Stampin’ Up! Big Wild Cats Triple-Twisted Easel Fun Fold with Video Tutorial

Well – the weekend is upon us again!  Do you have something fun planned for Father’s Day on Sunday?  Did you remember that it was Father’s Day on Sunday?? 😉

So – if you were able to join me yesterday for my YouTube live, I sure appreciate you spending part of your day with me!  If not, but you’d like to watch the replay to see how to make this fun fold card, here ’tis!

I first saw this Triple-Twisted Easel Fun fold on my Critters-N-Creatin’ Krew team page – one of my talented team mates had posted it and…I loved it!  So – I shamelessly “stole” the fun fold and went out and did some looking around on the interwebs to figure out how to make the base.  I found a good video from MayMay Made It Crafts – and that became the basis for my card.  🙂

I decided to use the cool Wild Cats bundle with the Big Cats Dies and some In The Wild DSP to create a 3-D jungle scene.  Take a look-see:

And – it fits nicely with the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge which is all about occasions! 🙂

I started by cutting an Early Evergreen cardbase – it’s 5 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ (a little shy of the “normal” size – so you may see this called an A2-ish sized card!).  I scored it at 4 1/4″ (as usual) – then used my Paper Trimmer to cut along the short side at 1 3/4″ and again at 3 1/2″.

Then I used the score blade to score three diagonal lines on the resulting strips.

I cut six 1 1/2″ x 4″ strips of In the Wild DSP – three each of two different designs, then used the Trimmer to create triangles.  Tip: take your time here and be sure that you’re cutting the triangles in the correct orientation (it matters!)  The video ‘splains how to do that a little better!

Then I used Liquid Glue to adhere the triangles to the card base.

I stamped several tropical plant images from Wild Cats in Evening Evergreen and a few in Soft Succulent (a couple full strength and one in stamped-off-once strength).  I cut them with the matching die in the Big Cats Die Set.  I also cut some cats from the In The Wild DSP and a few grasses in Crushed Curry and Merry Merlot.

The next step was to stamp the Wild Cats foliage in Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent on a Basic White panel. I matted the panel on Soft Succulent and adhered it to the inside of the card with Liquid Glue.

For the easel “stops”, I used Bumblebee Trinkets popped up on Mini Black Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I figured out where to put the trinkets by setting each “easel” how I wanted it and then adhering the trinkets on the inner liner.

Then it was time to decorate the front!  I used Liquid Glue to adhere all the die cut parts.  Tip:  be sure your die cuts don’t extend outside the bounds of your card front when the card is laying flat (like when you’re getting ready to put it in your Medium envelope)…

…And only use adhesive on the “front” facing triangles – otherwise…your easels won’t stand up!

Here’s a fun way to make the sentiment.  I stamped the Wild Cats sentiment in Crushed Curry on Basic White and cut it with a Tasteful Labels die.  At the same time, I cut the label a second time from the Basic White panel.  I cut a little strip of Window Sheet (or….use one of the saved sheets from one of your new photopolymer stamp sets – like…Wild Cats!).  I sandwiched this strip between the two die cut labels using Liquid Glue – then used that to tuck the sentiment into the scene.  That means it….”floats”!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got a stamped Wild Cat – his body is Crushed Curry and his stripes and face are Cajun Craze (these are three different stamps in the set).  Then I added some Evening Evergreen foliage…

…and a little more In The Wild DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  So…. Triple Twisted Easel – in A2-ish size!  What do you think??  I sort of LOVE IT!  I love having all that pop-y-up real estate to decorate and create a scene – like this tropical one from the Wild Cats stamp set and bundled Big Cats dies.  Also lots of space to showcase our gorgeous In The Wild DSP – or…whatever DSP suits YOUR pretty scene!!

I hope you like – and will try this fun fold soon!
