Stampin’ Up! Perennial Lovely Thankful Garden Sneak Peek with Video Tutorial

Happy Sunday, y’all!  Fun fact – this is National Banana Cream Pie Day.  Yum!  But – it’s ALSO the start of Chocolate Chip Cookie WEEK!  A pie with bananas gets a day – but a cookie with CHOCOLATE gets a week.  I think that pretty much says all that needs to be said!

My card today features neither bananas NOR chocolate!  It’s all about beautiful flowers – from the new Thankful Garden bundle – which includes Decorative Masks!  And a little Lovely Garden DSP.  They’ll both be available in just a couple of days as new Online Exclusives!  Take a look-see!

The fun layout was inspired by this week’s Try a Sketch on Tuesday challenge.

I started with a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of the new Lovely Garden DSP – yes, it has black-and-white designs.  I found a spot in the top left corner to act as a focal point, then used my Paper Trimmer to cut from the bottom edge and the bottom right edge to that point – thus cutting out the “ray”.  Note: words are not as good as a video so…check that out! 🙂

Then I adhered the cut panel to a Pretty in Pink mat to create the card front.

On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped both floral images from the new Thankful Garden stamp set in Early Espresso ink.

Using the masks – and small Blending Brushes – I colored the images:

For the old fashioned roses:

– Mask 1 – used a very dry brush in Daffodil Delight ink.

– Mask 2 – Daffodil Delight ink.

– Mask 3 – Peach Pie ink.

– Mask 4 – Granny Apple Green ink

– Mask 5 – Garden Green ink.

– Mask 4 (again) – went back over the leaves with the almost-dry Garden Green brush.

For the hydrangea:

– Mask 1 – used a very dry brush in Pretty in Pink ink.

– Mask 2 – Pretty in Pink ink.

– Mask 3 – Peach Pie ink.

– Mask 4 – Granny Apple Green ink

– Mask 5 – Garden Green ink.

– Mask 4 (again) – went back over the leaves with the almost-dry Garden Green brush.

Using the dies in the bundled Thankful Garden die set, I cut out both images.

I used the dies to cut three sets of leaves (two with the many-leaves die and one with the three-leaves die) from Granny Apple Green cardstock.  Then I used the Small Blending Brush to add Garden Green ink to all the die cut leaves – using quite a bit of ink on the three-leaf die cut to make it dark.

To assemble the card front, I thought it would be useful to go ahead and adhere the card front to my Basic Black card base using Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.  That way I could let all the pieces and parts spill off the edges of the card front!

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the yellow roses up in the corner of the card front.  Then I adhered the two multi-leaf die cuts with Liquid Glue and added the hydrangea with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I adhered the three-leaf die cut and a bow tied with two lengths of Lemon Lolly Baker’s Twine with Liquid Glue.

I stamped the Thankful Garden sentiment in Peach Pie ink on a piece of Basic White cardstock and cut it out with the next-to-smallest Perennial Postage die.  Then I adhered the sentiment over the bow with double-stacked Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added some Adhesive-backed Heart Sequins and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped the second Thankful Garden sentiment in Peach Pie ink and a small leaf in Garden Green to a Basic White panel. I added a small Adhesive-backed Heart Sequin by the sentiment.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Pretty in Pink mat and then into the Basic Black card base and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the little Thankful Garden leaf in Garden Green on the front…

…and more of the Lovely Garden DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  My, oh my – aren’t these Thankful Garden flowers lovely!?  Hydrangeas are some of my favorite flowers – and I really love them in pink!  I have become such a fan of the Decorative Masks, too – they’re so great for perfectly coloring their coordinating images!  You’ll be able to get this whole bundle on 4 March – along with the coordinating Lovely Garden DSP.  I know you can’t wait!

Finn Fan Fix

Finny got dressed up and went to the bonfire with us last night.

He had to stay on his leash – just cuz he’s too big and their dog is a slightly built whippet who had to have her front leg amputated.  She gets around WAY more than fine but…Finn’s fave game is body slam and….that could have been….bad for her!

He was fine – he watched and talked and got plenty of pets.

A few times he tried to con someone to bring him a bite of sammich.

Never fear – he got a few bites of the turkey in my sandwich.

He had a good time but…he was ready to come home at 8:30.

Bed time, you know!

Such a pretty card! Love those floral images, the stenciled layers are awesome! Glad that Finn had a good time, even if he had to stay on the leash. 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Yes he did! And he still got lots of pettings – and probably a bite or two of sandwich!! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

Oh, what a handsome, good boy you have. I would have said “man” but then you might have thought I meant Wayne…lol! He’s all that too!! I love your card and that you played at TSOT. It’s such a great design. Bet it was a wee bit chilly at the bonfire. Hurry up spring!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL! Wayne wouldn’t have worn the bandana!! Thanks so much, Karen! 🙂

  4. Mary, this is a stunning card! I just love the color palette and how those beautiful flowers pop against the black. Thank you so much for playing along with the challenge at TSOT.

    Mary,
I watch your videos and see your emails and throughly enjoy them so very much! I will have to say my heart jumped with joy when I viewed you Saturday, March 1 video. I worked so hard on the type of card front you did when I made some Christmas cards. You made this look so very easy to make the ray. I am now ready to make that type of front again and not stress over it 🥺. I also like the tip you gave about the “bow bump”. Hope you enjoyed your friends and possible bonfire Saturday evening. Thank you for helping me make cards. I am not a demonstrator, but I have been using Stampin Up products for over 30 to 35 years. I am able to have women in my home to make cards to help encourage other women in our church. The women from our Baptist church tell us they are so thrilled when they get a card.
    Thank you again,
    Beverly McKibban

Hey Beverly – thanks so much for the very kind words! I’m really glad that the video helped you make your card fronts! Hope you’ll be able to make a bunch of them! And – I’m happy to hear that you’re able to share your home with friends for making cards – that’s so cool!! 🙂

Beautiful… love the variety of your florals and great interpretation of TSOT sketch challenge. You had also met our ingredients in our 3-2-1 recipe at our sister challenge, Double Trouble… don’t forget we pair up with TSOT every two weeks and love you to share at DTC especially when you have met Thing 1’s requirement. Hope to see you next time.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Suzanne – I appreciate the kind words! 🙂

  8. Melanie R

Seems as if you had a great time with friends at the bonfire, and I am especially glad to see that you were able to include “Finn”. I’m sure your turkey sandwich soothed him since he had to wear a leash. 🙂

Your card is lovely, Mary. It’s a fabulous interpretation of our sketch and the colors are striking against the dark background. I am going to check out that SU! bundle right away. Thank you for playing along with us at TSOT.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Melanie – and yes, a bite of turkey sandwich can smooth out lots of ruffled pantaloonies!! Appreciate you coming by! 🙂
