Hey Mike Mike Mike! What day is it, Mike?!? It’s HAWMP-day!! LOL. That commercial just cracks me up every time I see it! Which isn’t all that often unless I’ve screwed up and am watching something in real-time and not on my DVR. Which is almost never! But, I digress….
I have a lovely anniversary card to share with you today. It uses two of my fave stamp sets – Lovely as a Tree and Timeless Love. One as old as the hills (rumor has it that it’s been in the SU! catalog since the very first catalog was published!) and one brand new.
This was a request-card from my mom for her good friend’s anniversary. She asked for something “woodsy”. I think I got it! Take a look-see:
I started by stamping the fronds from the Butterfly Basics sets to make the woodsy background – I stamped them in Sahara Sand to get that tone-on-tone look. Then, I ran the card stock thru the Big Shot in my new Brick Wall TIEF. This particular TIEF is BIG – makes it easy to get even a large sized mat fully embossed – with no edge! I sponged the mat all over with more Sahara Sand – that really pulls out the brick pattern and gives it an aged wall look.
Using the 5th-from-center oval in the Ovals Collection Framelits, I cut the center out. While I had the Ovals out of their package, I used that same size and the next-size-bigger to run thru and cut an oval frame from a piece of Blackberry Bliss. I used a Gold gel pen to “stitch” around the frame, and then sponged it with more Sahara Sand to “quiet” the Blackberry Bliss a little. I was a little quick with that, and my pen ink hadn’t dried yet – so I unintentionally got a pretty cool blur that almost antiqued the frame. At least that’s how it looked to me!! I used glue dots and adhered the frame to the mat. Then I set the whole thing aside for later.
The inside layer of the card front is another piece of Sahara Sand – don’t ask me how big it is – I just made sure it was large enough that it would fit behind the oval window. I started by using my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to line up my Timeless Love sentiment, then I stamped that in Versamark Ink, sprinkled it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss powder and heat embossed it. The foliage is from the Awesomely Artistic set, stamped in Sahara Sand and then outlined with my Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker. Why did I do that instead of just stamping it with Mossy Meadow ink in the first place? Uhm…..it added depth? Yea – that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it. You can’t PROVE it was just goofiness!! 😉 But, when you CASE this, I feel pretty confident that it will look just as good if you skip the stamp-and-trace step. I colored the leaves with Old Olive and a little more Mossy Meadow. Finally, I very lightly sponged all but the sentiment itself with some Sahara Sand ink and it was ready to rock.
The final prep step for the front of the card was to stamp three of the Lovely as a Tree pine trees in Mossy Meadow on Sahara Sand. Then I took a deep breath and fussy cut those boogers out with my snips. It really didn’t take that long, and the end result was worth the effort. I lightly sponged all the edges with Sahara Sand to help the cut edges “disappear”.
To assemble the card front, I started by SNAILing a Mossy Meadow mat to my Sahara Sand card base. Then came the Timeless Love sentiment piece. At that point, I used some Dimensionals on one of the trees and adhered it to the sentiment mat – but I made sure that the top of the tree was not stuck down at this point. Then, with more Dimensionals, I stuck the Brick Wall on, maneuvering it so that the tree top came out of the frame. See?
I then used a glue dot to adhere the tree-top to the Blackberry Bliss frame. I added the final two trees with more Dimensionals and some glue dots where they were needed. As the final touch, I made a little double bow – with a strand of Linen Thread and a strand of Gold Metallic Thread. A tiny dab of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue attached the bow – a little off center cause that’s how I liked it – and the front was done!
The inside was pretty quick and simple. Just some more trees stamped in Mossy Meadow. And then I decided to borrow from a previous card idea – which I just thought was so clever of me to come up with (she says modestly…..). I took one of the Expressions Natural Elements, squished it in Versamark and then heat embossed it with more Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.
Before I adhered it to the card with lots of little dots of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, I colored the little pine cone bough with my Mossy Meadow and Early Espresso Markers and stamped it so it would “lay” on the sentiment. And here’s how it turned out…..
Finally, using my Envelope Punch Board, I made an envelope with a piece of the Kraft paper from the new Neutrals Envelope Paper. Going back into the Lovely as a Tree set, I stamped some more trees on the front, added the little pine bough to the back flap, and put some sticky strip on the inside of the flap so it could be closed (note – I’ve still got the previous-generation Sticky Strip – the new version has tearable brown paper backing!).
Et Voila! One woodsy anniversary card for a special friend. What think you?
Hope you like this card – have fun with the Brick Wall TIEF and the oldie-but-goodie Lovely as a Tree and the newbie-but-destined-for-greatness Timeless Love!!
