Stampin’ Up! Detailed Honey Bee Gate Card With Video Tutorial

Happy Friday!!  Hope you’ve had a good week – and are looking forward to the weekend!  Have you been perusing the Retired List in the online store?  If you haven’t….stop right here and go double check!  Here’s the link.

I’ll wait.

Good? Okay. 🙂

If you were able to join me for my YouTube video – I appreciate you spending some of your day with me!  If not, but you’d like to see the replay…here ’tis!

The card I made was heavily inspired by a card I saw on one of the SU! Demonstrator FB pages, created by June Dunn.  She thought way outside the box and saw…a hephalump’s badonkadonk in….the (Retiring) Honey Bee stamp set with the matching Detailed Bee Dies.  And it was adorable.  So…I made one of my own. Take a look-see:

I turned mine into a gate card fun fold and played along with the TGIF Challenge this week!

So…gate cards are seriously easy.  But they LOOK like they might be tricky – making your awesomeness-quotient very high when you give one of these to someone! 😉  Hang tight – here we go!

I started with a Smoky Slate card base at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and used my Simply Scored tool to score along the long side at 2 1/8″ and 6 3/8″.  Then I folded inwards at both score lines.  Boom.  Gate card.  Made.

I matted two pieces of Blushing Bride paper from the Subtles 6″ x 6″ DSP on Blushing Bride card stock and adhered them to the outside of each gate with Liquid Glue.

For the bellyband, I used a 1″ wide piece of Blushing Bride card stock – about 10″ long.  I wrapped it around the card, securing it in the front with Liquid Glue.

I cut the second-to-largest Stitched So Sweetly rectangle die in Whisper White and stamped a sentiment from the Honey Bee set in Blushing Bride.  Then I adhered it to the belly band with Liquid Glue.

I used my Stamparatus to stamp the Honey Bee hive (or skep…) in Basic Gray three times.  One of them, I cut with the die in the Detailed Bee set – that’s the badonkadonk.

The other two, I punched with the smooth-sided heart die from the (carrying over!) Heart Punch Pack.   From the third one, I fussy cut a “trunk”.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the trunk and ears (that were hearts just a hot second ago!) to the Stitched So Sweetly panel.  I popped the bee hive – which is now a hiney! – on with Stampin’ Dimensionals. 🙂

I cut a tiny flower from a scrap of Peaceful Poppies DSP using the little die from the Garden Gateway Dies (also carrying over – yeah!) and adhered it to the end of the trunk with Liquid Glue.

I made a little tassel from some Silver Metallic Thread and adhered it to…uh,hmmm…with a Glue Dot.  I tied a teensy bow from Whisper White Solid Baker’s Twine and added it with another Glue Dot.

Two Champagne Rhinestone Jewels – one on the bow and one on the flower – finished off the belly band (which is, really, the card front!).

On the inside, I stamped a second Honey Bee sentiment in Blushing Bride on a Whisper White panel.  I added the two flower images in Basic Gray – and colored the flowers with my Dark Petal Pink Stampin’ Blend.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Blushing Bride mat and into the card base – and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Honey Bee flowers on the front…

…and a little more Subtles 6″ x 6″ DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  How to make an elephant out of a bee hive.  Cool, huh?  The Honey Bee stamp set and matching Detailed Bee Dies are so sweet – and this will be your last opportunity to snap them up!

I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Finn has decided he wants to be a brand spokesmodel.

For…Thirty One!

I took a bunch of my totes to the grocery store with me the other day and used them to load and get my groceries home.

And once I got home and unloaded them, I found…

That’s the dog version of a Vanna White vowel-turning hand wave!

But…makes ya wanta tote, doesn’t it? 😉

Thanks so much, Sue – he definitely knows a good thing when he lays on it! 🙂

  3. This is SO adorable! I did go back and look at June’s card that was your inspiration but, frankly, I like yours better. I guess the first liar doesn’t have a chance. Like you, I would never have seen an elephant ‘beehind’ in a bee skep. I think it is a girl elephant because she is wearing lacy pantaloons. Right?
Finn would make a wonderful brand spokesperson. He certainly has the looks for it. Sorry I missed the live video. I just can’t get it in my head to tune in. Of course, I was mowing my yard anyway, but could have used an excuse to quit if I had remembered.

I think those ARE pantaloonies!! 😉 Thanks, Julie, for the kind words! I appreciate them very much! Glad you got your lawn mowed!! 🙂
