Stampin’ Up! Hooray For Surprises Wild Fern Sneak Peek Thank You Card

Well – happy Christmas Eve, y’all!  I hope you’re enjoying your weekend and whatever activities you had planned.  And – that you’ve got a White Christmas coming (I mean – if that’s what you want!).  Looked like it might be a rainy Christmas for a lot of us!

My card today is a triple-Sneak-Peek from the new Jan – Apr 2024 Mini AND the Jan-Feb 2024 Sale-a-Bration catalogs!  It’s quite clean and simple but…has a fun surprise hidden away – thanks to the cool new Hooray for Surprises bundle (from the Jan – Apr 2024 Mini).  And the Sunny Days DSP – a free-with-qualifying-order during Sale-a-Bration is a perfectly plaid way to get it going.  Take a look-see:

This Hooray for Surprises is kind of a different kind of bundle  – the stamp set is pretty “normal” – but the die set makes little tear-away elements for your recipients – making for fun…surprises!  🙂

The long die, the two that look like “conversation bubbles” and the heart (with the little “tab bump”) – all cut a perforated edge.  You add “Pull” or “Open Here” (with a stamp from the set) and your recipient can reveal an image or sentiment that was hidden when he or she pulled it out of the envelope!

I started my card with a piece of plaid Petal Pink paper from the Sunny Days DSP – which you’re going to be able to get for FREE with a qualifying $50 order during Sale-a-Bration (4 Jan – 29 Feb 2024!).  I adhered it to the front of a Petal Pink card base with Liquid Glue.

The card front is a piece of Basic White cardstock matted on Berry Burst.

To make the art/sentiment – I used the largest square Stylish Shapes die to cut from the center of a 3 1/8″ x 3 1/8″ piece of Berry Burst cardstock – creating a frame.  I adhered the frame to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I cut two 3″ x 3″ pieces of Basic White cardstock and used the Hooray for Surprises heart die (the one with the little “tab bump”) to cut right out of the center of them both.

From one of them – I went ahead and removed the “cut out” heart center.  Then I placed that over the frame and used it as a guide.

Using that guide, I stamped the Hooray for Surprises sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink. It ended up being pretty much dead center in the frame.

I tucked that die cut “guide” right into the stamp case so I’d have it for another card!

And – with it in place – you can get an idea of what it looks like AFTER the “tab” is pulled!

Tip:  since you can’t really “pull the tabs” before sending your card off – making a mask is a great way to not only get things lined up – but it’ll give you a warm fuzzy that it’s looking how you want it to look!

I stamped “pull” – from Hooray for Surprises – in Pretty Peacock on the actual die cut square and then adhered it in place over the frame with Liquid Glue.

I wanted one more thank you-themed sentiment for this card and…I found it in the Wild Ferns set (also in the Jan – Apr 2024 Mini Catalog and available on 4 Jan!). Love the fonts!

I stamped Thank You near the bottom of the card front panel in Pretty Pecock Ink.

On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped the Hooray for Surprises flower in Berry Burst and cut it out with the coordinating die in the bundled die set.  I also cut out a Lost Lagoon and a Pretty Peacock leaf.

I popped the flower on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then tucked the leaves in with Liquid Glue.  A few Iridescent Foiled Gems (coming soon in the new Mini catalog) finished off the card front!

On the inside, I stamped the heart image from the Hooray for Surprises set in stamped-off-once Berry Burst on a Basic White panel.  Over the top, I stamped a second Hooray for Surprises sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Berry Burst mat and into my Petal Pink card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Hooray for Surprises flower in Berry Burst on the front…

…and a little more of the Sunny Days DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  How fun is this!?  Just another cool way to create interactive elements on your cards to bring smiles to your friends and family!  Hooray for Surprises IS a real surprise and I think you’ll have fun making cards using the different pull -tab elements!  I really like the fonts they used in the Wild Ferns set, too, don’ you?!?  And the Sunny Days DSP – beautiful AND FREE.  Wow – what’s not to love?!?

Finn Fan Fix

So yesterday was all about the “tech”.

My old phone finally decided that nope….just NOT going to charge.  Nope nope nope.

Thereby making it a VERY fancy…brick.

Ordered a new one – Costco went above and beyond and it arrived yesterday – instead of the promised 28 Dec.  Thank goodness – cuz…the old one was…yep.  It had totally bricked bricked itself while I slept – wouldn’t even turn on. 😳😳

So – with the help of Google, YouTube and the Verizon website – I proceeded to migrate my old phone info to the new one.  Easy peasy.

Except…part of the process wants your OLD phone to be…ON! 🤷‍♀️ Which effectively negates BOTH the easy AND the peasy!

I fought it for a while and then headed to the Verizon store.  And then to a SECOND Verizon store.

Where there was a “little wait”.

Got home at dark – hungry dog and HANGRY pony awaiting me.

And – I was not just a little done in myself, not gonna lie.  I am becoming less and less sanguine about this stuff as I get oh-so-gracefully older.

So – as Finn and I took that last walk around – I noticed the incredible beauty of the moon under a clear sky.

It was almost bright enough to not need a flashlight. I think it might have been God telling me to Just Calm Down. Which is real risky – unless you’re God. 😎

I figured I might as well see if the new iPhone camera lived up to the hype.

I particularly liked this one.

Copy that, God!

  1. I think this card is fascinating. Look at the beauty that came out of frustration with the dead phone! Yes, the new camera lived up to its hype. God is good! and even better at birthin’ babies 😉 Merry Christmas Eve Day!!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – He’s pretty good at that, for sure! Thank you so much, Karen! And Merry Christmas! 🙂

  2. Amy Koenders

Such a cool card! Love the little pull out window…definitely need to get this bundle! 🙂 Glad that you were able to get home after a “little wait” with a new phone in hand…the photos look pretty awesome! And happy charging. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – it’s such a luxury for it to just…connect and start charging!! :). Thanks very much, Amy – and Merry Christmas! 🙂

  3. Kate

One of “those” days…sanguinity in short supply for any of us on such days – settle for patience and perseverance. 😏
I would say the camera passed muster.
Blessed Christmas Eve to all from my snowy and beautiful Colorado mountain.

    • stampsnlingers

Yup – it was all used up by around…2:30! LOL! Thanks, Mom! Merry Christmas! 🙂

  4. Bonnie Kasjaka

Beautiful pictures of the night sky, trees, and moon! It’s amazing how God can speak to us through His beautiful creation. I see at times how I would have missed something special from the Lord, If I hadn’t experienced an inconvenience that slowed me down. God is good! Merry Christmas!

    • stampsnlingers

Yeah – it was a bit of a reminder, for sure! Thank you so much, Bonnie – and Merry Christmas! 🙂

  5. Sandra Warthen

Merry Christmas Mary. Your pictures are beautiful. Sorry about the old phone-I hate technology. Our church put a snow machine on the roof and we came out to a beautiful snow storm, complete with soft snow balls for the kids…almost like being home, only warmer. (First snow I’ve seen since 1995.

    • stampsnlingers

Snow in Florida – how fun is that!?! Thanks so much, Sandi!! Merry Christmas! 🙂

  6. Gail S.

Such a pretty card, Mary! But what really was neat was the “hidden” angle of it, nice and different from the usual. Really neat nighttime pictures, too. We’ve had sooooo many solid cloud cover nights, I was beginning to wonder if there really was a moon and stars above it all. As for phones, we have a landline! lol Apparently we’re just old (definitely not gracefully!). Have a Merry Christmas!

    • stampsnlingers

Sometimes I wish all I had was a landline. Except it’s not much use as a camera or map, so…🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ I guess I’m stuck fighting the tech! :). Thank you so much – and Merry Christmas, Gail! 🙂

    Merry Christmas, Mary!
