Good Blog-Hop-Thursday-Morning to y’all!  I hope you’re ready for some beautiful projects from all the Ladies-Who-Hop.  This week was a color challenge….

12046689_1271122759580963_3978183749556588717_n

Perfect perfect perfect colors for Fall cards – so, I know that everyone is going to just “wow” the socks off of us all.  If you’re not wearing socks – I’ll wait while you go put some on.  It’s Fall!  And getting chilly.  You’ll catch your death of cold without socks on!

Anywhooo….before I share my project with you today, I’d like to introduce you to a little dude that we came upon whilst putting the horses out last night.  By the way – the night was so perfectly beautiful – you could smell the leaves on the ground, a little woodsmoke and perhaps someone burning a few leaves.  Just cool enough for a light jacket.  If you Googled “Fall in GA” – last night would have come up!  Just wonderful!

Yikes – off on a tangent again!  Here’s the little dude:

Leetle Frog on the Gate! - Stamps-N-Lingers

According to Google – that’s a Cope’s Gray Tree Frog.  He’s just tiny – not as long as the fingers on my hand.  As opposed to the fingers on my foot?  Sheesh, Mare.  He stayed right there while we put the horses out thru the gate he was resting on, and shut said gate.  Must have been just chilly enough to make him sleepy – his little eyes were at half-mast and kept blinking like – “what?  Huh?  I’m the same color as this smooth tree I’m on. Why can you see me?”.  I love how he’s got his little frog-hands and frog-feet all tucked up under him!

So, now that you’ve met him, let’s talk cards – since that’s why you’re here!  My Blog Hop share uses the beautiful Lighthearted Leaves, a sentiment from Watercolor Wishes and my very favorite thing….the Woodland TIEF.  Take a look-see:

Lighthearted Leaves Birthday 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I decided to play with a square card again – but this time I – duh! – made a size for which I had the right card stock!  This is a 5″ x 5″ card, made using the Whisper White Thick Card Stock as the card base.  It’s a quite simple and clean card – with only one layer for the art piece.

I made the art work by embossing a square of Whisper White Thick Card Stock in the Woodland TIEF – but before I ran it thru, I sponged the inside of the embossing folder.  When you do this, be sure that you sponge the EMbossing side of the folder (that’s the side with the pre-printed words on it).  And you want to keep as much ink off the embossing design as you can.  I used my Stamping Sponges – that I’ve cut into 6 wedges – to sponge Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze.  I figured out where the top of the panel would be, and started the sponging at the top of the folder with the Crushed Curry.  I went about 1/3 of the way down and then switched to Pumpkin Pie.  Did another 1/3 and then used Cajun Craze for the remainder.  I let each color bleed into the other a little – just to keep the colors smooth.  With that, I carefully laid the panel onto the folder, closed it and ran it thru the Big Shot.  You can see the result!

Lighthearted Leaves Birthday 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd that to a mat of Cajun Craze Card Stock.  For the leaves, I wasn’t sure what color I wanted them to be heat embossed, so I did one in Gold and one in Black.  The Gold embossed leaf I colored with my Blender Pens – using color from the lids of my Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie ink pads.  The Black embossed one, I sponged with the same colors, letting them blend at the borders of each color.  Then I cut them both out with the matching Leaflets die.  Gosh I love this set!  If only it would go on sale for 15% off…..oh, wait!!  It IS on sale for 15% off!! As is its sister set – Vintage Leaves!  After I cut them out, I sponged the edges of the gold leaf with my Cajun Craze sponge.

I spent some time trying to decide which leaf to use.  There was hemming and hawing and gnashing of teeth.  I gave up and made dinner.  Somewhere around slicing potatoes and onions – and realizing I desperately need to go to the grocery store! – I had an epiphany.

Use.

Them.

Both.

Duh!

Lighthearted Leaves Birthday 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

So that’s what I did!  I used a couple of Glue Dots to adhere the leaves together and then popped them on the art piece with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The embellishment is a bow made with a length of Linen Thread and two lengths of Metallic Gold Thread, stuck on a Gold Basic Metal Button with a Glue Dot.  Then the button and bow are adhered with a Glue Dot to the leaves.  I popped the whole thing onto the Whisper White Thick Card Base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped the sentiment from Watercolor Wishes in Basic Black Archival Ink in the bottom right corner.  And that was it for the front!

Lighthearted Leaves Birthday 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the inside, I stamped another leaf in Cajun Craze and colored it a little with my Blender Pens.  And that did it.  Very simple.  You’ve got to love this Thick Card Stock – it makes such wonderful card bases, that don’t need any help to be hefty! 🙂

Since this is an odd-shape card (no, I know that a square is not an odd shape.  Unless it’s a card!  And then it’s kind of odd.  And there’s likely not an envelope for it sitting in your stash!), I needed to make an envelope for it.  So, I pulled out a piece of White Envelope Paper and made an envelope for a 5″ x 5″ card (adding 1/8″ to the measurements – you can see why if you hit my Tutorial!).

I stamped the front of my square card with a Crushed Curry and Cajun Craze Lighthearted Leaf…..

Lighthearted Leaves Birthday 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

And then I made a liner for it (again – my tutorial will show you how to make a liner for ANY size envelope using the Stampin’ Up! Envelope Punch Board!) – and then I sponged/embossed that liner just like I did the art piece on the card!

Lighthearted Leaves Birthday 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Voila!  A card that – yes – I am ridiculously pleased with!  I just love love love how the sponging-of-the-embossing-folder thing turned out!  I’m doing a lot of not-very-humble ooh-ing and aah-ing over it. 😉

I hope that you enjoyed my share – and that you’ll go from here to each of the other ladies’ blogs to see what they did with these classic Fall colors!

    Absolutely gorgeous!!!

  4. Jari

Simply stunning! I need to take some lessons from you on your technique for the sponging. It is beautiful. I need to order that stamp set before tomorrow, I forgot to get it the other day-and I love the picture of the frog. He looks cute from a distance. Otherwise, thinking of tree frogs gives me the creeps! 🙂

  5. He did kind of give me a start! Definitely wasn’t expecting him to be there. But, once I got to looking at him – he’s pretty cute. Not to say that I was planning to invite him into the house… 🙂 Thanks, Jari!! And – do get the stamp set. It’s great!

  6. Mom

Really pretty, Mary. And the little tree dude is an interesting critter. Those tucked in appendages are kitty-like…hmmm. Maybe more turtle-like?

  7. Kristi Gray

Beautiful card Mary. Your background is great and it sets off those gorgeous leaves.

  8. Thanks so much, Kristi! 🙂

  9. Way to go…love it all. Your pictures are fabulous. Over the top with inside and envelope as well!!! Hugs from Shelagh. PS ..the frog is very cute!!

    • Thanks, Shelagh! I love doing an envelope to make the whole thing just kind of come together. One of my best purchases EVER was my Envelope Liner Framelits! Of course, I had to make one custom for this square card, but….9 times out of 10 that die set is the way to go!! Appreciate the nice words! 🙂

  10. Carol Carriveau

Soooo gorgeous…love the leaves against the trees!

  11. Thanks so much, Carol! I’m quite happy with them and so glad that you liked it! Woodland TIEF! Love love love!! 🙂
