Happy Hawwmp Day, y’all! This post is coming to you from somewhere out in the Pacific! It’s Day 6 for us and we’re sailing quick-smart towards Victoria B.C! Hard to believe it’s almost over.
We had two wonderful days in Juneau and Skagway and I wanted to just share some of the fun with you!
We arrived in Alaska early on Sunday morning – I did post some pictures of that on my Facebook page.
The mountains greeted us as we made our way into Juneau and then….it was off to the races!
We hiked a bit to get into town to do a little exploring, keeping an eye on the clock so we wouldn’t miss our 5-Glacier Float Plane tour! Which, by the way, was totally amazing! I’ve never been in a float plane and I confess to a little trepidation. One engine. Whaaaaa?!?
But, our pilot was excellent – obviously very very experienced in the plane and the flying environment. So once we took off, it was all about the sights! And man, what sights there were!
All too soon we were turning right base and lining up on the “runway”…
We all agreed we’d turn right around and do it again – but…we had to move on! It was time for crab legs at Tracy’s Crab Shack – touting “the best legs in town”. And they were mighty fine, indeed!
In the evening, we joined a group for a whale watching excursion and got lucky! We saw a pod of eight Orcas – including two calves (aka babies!)…
And we also saw a local celeb – a lovely Humpback named Flame!
She’s already been filmed by the paparazzi, so that’s how we knew it was her! She’s fourth from the left at the top! 🙂 Turns out the markings on their tails are very very useful for identifying the Stars of the Deep!
Then it was time for bed – and moon trails!

I LOVE float plane flying. Would take that ANY day over a commercial jet. (daughter dated a float plane pilot, so I got lots of rides. And, one of the lakes we fished in Canada could only be reached by float plane.) That’s flying.
Yes – it was amazing. I’d love to try it from the front seat one day!! 🙂
