Paper in Night of Navy.  I cut a lot of each type of petal, and then constructed two layers – gluing the petals onto 7/8″ Scalloped Circles – that I’d punched from Real Red card stock.  Before I glued everything on, I folded all the petals in half long-ways and then opened them back up.  The “white’ petals all got a light brush with my Real Red sponge.

The center stamens are punched from Silver Glimmer Paper.  Now, this is a lot of “stuff” to try to glue together – especially considering that so much of it is Glimmer Paper, which is notoriously hard to adhere to.  So, I used my Handheld Stapler and did one staple right in the center.  I covered the staple with a sequin and black star from the Metallic Sequin Assortment, and finished up with a Rhinestone Basic Jewel.

I think you can see – under the sentiment strip, I used three more petals to create the “banner” ends in the sketch!  I just aligned them to look banner-end-ish, and stapled them with the Handheld Stapler.  I laid it down on the card front with Liquid Glue.

I pulled a great sentiment from One Big Meaning, and stamped it in Night of Navy on a piece of Shimmery White card stock.  I used more SNAIL and Liquid Glue to adhere it to it’s Silver Glimmer Paper mat.  It got another little black star from the Sequin Assortment and a Rhinestone to round things out.  I SNAILd it to the card front and trimmed the ends with my snips.

Now, don’t go jumping to ridiculous conclusions when I tell you this next part, okay?  I adhered my Festive Flower to the sentiment strip with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  Then I trimmed the ends of the sentiment strip – which I’d deliberately made too long – to make it even with the edges of the card front.  When you do this, be careful – especially if you turn the card over and snip from the back, which of course you would do because that makes sense.  But….if one of your cuts seems too…..thick?  Hard to cut?  See what you’re cutting – don’t just “power” thru it okay?  That extra thickness just might be the tip of your Red Glimmer petal…. 😉  Which would mean you’d have to do some fancy scissor and glue work to fix it.  If that were to ever happen.  I may or may not know this from experience….

One Big Meaning Veteran's Day Card 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd the card front to my Night of Navy card base – again, didn’t use Dimensionals cause there’s already plenty of depth to this baby.

For the inside, I SNAILd a piece of Shimmery White card stock to a Real Red mat.  Then I cut a star out of a scrap of envelope paper (another use for those too-small-to-be-envelope leftovers!) with one of my Stars Framelit dies and used it to sponge a Night of Navy star in the center of the inside liner.

The inner sentiment is from the Happy Scenes stamp set, inked in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

I made an envelope with my Real Red Envelope Paper and Envelope Punch Board.  And I also made a liner – see how at my Tutorials page!  I sponged another Night of Navy star on the front – and outlined it with a non-SU! Dark Silver gel pen….

…and made another Star-masked liner, using Night of Navy ink on a piece of Whisper White card stock.

Et Voila!  A patriotic card to send to a loved one serving now or recalling days of service past!  And yet another use for the great Festive Flower punch – which just so happens to be 25% off this week – since it’s in the Weekly Deals!  Just throwin’ that out there! 🙂
