Finn Fan Fix

So….today’s Finn Fan Fix is not about Finn.

Instead – I am going to give you some learnin’.

Cuz I’m generous like that.

CAUTION: if you have an overwhelming fear of spiders….abort abort abort.  Scroll back up.

Still with me?

Meet…Argiope (pronounced “are GUY – o – pe”) aurantia.  AKA the Garden Argiope or Black and Yellow Argiope. Or…more poetically – the Golden Orb Weaver!

He (she?) wasn’t in the garden on Friday morning but had spun its web by the time we fed at dinner.

I kept trying to get a “better’ picture…thinking this was his/her bottom side.

No “face”.

Blurry.

Pretty good view of all the legs and stuff but…I was looking for a face.

It’s remarkably difficult to get a good photo with an iPhone camera when you’re too askeered to duck under the plants to get closer.  When you have to do full zoom on the telephoto – you gotta hold really still.  Apparently not my thing!

So – I gave up.

I googled him and discovered that Argiope aurantia actually means “guilded silver face”.  Which means that my first picture…

…WAS the picture I needed.

The things you learn!

So…he sort of looks like my ponies when they’re wearing their fly masks, don’t you think? 😉

Big belly and all! 😉

Yikes thank you for the lesson. Now I will know if they are looking me in the eye before they bite! What does Finn think of it?

    • stampsnlingers

Right? Freaky face, for sure! Finn didn’t even see him! Thankfully. He is NOT a fan of bugs!! 🙂

  2. Looking forward to your live video this evening! That is a pretty spider…if there is such a thing. As long as it’s outside, I’m all good with spiders. Not so much inside! 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – he is pretty! As long as I know where he is! 🙂 Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  3. Very entertaining and interesting. I love to look at spiders if they are pretty. If they are just black, brown or gray, forgeddaboutit! See you tonight.

    • stampsnlingers

Well – this one was definitely pretty!! Thanks, Karen! 🙂

oh my goodness….I am not a fan of spiders, even if they are doing something that is sorta good…..
How big was that guy…or girl…..
I got in the backseat of a friends car in Hawaii one time, looked toward the window to see a huge Cane spider that was at least 5 inches around. I ended up in the front seat!!

    • stampsnlingers

      Oh – heck no! THAT I couldn’t deal with! 😳😳😳 He/she wasn’t huge – 2 – 3 inches long, maybe! And I didn’t walk into the web or anything so I didn’t have to have a freak-out!! Thanks, Faith! 🙂

Oh, I can see the similarities to your ponies and the spider lololol
