I saw them! Really! Leaves turning color. I’m not delusional. Our Dogwood Trees are starting to show some color! That means there’s hope, folks. The summer sauna WILL end! And then I’ll be whining about being cold – just you wait and see. And when I do, please feel free to direct my attention back to these posts where I whined and complained about the heat. You have my permission to rub my virtual face in it! 🙂
I had a card all ready to go for today’s post, using the beautiful new Dove of Peace stamp that you can get your hot little hands on on 1 Sept. But then, I made up a card for a CAS(e) This Sketch challenge, and I was so tickled with it that I switched up the batting order. The Dove will debut on Saturday!
This is the sketch that inspired my design. Those folks over at CTS are really talented and they give us such fun sketches for inspiration. This is Sketch #137. Be sure to go over and check them out, okay?
I went to a few obvious choices for this one. Well, obvious for me, anyway. Vintage Leaves. Lighthearted Leaves. Into the Woods DSP. And – more of the wondrous Corrugated Paper!! Love love LOVE this stuff! Take a look-see:
A sharp eye will notice there’s a couple of non-current SU! products in this card. I’ll ‘splain why in a minute. It has to do with my insane organizational skills!
Once I decided that I was going to use leaves for the design element in the sketch, I wanted to use the Into the Woods DSP (avail 1 Sept). I picked this fall-ish design. Mossy Green and Daffodil Delight are two of the colors that coordinate with this DSP, so I let that be my starting point. I first SNAILd a piece of the Kraft Corrugated Paper to a Daffodil Delight mat. Don’t be like me. You should start with the angled paper first. It caused me no end of persnickety measuring and cutting to get the matting and angles right for the DSP piece – cause I had already matted up the card front. Don’t. Be. Like. Me. 😉
But, I made it work, and I got the Into the Woods DSP SNAILd to its own mat of Mossy Green.
For the leaves, I stamped one Vintage Leaves maple, in Pumpkin Pie ink, onto a piece of Daffodil Delight Card Stock and then cut it with the matching Leaflets Framelits dies. I also stamped two leaves from the coming-to-you-soon Lighthearted Leaves stamp set (1 Sept), in Mossy Meadow Ink on Mossy Meadow Card stock. I cut the one leaf out with its matching die from the Leaflets dies, and the other one I fussy cut.
Then I did some measuring and figuring and laying out and rearranging and hemming and decisioning and hawing – and then SNAILd the leaves to the corrugated paper. Then I adhered the Into the Woods piece over the top! And, miraculously, it was all where I wanted it to be!
The sentiment is an Expressions Natural Elements piece, smooshed into my Hello Honey ink pad to give it its color. While it was still wet (my ink pad is still quite juicy!), I sprinkled Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder over it and heat embossed it. That darkened it up a little, and gave it a tiny bit of shine. I glued it to the card with little dabs of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.
Then I went looking for my Into the Woods Elements. I checked the embellishment drawer. I checked the ribbon drawer, the adhesive drawer, the misc/embossing/punch board drawer. I looked under my scraps. I looked under the little dresser that holds the aforementioned drawers. I looked under my chair. I checked my pockets in my pants in the bedroom. I looked in the center console of my van. I sifted the litter in the cat box (eeeew – pretty happy they weren’t THERE!). I called Wayne to see if he’d borrowed them for a project in the shop (he had not). In short – I looked high, low and sideways and didn’t find the pack I know I have. You’ve seen the cards I’ve made with them! You KNOW I have them.
They’ll show up eventually.
But not today.
So, I pulled out my Autumn Wooden Elements (from last year’s Holiday catalog) and used a couple of them to add some interest to my card. I just glued them together and then stuck a tiny Old Olive Baker’s Twine bow to them and stuck them on the card. All with Multi-purpose Liquid Glue.
I popped the whole thing onto my Mossy Meadow card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and that finished off the front of the card.
For the inside, I made an Into the Woods DSP piece, matted in Mossy Green, in a similar angular shape to the front of the card. Something a little different! I adhered it to a piece of Whisper White Card Stock.
I wanted an envelope to complete my ensemble, but I’m out of Whisper White Medium Envelopes. So, I made one with my Envelope Punch Board and a piece of Whisper White Envelope Paper. And, I used a really cool technique that I saw on Mary Fish’s website to make an envelope liner. Here’s the link so you can check it out! When you get there, it’s the second video down – One Minute to Wow! I learned a couple of things from her video.
For this envelope, which is for a standard A2 card (4 1/4 x 5 1/2), the directions on the Envelope Punch Board call for an 8″ x 8″ piece of envelope paper. Mary suggests adding 1/8″ – and that seems to work! She also shows how to make an Envelope Liner with a piece of your DSP. Without the need for the Envelope Liner Framelits – which I’ve wanted for a long time, but have been too….frugal! 😉 ….to buy! So, now I know how to make my own! And so do you after you watch the video.
I won’t go too in depth – watch her video! – but I used a 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ square of the Into the Woods DSP – punching it at 4 3/8″. The only thing different that I did was to go back into my Paper Trimmer after I’d SNAILd the liner to the envelope and scored across the fold line for the flap.

Hee hee, your comments about adhering the angled panel first made me laugh…yep, been there, done that! Too funny on your lost embellishments…I lost one of my brand new dies yesterday for about 10 minutes, I had such a mess going on that I’d set the die and the paper that I was going to cut with it on my bookshelf so that it wouldn’t get “lost”, only I forgot where I’d put it and I tore my desk apart for 10 minutes searching for it. Found it on my bookshelf right where I’d left it and decided that it was time to clean up before lost my mind! 🙂

Very nice. Really like the angled effect…and the corrugated background. I have spied a turned aspen leaf or two. And someone caught a snapshot of two moose at Schaffer’s Crossing…hope I live long enough to see one.
