Know what the worst thing is about being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator? Yup – you guessed it! It’s being able to buy all the stamp sets (and everything else!) at a 20% discount!! 😉 When you combine that with a cool MacBook Pro and high-speed internet….well, the results can be disastrously wondermous! It also lends itself to having a veritable plethora of choices for every card I make. Too many sometimes – I see a sketch come in my e-mail and then I sit and stare at my current stamps….and stare….and pull out a case and consider….and then stare some more….well, you get the picture. Lots of dithering.
That wasn’t the case when I saw the sketch that inspired today’s card. It came from CAS(e) this Sketch and it’s CTS #132:
As soon as I saw it, I pictured Night of Navy Card Stock, with the oak tree from Lovely as a Tree, embossed in white. My vision was clear, my destination assured. I started to work right away. Take a look-see:
Yea….not so much, huh? Neither Night of Navy nor Lovely as a Tree are anywhere to be found….. Instead, I ended up using the new Hostess Stamp set called Floral Wings, new Pretty Petals Designer Paper and an old stand-by (not really old, actually) the Butterflies Thinlits. I DID stick with the white embossing – I’m a woman of conviction, after all!
I began by embossing the butterfly onto a piece of Basic Black card stock. This is a 3-step stamp, and while the Versamark gave me some time, when you CASE this, it would be good to have all three of the stamps mounted on your handles BEFORE you start! I may or may not have been fully prepared for all THREE steps. Just sayin’. Also, definitely use your Embossing Buddy before you start – and don’t forget to use your Photopolymer stamps on a squishy mat!
With the butterfly stamped and heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, I turned to the Butterflies Thinlits. Turns out the medium die fits the Floral Wings stamp just right – not the detailed cuts, but the outside. For this card, it didn’t matter – in fact, I liked how the butterfly turned out after I cut it – broke up some of the white (there was a LOT of it!) and made him more delicate as he rests on the black backgound!
With my flutterby ready to go, I began to assemble the card pieces. First I SNAILd the piece of the Pretty Petals DSP to a mat of Mint Macaron, and then I adhered the layered front to my Basic Black card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The art piece is a simple piece of Basic Black, SNAILd to a mat of some more of Mint Macaron, and then stuck onto the card with more Dimensionals. With that done, I adhered my pretty oak tree butterfly to the card with glue dots. He got a body of pearls….Pearl Basic Jewels, that is.
The sentiment comes, again, from the Floral Wings set, and is heat embossed in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a banner of Mint Macaron. I adhered the banner to a very slightly larger piece of the Pretty Petals DSP (I used every BIT of that sheet, by gosh!) and then cut the banner end from my Triple Banner Punch. It’s a little too small for that punch, but it’s easy enough to slide the paper in and line the punch up just by using the old Mark One Eyeball. I SNAILd the finished banner onto the card front and I was almost done….
I wanted a little bling – so I pulled out the leftover sequins from my Watercolor Wishes Card Kit and adhered them both willy AND nilly on the card with little dabs of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. Each sequin also got a Pearl Basic Jewel.
Et Voila! The front was done!
For the inside, I adhered my next-to-last little scrap of the Pretty Petals across the bottom of a Mint Macaron liner. Then I pierced a little line above and below with my Updated Essentials Paper Piercing Pack – just to add a little sumpin’ sumpin’, savvy? And that was that.
Oh, well, except for the fact that I’d made the card a little bigger than my normal A2 cards, so I needed to make an envelope. What a coincidence – I just happen to have a SU! Envelope Punch Board and a pack of the new Neutrals Envelope Paper. Huh! What are the odds?!? 😉
I made a 5″ x 6″ envelope, in Very Vanilla. That’s a smidge too big – but it leaves room for the flutterby to not get all squishified (that’s a thing) in the mail. Just for some extra fun – and since I had one LAST scrap of the Pretty Petals, I punched out a little group of Bitty Butterflies and adhered them to the envelope. One of them is on the very tip of the flap. Too cute!
Hope you like how this card turned out. I do, even if it’s not my original plan. I’m not the only one who starts down ne road and then take an immediate detour, am I?!? Surely not!
Fair warning, you should probably be on the look-out for that white embossed tree on a card one of these days….it’s still floating around in my head!
