Stampin’ Up! Sorry For Everything on a Whole Lot of Lovely

Good morning, y’all.  It’s Tuesday – and there’s exactly one week left in the month of July.  Which means there’s exactly one week left to…earn Bonus Days coupons and (more importantly!!) join us in Stampin’ Up! and cash in on the additional $72 in free goodies in the Essentials Pack.  Folks – really, now.  Do not miss this.  If I told you that you had to sign a 2 year contract with Stampin’ Up! – that would be one thing.  But all these free goodies…and at least a 20% discount…AND you can quit anytime?  Come on!  Not jumping on that is just…cray cray!! 🙂

My card for today is a pretty one – but for a sad occasion.  My friend’s friend lost her yellow lab recently.  So…an appropriate card was requested!  I used my usual non-Stampin’ Up! dog stamp and combined it wth the new Sorry For Everything stamp set and the oh-so-lovely Whole Lot of Lovely DSP.  Take a look-see:

As you can see, I opted for a no-sentiment card front.  Hold yer horses – the inside says it all!

I started with a piece of the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP and matted it on a piece of Crushed Curry for the card front.

The middle panel is a square of Whisper White card stock.  I lightly sponged it with Pool Party, then used the cloud stencil in the Pattern Party Mask set to add clouds with Embossing Paste.  When it dried, I matted the square on Crushed Curry and then Fast Fuse’d it to the card front.

I stamped my yellow lab in Crushed Curry on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Using my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush, I pulled color out into the image.  I barely touched the tip of the brush in my Crumb Cake ink pad lid and added it to the eyes and nose.  Then I fussy cut him.

I also fussy cut some flowers and leaves from my favorite paper in the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP.  And – I pulled about 4 pieces of Burlap “thread” from some of my 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon.  I used a few Glue Dots to wind the burlap thread around, then layered my fussy cut flowers with a few pieces from the new Touches of Nature Elements.  And I nestled my dog in the middle of the bower of flowers.  I used a combination of Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals to create my little “picture”.

On the inside, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to align and stamp the large sentiment from Sorry For Everything in Basic Gray Archival Ink in the middle of a Whisper White panel.  I added two more images from the set, in stamped-off-once Tangerine Tango, above and below, also using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig.  I added my yellow lab again, in Crushed Curry – this time giving him a tiny halo with my Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker.  Finally, I sponged the top of the panel in Pool Party and added some more Embossing Paste clouds.

I matted the panel on Crushed Curry and Fast Fuse’d it into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

On the front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I added a third yellow lab with a halo…

…and gave the envelope flap another little splash of color from the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP.

Et Voila!  I hate that anyone ever needs this kind of card to come to them, but I always hope it will bring a smile – even if it’s touched with tears.  I hope that will be the case with this one, and…I hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix

Okay you guys.

This is going to be hard for you to see.

Finn had a bit of a run-in with a flying thing today.

He hates flying things.

And – now he knows why!

He and his dad were clearing off the wash-rack in the barn (Finn might not have been so eager to help if he’d realized that he was going to be a customer of said wash rack…).  Wayne picked up a tarp and out came….pissed off sweat bees!

Lots of them.

Wayne hightailed it out of there – calling Finn with him.

Finn failed to follow instructions.

And he got stung! 🙁 🙁 🙁

Just once.  But it was right on the side of his schnoozle!

See the swelling on the left side of his muzzle?  It did actually spread up his face later in the day.

We called the vet and gave him a couple of Benadryl per their instructions.  And….

We watched him really closely all day to be sure the swelling didn’t get up into his wind pipe.  But…it didn’t.

He’s recovering nicely.

But…he’s more convinced than ever that flying things are…bad.  Bad bad bad.

Poor little freckley faced puppy! 🙁

I think the Daisy set is popular because daisies are summertime flowers and the punch is a great way to make a quick card with lots of impact.

    • Yes indeed – I love punches in the first place, and when it punches a big, bold and beautiful flower like this one? Instant popularity contest winner! Thanks much, Elaine – and good luck in the draw!

  2. Awww, what a sweet card. I love the layering around the cute puppy image. And the halo of your dog inside is perfect. And what a sad day for Finn too! Bummer on the sting, glad that he’s recovering quickly!

    • Yes, frozen Riced Cauliflower, two Benadryl and lots of nose kisses. Just the ticket to speed recovery! Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  3. Poor Finn! He looks so sad.
Your card is beautiful as is the sentiment. It will bring tears for sure, but no doubt about it, there will be a smile too. And, it will be kept by the recipient. ‘Nuff said.

    • He can definitely put the sad face on – but in this instance, he really wasn’t very happy! 🙁 Thank you so much, Julie – I was pretty happy with the end result! 🙂

  4. Ah, Mary, this card touches my heart deeply. Your friend’s friend will treasure it. My family is big into golden retrievers, spaniels, labradors and shepherds. The dog stamp is beautiful. Have you had it for a long time. I had done a search a while back when our friends in Suwannee lost their lab but I didn’t find one like that. Your card is absolutely stunning and well put together. Sorry poor Finn got stung…thankfully only once. How’s that hot spot doin’? I am reading a book at the moment called Rescuing Finley. The dog thinks aloud to the reader 🙂 It’s quite enjoyable although the first part is a tad sad….I know it’s a redemptive story so the middle and end should be uplifting.

    • Thanks so much, Karen – I was pleased with how it turned out! You know, I HAVE had that one for several years now. And I can’t remember if I got it at Michaels (pretty likely since I could have gone and gotten it on the same day I was asked for the first “lab” card!) or Amazon. Try Micheals first! I’m hoping the lesson Finn learned is don’t try to chase and eat flying things. I fear he learned…don’t go over by the wash rack! 🙂 Hoep you enjoy your read! 🙂

  5. Susan Phillips

Wow, I just signed up for your posts. Two days, two fantastic cards. Thank you. Imade yesterday’s card, it turned out so good. My husband was impressed ❤

    • Oh thank you for following me, Susan! And so glad that I was able to give you two good ones! Great job making the card and impressing your husband! Whoo-hooo! 🙂

  6. Kate Stockman

Your cards just amaze me! This card is a keeper for many reasons.
I think the Daisy Set is the perfect summer set. The DSP paper “makes”
every card used with the Daisy punch. Thanks for sharing all your
beautiful cards. Poor Finn–hope he’s feeling better today.

    • Thanks so much, Kate – that’s so sweet of you to say! And he is – his schnoozle is all back to regular! 🙂

  7. Debra Anderson

Beautiful card for a very sad occasion.
I can’t believe Finn stood still for you to hold that frosty veggie to his poor little injured snoozola.
He may be avoiding the barn for awhile.

  8. Beautiful card, the fussy cut flowers are awesome and the pup in the middle is so sweet. I know the recipients will be sad, but will appreciate you going the extra mile on this card-especially the inside! Once a dog of ours got stung and he almost died, had to rush him to the emergency vet and get a shot! Scary, and then we always had an epi-pen handy. Poor Finn!

    • We had a GSD that had a similar issue. But he snapped at a wasp and it bit him inside his mouth. I will say we kept a pretty close eye on Finn watching for a anaphylactic reaction! Thanks so much for the nice words about the card, Jari! 🙂

  9. Kate

Oh…poor Finny! Life is fraught with peril, and, if I may be so bold, especially so in his locale. So glad no worse than it was. Wonder if he made the connection to come when called, because it’s not just an exercise for a treat. Hope so!!! Good to have that benadryl on hand. 😕
Your card is beautiful, and will be cherished as was the lost lab.

  10. Sandra Warthen

Such a pretty card for such a sad occasion. Loosing a pet is so devastating.

  11. Paula Poindexter

Oh my gosh! Poor Finn! How can such a tiny bee like that cause so much trouble and pain?

Your card is so lovely, well balanced. And looks to be a ton of work. I would frame it if I received it!
Thanks for the inspiration. Have a better day today.

    • Right?? Hard to imagine – but it sure did. Not as much work as it looks like – which you gotta love, right!! Thanks so much, Paula!! 🙂

  12. RitaR

Your card touched my heart and I think it will be a great comfort to the recipient! Nestling the Lab among the beautiful blossoms was such a sweet idea! Really like the embossed clouds in your design and especially love the halo you added on the inside! Our pup, Buddy, was chasing a bee this morning …. after seeing what happened to Finn, I must watch that Buddy doesn’t get stung. So glad that Finn is recovering so quickly!

    • Yes – you definitely don’t want him to get stung INSIDE his mouth! We had a German Shepherd that grabbed a wasp and got stung in his mouth. Not pretty. Don’t grab flying things, Buddy!! 🙂 Thanks so much, Rita! 🙂

  13. Elisha

Such a beautiful card – that little halo😢 – I’m sure the card will be treasured. Poor Finn! Ouch! He looks so pitiful with his swollen schnoozle! Glad his reaction has been a mild one – and that you had Benadryl on hand👍

    • I know. I was afraid he’d have a much worse reaction! Benadryl and Hydrogen Peroxide. First Aid kit for Dogs! Thank you so much, Elisha!! 🙂

  14. Pam

A very sweet and thoughtful card, Mary. Losing a beloved pet is like losing a family as all of us pet lovers know. I especially love the inside. You’re so creative!

    • It sure is. Just thinking about some of the ones that’ve already gone can make me teary! Thank you so much, Pam! Appreciate the kind words! 🙂
