Stampin’ Up! Rustic Retreat Birthday Cabin

Happy Tuesday and happy October!  WOWZA – can you even believe that??

This is a big day because, in the world of Stampin’ Up! – like the government! – this is the start of a new year for us!  I want to thank you ALL for such a wonderful 2018-2019!!  Y’all have made so many things possible for me – like a trip to Greece and Maui next summer!! – and helped my little SU! business grow in more ways than I could have imagined – and…I want to thank you for all of that!!  You.  Guys.  Are.  AWESOME!! And we’re going to celebrate some this month! Yes – that was a little foreshadowing! 🙂

Now – my card today is a celebration of….birthdays!  I used the beautiful Rustic Retreat stamp set and some Wrapped in Plaid DSP.  It was a little challenge keeping it from being a Christmas Card.  Take a look-see:

Yeah.  I see it.  Change up that sentiment and….Christmas!  You’re welcome – multi-use card! 😉

The layout for this one is from this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge.

I started with some of the wonderful Wrapped In Plaid DSP and matted it on Shaded Spruce for the card front.

The art is from the Rustic Retreat stamp set and is stamped on Very Vanilla in Early Espresso Ink.  Then I used my Blender Pen to color the image – using ink from the lids of my Shaded Spruce (trees), Soft Suede (log siding), Gray Granite (fireplace), Pool Party (sky), Crumb Cake (ground) and Silvery Shimmer Delicata Ink (roof).

I cut the image with an Ovals Layering Die and adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.  Using a Stitched Shapes oval die and a smooth-sided Ovals Layering Die, I made an Early Espresso frame and adhered it – also with Liquid Glue.

My pine elements are from the Beautiful Boughs Die set, cut from Shaded Spruce.  I adhered them to the card front with Liquid Glue – letting them spill off the edge of the card front just a smidge!

I adhered a Tags & Feathers Element tag with Liquid Glue.

Next to the tag is a Linen Thread double-loop bow.  TIP: this bow is only wrapped twice around four fingers and twice around two fingers.  My usual double-loop bows are wrapped four times… 🙂  I adhered the bow with some Liquid Glue.

The sentiment, from Rustic Retreat, is stamped on a strip of Very Vanilla in Cherry Cobbler.  I snipped banner ends and added some Early Espresso faux stitches with a Stampin’ Write Marker.

I added a Shaded Spruce gem from the Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels and the card front was done!

On the inside, I added some Rustic Retreat pine boughs in Shaded Spruce on a Very Vanilla panel, then added a Cherry Cobbler Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewel.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Shaded Spruce mat and into my Early Espresso card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got more Rustic Retreat pine boughs on the front….I’m not sure how this card is going to go out, so I didn’t add a jewel yet (if you’re going to hand deliver or put it in a package with a gift, then…by all means – I would absolutely add a Cherry Cobbler Holiday Rhinestone!)…

…and I added more of the Wrapped In Plaid DSP to the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  Plaid.  Cabin.  Pines.  Yup – Rustic Retreat paired with Wrapped In Plaid is a perfect match!  I love this – and love that it can be NOT-Christmas!  I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

We decided we’d better try to do something to start Finn-y on a down-trend in the weight department. 🙂

Cauliflower Rice – bust.

Broccoli – Fail.

So…

As I type on Monday evening, the jury is still out.  With any luck, Katy will figure out the route she needs to take to get to the food bowls.  My attempt to pick her up and “show” her were met with…disdain.  And the what-in-the-WORLD-are-you-DOING look!

Finn was also a little disgusted.  Hmmmph.  His words – not mine!

  1. Love your card! The layering is perfect and the woodgrain tag is awesome! I am sure that Finn would be happy to show the kitty how to get in to her food…if you’d just move a few things so that he could get past that gate… 😉

    • stampsnlingers

I’m actually surprised he hasn’t tried harder to figure it out! Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  2. Perfect card for someone with an upcoming birthday, male or female. What’s not to love about plaid and a rustic cabin!

    • stampsnlingers

Gosh – do we KNOW anyone like that?!? 🙂 Thanks, Karen! 😉

  3. Gale S.

Love, love, love Rustic Retreat and your take on it! I think it is going to be a “sleeper” set. It has just enough coloring to make one feel like an artist. Never thought of using the Delicata ink for coloring!

    • stampsnlingers

Yup – juts picked it up directly from the ink pad! And yes – it’s kind of a flyover set – and it shouldn’t be! Thanks much, Gale!! 🙂

  4. Beth

Our labradoodle cutting back on dog food. Vet said use green beans as s filler. She seems to like them.

    • stampsnlingers

Huh. Would not have thought your dog – or any dog, for that matter! – would care for green beans! But….glad it’s working! We’ve tried canned pumpkin – which actually does meet with his approval! 🙂 Thanks!

  5. Of course, it goes without saying that I LOVE this card. Everything about it. At this point in my life I will never own the cabin in the woods, but I can dream, and remember the times spent with family in such a cabin in Canada every summer. Perfect plaid, wood element, coloring, perfect all around!
Green beans? Pumpkin? for a dog? And whoever heard of cauliflower rice?? The gate makes much more sense.

My Mom lives in such, so I think this will be great for her birthday coming up! You and she would get along very well! 🙂 Cauliflower Rice…my saving grace this past couple of years. It – and broccoli – factor HUGELY in my weight loss success! Not such a good fit for dogs, though! 😉

  6. Eunice Stoneman

What a great idea for a fall/winter Birthday! Love it. Have you tried putting her food dish in a box with the open end angled against the wall or a hole cut into it? Not as invasive to your lifestyle as the gates. That would only last an hour or so at our place because my Hubby would get tired of it.

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Eunice! I love this set! Fortunately the gates are at the end of the living room – very little invasiveness in the big scheme of things. And – she has three automatic feed bowls – so I’d have to have a LOT of boxes!! 🙂
