Stampin’ Up! Perfectly Wrapped in Plaid Pine Tree

Hey y’all – happy Hawwmp Day!

Wow – yesterday turned out WAY differently than I’d anticipated!  My PLAN was to get a couple of cards done and get the house picked up a bit.  I have a friend from my “old life” coming over this afternoon and I want to do some ribs and show her the place and maybe make a quick card with her.  And I wanted to do it in a clean house!

Instead…I spent the day with a friend at the hospital.  This past weekend, her dad had an appendectomy – not quite emergent, but….close! – at the age of almost 90!  So I went to the hospital today to help navigate and interpret and generally be the squeaky wheel.

I’m a pretty good squeaky wheel at the hospital – I know the lingo and the way things work.  So it was an easy thing to offer and do.  But – like all things associated with hospitals – it took….all…..day.

When I finally got home after 6 – with no card for today, no blog post for today, and – most critically – no dry-rubbed ribs, and no tidied up house!….well – I had to decide what to do.

And…I made a card! LOL!  THAT was easy and fun, so…I took the path I was going to LIKE!  And since I’d been plotting the card in my head all day, it came together quickly with the wunnermus Perfectly Plaid bundle and Wrapped In Plaid DSP!  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one comes from this week’s Global Design Project challenge.

I started with some pretty Wrapped in Plaid DSP and matted it on Cherry Cobbler for the card front.

Next, I wrapped some Linen Thread around the panel, securing it in the back with a couple of Glue Dots.

I embossed a small piece of Crumb Cake card stock in the Winter Knit 3D Embossing Folder, matted it on Cherry Cobbler and popped it over the Linen Thread with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

With the Pine Tree Punch (bundled with the Perfectly Plaid stamp set!), I punched a different Wrapped in Plaid DSP design and popped the tree on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On a strip of Crumb Cake, I stamped the Perfectly Plaid sentiment in Cherry Cobbler.  Then I added faux stitches with my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker and popped it onto the art panel with more Dimensionals.

I added a gold star from the Most Wonderful Time Product Medley to the top of the tree and the sentiment – and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a second Perfectly Plaid sentiment in Cherry Cobbler on a Whisper White panel, then used my Stamparatus to stamp the plaid tree in Shaded Spruce.  The tree also got another of the Most Wonderful Time gold stars!

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Cherry Cobbler mat and into my Crumb Cake card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another of the Shaded Spruce plaid trees on the front…

…and more of the Wrapped in Plaid DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  This is absolutely, positively one of my fave things in the Holiday catalog!  Perfectly Plaid is…well…PERFECT!  Especially when you add in the bundled Pine Tree Punch.  AND – if you pair it up with the awesome, wunnermus and amazingly beautiful Wrapped in Plaid DSP – well – you get Perfectly Piney Plaid Perfection!  I hope you like!

Purple Posy Ink To Be Discontinued Permanently

Stampin’ Up! provided us with an update about Purple Posy Inks.  Despite their efforts to resolve issues with Purple Posy ink, they’ve learned that the ink color is still shifting over time.

All of Stampin’ Up!’s exclusive ink colors are run through a vigorous series of tests to get ahead of challenges like this, and to ensure colors are accurate and meet our standards of coordination. Purple Posy DID pass regular testing standards in time-simulating ovens, but they’ve now identified that it fell short when it came to actual time passing. The color begins to shift once the ink has rested in the ink pad for about six weeks.

This means that the color isn’t coordinating with our other colors as strictly as SU! requires.  Due to these ongoing challenges, they’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue Purple Posy classic ink as of November 5, 2019.  The following items will no longer be available to purchase:

  • Purple Posy Classic Stampin’ Pad (item 150084)
  • Purple Posy Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill (item 150091)
  • 2019–2021 In Color Classic Stampin’ Pad Assortment (item 150087)

All other Purple Posy products (such as Purple Posy Stampin’ Write Marker, Purple Posy Cardstock, Purple Posy Stampin’ Blends, etc.) will remain available for purchase.

So – I know this is disappointing to many of you – but…I am actually pleased that SU! is taking this step.  One of the major draws of Stampin’ Up! products is the color coordination across the different products.  We can count on things matching up as we create!  And if Purple Posy isn’t “matching up” – then….this is the right thing to do!

Already purchased the ink pad a refill?  While Stampin’ Up! can’t replace Purple Posy ink pads for customers who’ve already received them, anyone with concerns regarding the color shifting properties of their Purple Posy ink pads may contact Demonstrator Support and receive a $7.50 coupon code as compensation. The coupon codes will expire on January 1, 2020.

Thanks for your understanding, y’all!

Finn Fan Fix

I was gone all day yesterday.  Truly – left around 10 and didn’t get home until after 6.

Wayne told me Finn wondered where I was all day.

Guess he figured maybe I’d gone away again.

  1. What a pretty card! Love the clean design and the mix of designer papers is perfect! Poor Finn…bet he was extra glad when you returned before he went to bed. Typical kid. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

He was pretty happy, for sure! Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  2. Cleaning is over rated but making a card takes the trick! I’m sure your support at the horsepistol was well appreciated even though it caused Finn a little angst. Love that plaid DSP.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Karen. “Horsepistol”. Haven’t heard THAT in FOREVER!! 🙂

  3. Gerri K

Hey Mary! I saw a video on a SU Facebook Page with 100 top Global Demonstrators and there you were. The first name shown at #100. Congratulations! Very cool!
Beautiful plaid card today. I think that might be my favorite dsp this year.
Finn looks so sad. He must be thinking “Here we go again”.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Gerri – it was exciting! Appreciate the support and kind words. And yes – I’m afraid he was resigned to me being gone! 🙁

  4. Poor baby! I suppose my cat is like that when I am gone, though she is too old to jump up and look out the window these days.
Hey, Kiddo! You are a girl after my own heart. Love the card, the plaid, the knit look. How cozy! I hope your friend’s dad is doing well. Bless you for being her squeaky wheel.

  5. Debra S Anderson

Kudos to you for being a good friend. I am sure your friend at the hospital was blessed to have you with her. Your other friend is coming to see you, not your house. Our relationships and spending time together are what is important. Make a card (or two) and order pizza! It’s a Win-Win!

    • stampsnlingers

You are right – the house wasn’t perfect – but we had a really nice lunch out and Wayne smoked the ribs to perfection! It was a lovely day catching up with an old friend! Thank you so much! 🙂

  6. Lisa A Crosby

I hope you friend’s dad was ok and that everything went well. Also, you make beautiful cards but I also think you would be a great writer! I always look forward to reading your emails/posts. Poor Finn. I bet he was so happy when you got home. Have a great day!

    • stampsnlingers

He’s on the mend, I think – thank you so much, Lisa!! Finn was happy, for sure. Thanks for the kind words – I love that you enjoy my blogs!! 🙂

  7. Faith Simpson

    Hi Mary,
That is truly a great card….and one I will copy!!
BLESS YOU for being such a great friend to your friend……everyone needs a friend like you.
Bet Finn was overjoyed when you got home.
I’m sure today will be just fine…..your friend will love being there, with or without ribs…….and she won’t even notice doggy toys everywhere (smile).

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much for the kind words, Faith – I really appreciate it! We DID have a lovely day! It was so good to see her!

  8. I adore the mix of patterns here, Mary! There’s nothing quite like making a card after a really long day. ♥ Thanks for playing along with this week’s Global Design Project challenge!
