Okay – here’s the Dove I benched yesterday in favor of my Fall salute. This card was inspired by one I saw in the new Holiday Catalog. I thought it was gorgeous, so I did my own riff on it.
Take a look-see:
I decided I was going to do a play on Christmas Colors, and used Melon Mambo (red-ish), Old Olive (green-ish) and Pacific Point (uhm – blue). I picked the colors from the list of Brights – figuring they’d coordinate with each other. I’d also pulled out my Pacific Point 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon to use. But then I decided my ribbon wanted to match my card base – and, yep, no Pacific Point. But I have Melon Mambo, so…. color change. On the fly.
Get it?
Fly?
Dove?
Sorry.
I used a panel of Whisper White card stock and ran it thru the new-and-almost-on-the-street (like on 1 Sept!) Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I wrapped my length of Melon Mambo 3/8″ Satin Ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with tape.
Then I popped that onto my Melon Mambo card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The circles are cut with my 2 1/2 inch punch – two are Whisper White card stock, and one is in Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper. All three were edged with my Melon Mambo Stampin’ Write Marker. On one of the Whisper White circles, I stamped the sentiment from Happy Scenes (1 Sept) in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Then I adhered all three circles with SNAIL.
I adhered one of the new Iced Rhinestones (1 Sept) to the bottom circle and I was ready to tackle the Dove of Peace!
This is a beautiful stamp – that, like Lighthearted Leaves, let’s your inner child out to play with your colors!! In this case, I used the Stampin’ Write Markers in Melon Mambo, Pacific Point and Old Olive. I first stamped the Dove onto a piece of Whisper White card stock, in the new Basic Black Archival Ink. Then I fussy cut him out of the card stock. I colored him in – the hardest part was STOPPING! I wanted to keep coloring and playing but I also wanted him to be mostly white! Conundrum, indeed.
When I had him all colored up, I popped him onto the card front with Dimensionals. Notice that when I cut him – I didn’t leave his olive branch – too much like work! So, I needed a suitable substitute. I found it in the For All Things set. I stamped the frond in Old Olive and then fussy cut it out – a casual cut, not all that “fussy”, really!
When I went to stick the frond (which I’ve now dubbed an Olive Branch!) onto the card – I realized it looked goofy on top of the bird’s beak. Goofy under the bird’s beak. Just….goofy. He needed to be HOLDING the branch. Hello? So….I carefully snipped his little beak so I could delicately stick the branch into his mouth. I used some small pieces of Dimensionals to put the branch onto the card.
I made a tiny bow of Silver Metallic Thread and adhered it on the top of the branch with a tiny dab of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. I have to say – the metallic thread is wonderful to use, but it’s persnickety about bows sometimes. Took me a while…. 😉
I popped the finished card front onto my Melon Mambo card base and moved inside.
The inside is simply a piece of Whisper White card stock, with the Dove of Peace Sentiment (this is a single Wood-mount stamp, with the bird and the sentiment all in one – just use sticky notes to isolate one or the other if that’s what you need – which I did…so I did). Over the top of the sentiment, I inked up the star from For You & Yours, Too in Versmark Ink. I rubbed my Embossing Buddy over the card stock, then stamped the star, sprinkled it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and heat embossed it. And that was that!
Et Volia! A very pretty Christmas card in non-traditional colors!

Another beautiful card Mary! I bet that it was hard to stop coloring, but I think that you stopped at the perfect time…just enough white and color for a fantastic image! 🙂
Thanks, Amy! It’s a beautiful stamp, that’s for sure! 🙂
Glad the leaves turned up… Similar story with my itty bitty heart punch… How many times did I look in the drawer… And then yesterday, it miraculously appears! Pretty card… Thanks for the time you spend writing out the directions! I learn a lot by reading them each day. Happy weekend!
I appreciate you taking time to read my ramblings each day, Patricia – and I’m happy to hear that you learn a little sumpin’ sumpin’ by doing so. And thanks for taking the time to leave comments!! 🙂
Oh – and glad the punch turned up! 😉
Well, the problem is obvious! Who even has an “embellishments drawer” – and to have the expectation that you might find an embellishment in it defies all logic. What you need is a tawdry assortment of bags, boxes, tins, etc . , piled willy nilly on the dining room table. Did I learn you nothin’?!?
LOL. Guess it didn’t “take”!! I hope I left no one with the idea that my “craft area” looks like one that Martha Stewart or Mary Englebreit might have. Oh no. Not even. 🙂
Your dove is so pretty…love the colors. I love the how you went around the circles with the markers…really neat effect. Your efforts with the leaves and bow worked out awesome. So very nicely done!!!! Thanks for sharing with us!
Thanks, Lynn! I like the edging of the circles myself – just barely visible, but I think it helps them to pop a bit! 🙂
Just beautiful!
Thanks, Jari!
