Today’s card share uses the Christmas-y stamp set called Joyful Season, but it’s in the guise of a Fall card. That’s the only stamp set you’ll need to make this card! I also used some layered stamping techniques, like I’ve shown you before. Take a look-see:
To make the card, I started with a design inspiration from Mojo Monday – and it was a Tall and Skinny challenge. I’m getting to where I really like doing tall and skinny cards, so I had some fun doing it! Here’s where I started:
Be sure to go over there when you’re done here and see what other Tall and Skinny cards folks come up with, okay?
To begin the card, I cut all the pieces for the art work from some Very Vanilla card stock. Once I had them all cut, I used a little bit of scotch tape, rolled inside-out, to lightly hold the the two top pieces in place on the large background piece. That way I could make my stamps of the branches, crossing the edges of each smaller piece of card stock, without the pieces moving. Before I added the small square, I stamped the sentiment from Joyful Season in Basic Black Archival Ink. I added three little ellipsis (that’s what they call the dot dot dot after a word – did you know that? I know that but I don’t know why I know that!).
I stamped the Joyful Season branch using the two-step process. The first stamp (without the berries) I did in Crumb Cake and the second (with the berries) was stamped in Soft Suede. Finally, I added the berries in Pumpkin Pie Ink. I did the branch in the middle first, to help me get the bird in place. With that branch done, I stamped the bird. The outline stamp is done in Archival Black Ink. The second stamp – the body – is in Real Red. I also added his little tiny mask in Archival Black (not necessary to use this, but it’s the one I had out!) and his teensy beak in Hello Honey. Since this is a photopolymer set – lining everything up is easy!
With the bird done, I added the other two branches. When I undid the little rolls of tape securing my card stock pieces, there were gaps where the stamp crossed the edges – but that’s okay. That’s how this technique works – you fill the gaps with a mat. In my case, I used Cajun Craze on all three elements.
I SNAILd all the elements to their respective mats, and then I SNAILd the bird art piece to the largest card stack. Then I added the ribbon element.
That started with a strip of Kraft Corrugated Paper that I SNAILd onto the card. Then I ran a thin line of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue down the center and laid a length of Early Espresso 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon to that, wrapping it around the back and securing it with a little more Liquid Glue. To finish it off, I wrapped some Gold Metallic Thread around the ribbon – I wrapped it 5 times, very close together and secured it in back with scotch tape.
Finally, I put a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals on the top and the bottom of the sentiment square and adhered it over the top of the ribbon. To make the little line of circular elements called for in the design sketch, I adhered three Real Red Home For Christmas Enamel Dots down the side.
Then I SNAILd the whole card front to my Tall and Skinny Very Vanilla card base (note that my card front is the same size as the card base – so you don’t see the card – that wasn’t really planned – I kind of changed my mind part way thru making the card. Just never mind, okay? Jeez, why would you even ask me that?!? 😉 ) and that was it for the front of the card.
On the inside, I used another piece of Very Vanilla card stock on a mat of Cajun Craze. I used another of the Joyful Season sentiments – but first I taped the words that I didn’t want (“May your season be” – seemed redundantly redundant since that was already on the front!) off so that I could ink what I wanted. I stamped it in Archival black ink – and added my ellipses!
I stamped another berried branch across the sentiment and called it good!
For the envelope, I cut out a liner with the largest of the Envelope Liner Dies from Cajun Craze. Then, I ran that cut piece thru the Big Shot in my Woodland TIEF. When I put it in my Medium Very Vanilla Envelope, here’s how it looked:
I adhered the liner with a few lines of SNAIL and then scored the fold line in my Paper Trimmer.
The end result is a pretty Fall card, with a gorgeous male Cardinal heralding the arrival of cooler days, the crunch of Autumn leaves, cozy fires, and maybe some hot apple cider on the stove.
Hope that you enjoyed it!
