Stampin’ Up! Windows into Background Bits!

Mornin’, y’all!  Happy Friday!

Before we embark on today’s card, I want to give you an update on my Online Host Clubs.  My June club is full-up!  I have a few spots left for the club that starts on 1 July – so don’t delay.  If you’re wanting in  – let me know ASAP!  Still need the details?  Here’s a link!

Okay – so my card today is a clean and simple one featuring just three colors.  And almost no layers!

gasp!!

I used the Background Bits stamp set again and some stencil sponging.  Take a look-see:

I played along with the sketch at the Fusion Challenge for the layout.

And my color scheme is from the Color Throwdown.

I started by cutting a Whisper White panel for the card front.  And then I cut an identically-sized panel from Thick Whisper White card stock.  That panel I used to make my stencil.

I used the 1 3/8″ square from the Squares Layering Framelits and cut three windows in the Thick panel.  Then I adhered both panels to my Grid Paper with some Sticky Note tape.

I used a Sponge Dauber to sponge the three squares with Tranquil Tide ink.  I left the stencil in place and stamped the flower from Background Bits in Basic Gray Archival Ink.

I SNAILd the panel to a Basic Gray mat and then used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp the Background Bits sentiment in Basic Gray Archival Ink.

I wrapped a piece of Tranquil Tide 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon (avail 1 June) around the panel and then tied a short piece of the ribbon in a snug knot to make a faux bow.  And that was it for the card front.

On the inside of my card, I taped off a strip at the bottom of a piece of Whisper White card stock, sponged it with Tranquil Tide and added a few more Background Bits flowers in Basic Gray Archival Ink.

I SNAILd the panel to a Basic Gray mat and into my Thick Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got some more of the flowers from the Background Bits stamp set in Basic Gray Archival Ink across the front – and colored them in with my Tranquil Tide Stampin’ Write Marker…

…and I put some of the Tranquil Tide paper from the new Fresh Florals DSP Stack on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love love love this Host set – Background Bits is chock-a-block full of versatile possibility!!  Hope you like – and remember you could choose this stamp set in your Online Host Club Month!

Finn-Fan Fix…

We’ve started using a new collar type for Mr. Finn.  They’re ridiculously ugly.  Bright green – and let me tell you, Lemon-Lime Twist is not a good dog-collar-color!!

And the electronic collar is hunter orange.

We started with the green collar to use with the GPS tracker.

Which didn’t track – so we sent it back.

But I haven’t changed back to his pretty blue collar yet.

Okay.  I don’t remember where I put it.

Don’t judge!  I’ll find it eventually!

But – the two collars are both sized for…horses?!?  They’re so long that they leave a huge “tail”.  Even the green one, which is loose enough on him it’s more like a necklace than a collar.

He just loves to carry stuff in his mouth.

Never ending amusement with an Aussie in the family!

Stampin’ Up! Bits, Backgrounds and Butterflies Thank You

Happy Friday, y’all!  Hope you’ve got some big plans for the weekend.  I have two possible outcomes.  If my trip to Florida is approved sometime today, then my weekend will be filled with making cards to post next week.  If not, then Finny and I are going to a dog show on Saturday.  Not to compete – just to walk around and watch!  And see lots of cool stuff!!  Heck – I may do that anyway and just resign myself to a couple of late nights.  They’re going to do some search-and-rescue trails.  I think that would be a cool endeavor for the Chewie!

My card today is one that took me a few tries.  I did the inner liner three times.  Screwed it up twice before finally getting it right on the third go.  😉  I used the new Background Bits Host-Exclusive set and a couple of Butterflies Thinlits die cuts.  Take a look-see:

I was working with the challenge over at The Card Concept with this one.

I started with a piece of Very Vanilla card stock and used the script image in the Background Bits set to stamp all over the panel.  I used Crumb Cake ink and stamped the image off once before stamping the panel.  Then I used the floral block image – again stamping off once – and stamped over the top in Crumb Cake.  Then I SNAILd the panel to a Basic Black mat.

For the next layer, I used a piece of retiring This Christmas Specialty DSP (still available at 30% off!).  I tore the edges to get it down to size and sponged it with Crumb Cake ink.  Across the bottom, I stamped the flowers from the Background Bits in stamped-off-once Crumb Cake.  Then I used Liquid Glue to adhere it to the card front.

Using the largest die in the Butterflies Thinlits, I cut one from Basic Black and one from Island Indigo card stock.  The Basic Black butterfly I adhered with Liquid Glue directly to the card front.

I used a Sponge Dauber to spong the edges of the Island Indigo butterfly with Dapper Denim ink.  Then I sponged Whisper White Craft Ink on the body and the middle portion of the wings.  When that dried, I added Elegant Eggplant over the white areas on the wings.  I adhered it over the black butterfly with Liquid Glue, leaving his wings lightly curled up,

My sentiment, from Background Bits, is stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on a piece of Very Vanilla.  I snipped banner ends and distressed the edges with my Tim Holtz distress tool (I got mine at Amazon – here’s a link!).  I stamped over the sentiment with the Background Bits floral block image in stamped-off-once Crumb Cake.  Then I sort of roughed it all up to wrinkle it a bit.  Finally, I sponged it with Crumb Cake.

I doubled a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon and adhered it and the sentiment to the card front with my Handheld Stapler – and that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I used another panel of Very Vanilla and added the Background Bits script and floral block images in stamped-off-once Crumb Cake.  Then I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to add a second sentiment in Tuxedo Black.  I also added the flowers in stamped-off-once Crumb Cake over the sentiment.

I sponged the edges with Crumb Cake, SNAILd it to a Basic Black mat and into my Island Indigo card base.  Then I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got some more of the Background Bits images across the front.  The flowers are in full strength Crumb Cake and the script and floral block are stamped-off-once.  I also sponged the bottom of the envelope with more Crumb Cake ink…

…then I added more of the This Christmas Specialty DSP to the envelope flap and added some Crumb Cake flowers and sponging.

Et Voila!  I love this card kind of a lot, y’all!  I love the distressed sheet music and the wonderful – but subtle! – designs from the Background Bits stamp set.  And I think the butterfly just pops!!  I hope you like – and are figuring out how to get this Host stamp set for yourself!!  Give me a holler – I’ve got some ideas on that!

Finn-Fan Fix…

So – it’s snick season here in GA.

What’s a snick?  It’s our word for cases of mistaken identity.  Observe.

Is that a snake?

Nope – it’s a Snick…

And this is a Snick….

These are not Snicks… those are sticks.

Is this a snick?

Not a snick.  Real thing.

Hi, Mr. Rat Snake.  Good thing I saw you before Finn did!  I’m afraid he’d have thought you were a snick.  When you’re not a snick at all – you’re an actual snake. 😳

Stampin’ Up! Just Add Text Sneak Peek for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday, y’all – and welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop! We’ve got a super color combination to play with this week – one of my favorites! – and I know all our ladies have made some beautiful projects for you.  Y’all be sure to hop thru all their blogs when you get done here! 🙂

Here’s our colors!!

For my card, I pulled out another new stamp set – this is the Just Add Text set.  And I combined it with some Delightful Daisy DSP and a few touches from the Background Bits Host-exclusive stamp set.  Take a look-see:

I used the sketch at Mojo Monday this week to help me with the layout of this one.

I started with a Whisper White panel, SNAILd on Daffodil Delight for my card front.  Then I used a piece of Old Olive paper from the Delightful Daisy DSP for the diagonal strip.  I used a pencil to trace the diagonal cut I needed and cut it with my Trimmer.  Then I did the same with a Daffodil Delight card stock strip for the mat.  I used Liquid Glue to adhere the paper to the mat and then to the card front.

The middle layer is one of my favorite designs from the Delightful Daisy DSP, SNAILd on Daffodil Delight and then popped on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the sentiment, I used the beautiful stamped image from the new Just Add Text stamp set.  I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to put it right where I wanted it and stamped it in Night of Navy on a Whisper White panel.  I used my Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Marker to color the flowers and a combination of Old Olive Stampin’ Write Marker and Old Olive Watercolor Pencil to color the leaves.  Then I SNAILd it to a Daffodil Delight mat.

I wrapped some of the new Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Double-Stitched Ribbon around the panel, securing it with a Glue Dot in the front.  Then I added a little bow with a second Glue Dot.  Finally, I added a Night of Navy heart Enamel Shape and the card was done!

On the inside, I first stamped some little flowers in Daffodil Delight across the bottom of a Whisper White panel.  These flowers are in the Background Bits Host-Exclusive set coming on 1 June.  Over those, I added a Daffodil Delight-matted strip of the Delightful Daisy DSP.

I SNAILd the panel to a Daffodil Delight mat and into my Night of Navy card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more of the Background Bits flowers in Daffodil Delight across the front…

…and more of the Delightful Daisy DSP on the envelope flap.

Stampin’ Up! Background Bits Sneak Peek for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday, y’all – and welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop! We’ve got a sketch to play with this week and I know all our ladies have made some beautiful projects for you.  Y’all be sure to hop thru all their blogs when you get done here! 🙂

Here’s the sketch…

I’ll be honest here, folks – I spent a fair bit of time sitting at my craft table trying to figure out what the heck to do with this one.  It for sure wasn’t one of those that I “saw” as soon as I looked at the sketch.  But – I finally decided to use the new Background Bits Host stamp set in the new Annual Catalog.  And I paired it up with some of the new Color Theory DSP.  Take a look-see:

Once I sort of got a picture in my head, it went together pretty quickly.  I started by SNAILing a piece of Whisper White card stock to a Tranquil Tide mat for the card front.

The bottom square of my stack is a piece of the Dapper Denim paper in the Color Theory DSP Stack, cut with a Stitched Shapes square die and matted on a scalloped edge Tranquil Tide square, cut with the Squares Layering Framelits.  It’s SNAILd to the card front.

For the angled panel, I stamped the floral background image in the Background Bits stamp set in Tranquil Tide twice on a piece of Whisper White and then cut it out with my trimmer.  I sponged the edges in Dapper Denim and then adhered it over the layered square with Liquid Glue.

I stamped the single flower image from Background Bits twice in Basic Black Archival Ink on another piece of Dapper Denim paper from the Color Theory DSP Stack and then cut it with a Stitched Shapes circle die.  I used a little Liquid Glue to adhere it to a Tranquil Tide scalloped circle and then popped it over the layers with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final layer is my sentiment.  I inked the sentiment from Background Bits in Versamark and stamped it on a piece of the same paper as my art circle.  I sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.  I snipped one end in a banner and then, to mimic a mat, I sponged the edges of the banner with Dapper Denim.  It’s adhered with Liquid Glue.  I added a few Pearl Basic Jewel Embellishments and the card front was done!

On the inside, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp a second sentiment from Background Bits in Dapper Denim on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Across the bottom, I stamped the multiple flower image in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Then I used my Dapper Denim Stampin’ Write Marker to color in the white accents in the flowers.

I SNAILd the panel to a Tranquil Tide mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more of the Basic Black Background Bits flowers (colored in with Dapper Denim) across the front…

…and then I added more of the Dapper Denim Color Theory DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  It took me a minute to come up with an idea, but once I got rolling…I really like how clean and simple it turned out.  Background Bits is a lovely little stamp set – available exclusively with Stampin’ Rewards!  Hope you like!
