Stampin’ Up! Magical Mermaid Tranquil Textures Fun Fold Card

Good morning, y’all!  And – even though it’s Monday, it’s REALLY still the weekend – so….it really is a HAPPY MONDAY!

If you were able to join me last night on my Facebook Live video, I sure appreciate you spending part of your holiday weekend with me.  If not – but would like to see how to make this fun-fold card – here’s the video for you on YouTube!

Fair warning – my directions in this blog post aren’t going to be terribly detailed – it’s a heckuva lot easier to show this kind of card than to tell you how to do it!

Which makes you think it’s hard.

But it isn’t.

Just doesn’t lend itself too efficiently to the written directions format! 🙂

So – this is a bridge card that I made with the Magical Mermaid stamp set (carrying over) and the goodies in the new Tranquil Textures Suite – specifically the Sea of Textures stamp set and bundled Under the Sea Framelits, plus the gorgeous Tranquil Textures DSP.  Take a look-see:

There are quite a few tutorials out on YouTube for this fold – the one that gave me the basis for this card is from Jenny Hall.  You can check it out right here!

I started with a Fresh Fig card base – 4 1/4″ x 8″ – scored at 1 1/4″ and 2 1/2″ from each short end – then folded in a “Z”.

The Tranquil Textures DSP – in two different designs – is matted on Soft Sea Foam with Liquid Glue and then adhered to the card base.  Then it’s time for the fun stuff – decorating! 🙂

I heat embossed the Magical Mermaid mermaid in Gold on Whisper White.  Her tail is colored with Tranquil Tide and Balmy Blue Stampin’ Write Markers.  Hair in So Saffron.  Then I used my Ivory Stampin’ Blend – they’re back in stock, y’all!!! – to color her torso.  I did a quick fussy cut and adhered her to the edge of the Z-fold with Liquid Glue.

I cut several elements using the Under the Sea Framelits in Tranquil Textures DSP (the net in the background), Fresh Fig, Soft Sea Foam and Balmy Blue card stocks.  The golden octopus in the background is also from the Sea of Textures set – heat embossed in Gold and cut with the matching Under the Sea Framelits die.

I cut a strip of Soft Sea Foam for the middle elements…you can see it in this picture…and adhered it to the card base with a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive.

I adhered the net with Liquid Glue and then popped the octopus and Soft Sea Foam sand dollar on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I used Liquid Glue to add more of the elements to create the vignette.

For the front Bridge strip – I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig (you’ve only got a few days left to get one!!) – to stamp the border image from Magical Mermaid in Fresh Fig on a Soft Sea Foam  Tranquil Textures DSP strip.  Then I adhered it to a Soft Sea Foam mat and a Fresh Fig strip.  I created the “bridge” by adhering one end at a time to the card front with Tear & Tape Adhesive.

My sentiment, from Magical Mermaid, is stamped in Fresh Fig on a Whisper White strip, bannerized on one end and edged with my Fresh Fig Stampin’ Write Marker.

I adhered a few sea grasses to one end of the “bridge” with Liquid Glue, then added the sentiment and final embellishments.

On the back of the card, I stamped a sea grass image from Magical Mermaid on a Whisper White mat in stamped-off-once Soft Sea Foam.  I added a Balmy Blue sea grass die cut from Under the Sea.

I matted the panel on Soft Sea Foam and adhered it to the back of the card to create a spot for a handwritten message and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope (yep – this fold will fit in a regular envelope!) got a Soft Sea Foam sea-grass from Magical Mermaid on the front…

…and I added some more of the beautiful Tranquil Textures DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Folks – this is not a hard card to make.  The fold itself is easy-peasy.  Really.  Decorating it is so much fun – it’s like creating a little diorama!!  It does take a little time, no doubt – and you might not do one every day – but…so worth it for a special card for a special someone!  And – the Sea of Textures and bundled Under the Sea Framelits are really perfect for it – plus…Magical Mermaid!  What fun!  I hope you like – and will try this one for yourself!

All cultures have a way to signal compliments to the chef.

In the south (apparently) a hearty belch proclaims the highest of kudos!  That seems to be mostly from men… 😉

But – what if you’re a piggly-wiggly?

How to tell the chef that you were pleased with the vittles?

Easy.

You neatly tip your plate before pigglying away to continue your piggy doings.

It’s also a handy way for your new Mom to know you’ve come and eaten the meal she slaved over.  And give her one less thing to stress over! 😉

  2. That card is simply amazing Mary! Love this design and your mixing of the two stamp sets is perfect! Glad that Wilbur is happy with his piggy treats/meals too. 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks – they’re fun to make every once in a while! Like…a really elaborate cake! 🙂

  3. Ellie Peckler

Mary, although I couldn’t watch last night, you can bet I will watch the replay today. STUNNING card. And your piggly-wiggly friend is one smart pig to pick you as a surrogate mom. Have a peaceful Memorial Day and thank you for your service. – Ellie

It was my honor and pleasure, Ellie! Thanks for the kind words – enjoy the video! 🙂

  4. Kate

Hope it was Wilbur who ate it…;)

  5. I was sorry I had to leave you last night but you know all about when sunsets call your name and so does your husband 🙂 I will watch the video later today as I just love all the elements you put together. I watched Jenny’s video awhile ago and made a card but I don’t even remember what it was. Hopefully I tagged it on my blog. Loved the Wilbur story today.

Thanks, Karen – hope you enjoy the video! And glad you and Perry got some quality sunset time last night! 🙂

This is one absolutely, totally amazing card. I watched in awe as it came together, (and laughed at the comments scrolling by!) Your combined card in a box and bridge fold is a great idea and one of my favorites of all your wonderful creations. Ah, to be so creative! Wilbur says great job on the food too–his equivalent of a tip of the hat. Happy Memorial Day and thanks again to you and Wayne.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Susan – so glad that you enjoyed it! Hope you’ll give one a try soon. 🙂

  7. You crack me up!! But even with LOTS of challenges this card is THE BOMB!!! Fabuloso! Yes, “bamboozled ” is the right description of my feelings regarding any “fun fancy fold” (same feeling as “huge hairy spider”). You have truly inspired me to try this great card. Thanks.

    • stampsnlingers

Oh good! I do hope you’ll try one – they really are pretty easy once you know the recipe! And so much fun to decorate! 🙂 Thanks so much, Sharon! 🙂

  8. Elisha Smith

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Elisha! Appreciate the kind words! 🙂
