Stampin’ Up! Come Sail Away North Sneak Peek For the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Hey y’all – it’s Thursday, so it’s time for another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!!  Today’s Hop is a sketch challenge and I’m excited to see what everyone comes up with –  I just know you’re going to see a ton of awesome-ness on the hop!

I fell in love with the Come Sail Away Suite of goodies when I made my samples and presentation for OnStage this past April!  And when I saw today’s sketch challenge, my brain saw the lighthouse in the vertical element.  So I pulled the Sailing Home stamp set and bundled Smooth Sailing Dies out and…take a look-see:

And here’s the sketch – which I turned on its side!

I started with some pretty Mossy Meadow striped paper from the Come Sail Away DSP pack and matted it on Soft Suede for the card front.  I also matted a second smaller DSP panel on Soft Suede and added it to the card front with Liquid Glue.  Then, I wrapped a piece of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon around the panel – securing it in the back with Glue Dots.

I cut two “rope” lengths from Soft Suede – this is a cool die from Smooth Sailing – and adhered them with Liquid Glue.

On a Whisper White panel, I stamped the compass image from Sailing Home multiple times in Soft Suede, cut it with a Stitched Shapes Framelits circle and popped it onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped the aforementioned lighthouse in Soft Suede on Whisper White then used a Blender Pen and ink from the lid of my Mossy Meadow ink pad to lightly color it.  I cut it with the matching Smooth Sailing Die and adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I stamped the Sailing Home sentiment in Mossy Meadow on a bannerized (with Paper Snips!) strip of Whisper White.  Then I added faux stitches with my Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker and used a Dimensional and Liquid Glue to adhere it.

I cut the two compass needle pieces from the Smooth Sailing Dies – the larger in Soft Suede and the finer needle in Mossy Meadow and adhered them to the middle compass rose pointing…North.  I colored a Pearl Basic Jewel with my Bronze Stampin’ Blend and stuck it in the middle of the needle.

To make the “antique bronze” trinkets – from the silver Sail Away Trinkets – I first colored them with my Bronze Stampin’ Blend.  When the ink was dry, I lightly touched here and there with my Light Basic Black Blend.  Worked great!  I used a Glue Dot to adhere the wheel under the sentiment.  Then I added a “lanyard” of Mossy Meadow (from the Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo Pack coming on 4 June) and Old Olive Linen Threads and adhered the anchor with another Glue Dot – and that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I added the Sailing Home compass image in Soft Suede in the corner of a Whisper White panel.   On the middle compass, I added a die cut “needle” in Soft Suede and Mossy Meadow – adding a Bronzed Pearl Basic Jewel to the middle.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Soft Suede mat and into my Thick Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Sailing Home compasses in Soft Suede on the front…

…and some more of the shipping chart image from the Come Sail Away DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Boy oh boy – this Come Sail Away Suite is just….amazing!  Don’t you think?!?  I just love it – and think there are so many possible projects to make using the wonderful images and sentiments.  And…the paper.  The PAPER!!  Wow!  I hope you like!

  6. Jaimie

I love how you turned the sketch on its side. Great card – love all the details and your color scheme.

  7. Kathy H (Maryland)

OMG, Mary, this is beautiful!! I love how you “antiqued” the ship’s wheel trinket. And the rope die cut– I didn’t realize there was a die for that– I thought you used a piece from the Memories and More pack. This is my favorite of all the Sailing Home cards you’ve created.

    • stampsnlingers

Awww – you are very kind, Kathy! Yes, it’s an awesome set – stamp set, dies, DSP! 🙂

  8. Susan K

Such a classic Mary card–meaning those layers are awesome. I love the offsetting rope pieces. You own this set completely!

  9. I think it has all been said, but I am still going to add my 2 cents worth. Agree with floridaperson that you should have entered it in a challenge. It would win hands down. Another stunning, gorgeous Mary card! God Speed your journey home.
