Stampin’ Up! Just Add Color and Feathers Together!

Happy Happy HAPPY Friday!  Yes – I’m really really REALLY glad that it’s Friday!

And already dreading the arrival of Sunday afternoon…cuz then it’s like a blink and it’ll be Monday.

Unlike the lucky lady in Massachusetts, I didn’t win a bazillion dollars on Thursday, so…work, baby.  Work. 😉

But – at least on Monday I’m not getting a total knee replacement, unlike my friend Len.  He IS!  Yuk! 🙁

So, I thought I’d make a little card for him.  Not a get well card – but a Thinking of You card.  And I pulled out some fun DSP and the Feather Together stamp set to do it.  Take a look-see:

Just Add Color Feather Together - Stamps-N-Lingers 4

The layout hails loosely from the August sketch challenge at Viva La Verve.

And I selected the Just Add Color Specialty DSP to play along with the challenge at The Paper Players.

And my color scheme came from the Global Design Project Color Challenge.

Now – some of you may be thinking this isn’t quite masculine enough to send to a guy.  I actually think that it’s kind of gender-neutral.  Now – if I’d used the Flirty Flamingo as a more central color, then…yes.  You’d be right.

As it is….you’re just wrong! 😉

I started with a piece of the Pick A Pattern DSP – and colored a few of the white blocks with my Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay and Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Write Markers.  I matted it on a piece of Bermuda Bay card stock for the card front.  For the middle element of the sketch, I ran a length of Night of Navy 5/8″ Crinkled Seam Binding around and secured it in the back with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

My middle panel is a Whisper White rectangle that I embossed in the Garden Trellis TIEF and adhered, with the DEbossed side up, on a Bermuda Bay mat and Fast Fuse’d to the card front.

My feathers are part of the Just Add Color Specialty DSP.  I fussy cut the three I wanted and then colored them in.  I used the Flirty Flamingo, Bermuda Bay and Night of Navy markers again – and I also used the Bermuda Bay Watercolor Pencil on the two smaller feathers.  You can see I made some extra “stripes” just by coloring harder!

Just Add Color Feather Together - Stamps-N-Lingers 3

I used some Liquid Glue to adhere the three feathers to my white panel.

The sentiment, from the Feather Together stamp set, is stamped in Night of Navy on a piece of Whisper White card stock, and cut out with my 1 3/4″ Circle Punch.  It’s matted on a scalloped Bermuda Bay circle – cut with my Circles Layering Framelits.  Then I popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Just Add Color Feather Together - Stamps-N-Lingers 2

I added a Bermuda Bay heart Enamel Shape to the circle and a few dots to the card front and it was done!

On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Feather Together on a Whisper White panel.  Over the top, I stamped the multi-stamp feather image from Feather Together.  I used stamped-off-once Bermuda Bay for each step to make the completed feather.

Just Add Color Feather Together - Stamps-N-Lingers 5

I added a Night of Navy heart Enamel Shape, Fast Fuse’d it to a Bermuda Bay mat and into my Night of Navy card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another Bermuda Bay feather – this time I didn’t stamp it off.  See the difference?  Which one do you like better??

Just Add Color Feather Together - Stamps-N-Lingers 6

And I added some more of the Pick a Pattern DSP to the envelope flap – again coloring it with my Stampin’ Write Markers.

Et Voila!  It doesn’t scream DUDE, nor does it scream GET WELL!  But it does scream I CARE!!  And I like how the feathers from the Just Add Color DSP and the Feather Together stamp set worked so well on this card, all atop some black-and-white Pick a Pattern DSP (that I made a little less black-and-white!!).  Hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix

The other day Wayne started some dirt work behind the house.  (Fingers crossed that he’ll finish said dirt work…)

Finn is in dog heaven.  He’s pretty confident that his dad built a sandpile playground just for him!

He races up and banks off the top and then slide/runs back down.

And if he’s got his bumper….even better.

Now – if the dad would just add a nice little water feature…to help him keep cool so he can play longer…that would be super!!

  1. Great card! That color scheme works perfectly with your design…you are right, it does work for a guy card with just touches of pink. 🙂 Hope that Finn and Wayne have fun digging/playing in the dirt!

    • Thanks, Amy! I hope he gets a smile from it – and that it’s not just the pain meds… 😉 Men/dogs/dirt – of course they’ll have fun! 🙂

  2. Well, this card just tickles my fancy…what is that anyway? Les, will like and hope all goes well for him and he does his therapy!

  3. Great card and your coloring is outstanding! I think feathers run a close second behind leaves for me.
You are so right, men, dogs, dirt! Add a machine and they are in heaven.

    • Oh – we got machines!! So…they’re set! I do like this Feather Together set – it’s got beautiful sentiments and fonts. Thanks much, Julie! 🙂

  4. Ellie Peckler

Mary, what a great gender-neutral card to let your friend know you care. You are so talented and your recipients are lucky folks indeed! Have a great weekend. – Ellie

  5. Kate

Hmmm. Guess my comment is in cyber-space. Or not.
    Great card…

    • Hey Mom – I’ve got comment moderation on, so comments aren’t visible until I go in and approved them! So – sort of in cyber-space. Only not! Thanks much! 🙂

  6. What a great card!!! I agree it is gender nuetral. I always struggle with that when I make cards. I always want to make them so girly!!!.

  7. Mary, this is just fabulous! I love the gorgeous feathers. Love the DSP and the envelope, too! SO happy you joined us at The Paper Players this week! XX

  8. Your trio of feathers would make a great gender neutral card Mary – love those colours. Thanks for sharing your card in my CAS colouring challenge over at The Paper Players this week!

  9. Susan K

I’ve never been big on feathers but might rethink them, esp for gender-neutral cards. This is super cute and the sentiments are perfect for your purposes–and many others. TFS

    • Agreed, Susan – this is one of those flip-past stamp sets, I think. But…worth a second look. I love the fonts! Thanks so much! 🙂

  10. Oh, I just love those feathers! So much texture, too. Just lovely. So glad you could join us for Viva la Verve!
