Stampin’ Up! Sweethearts and Tulips for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday, y’all – and welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!  Although a few ladies are off on vacation, we’ve still got some fun projects for y’all.

We had a color challenge this week – and here ’tis.  Pretty!

My card is the result of more mind changing and dithering.  I had a sketch in my head – but when I started actually making the card…about all I stuck with was the Sweetheart TIEF and the Tranquil Tulips.  When it came right down to it – I used a sentiment from the Lovely Words Thinlits and some Eastern Palace Specialty DSP.  Take a look-see:

I started with a piece of the Lemon Lime Twist paper from the Eastern Palace Specialty DSP as a mat (yes – a paper mat!).  The card front itself is a piece of Thick Whisper White card stock that I embossed in the new Sweetheart TIEF.  Using a Sweet & Sassy Framelits die (it’s the one that cut the entire un-embossed heart out of the panel!), I cut the heart out of the panel and SNAILd the whole thing to the Eastern Palace DSP.

I made the flower bouquet by stamping the Tranquil Tulips flowers in Berry Burst on Thick Whisper White.  These are two step stamps – and I stamped them both full strength.  I made eight flowers and then fussy cut them with my Paper Snips.  Then I used my stylus on the back of each one to round it up a bit and give it some depth.

Before I went any further, I stamped a stem from the Tranquil Tulips set – four times – in Lemon Lime Twist – and fussy cut them, too.  I used Liquid Glue to adhere the stems to the backs of four of the tulips.

I knew I was making a bouquet, so I decided that – like any good bouquet – I needed some lacy filler.  So I pulled out one of my favorite dies from the Bouquet Bunch Framelits and cut out a few in Whisper White and Lemon Lime Twist.

I used a Stampin’ Dimensional on the back of all the tulips and adhered them to the card front – making sure they “popped” out the top of my heart cut-out.  I used a little dab of Liquid Glue to stick the stems down.  Each of my “lacy” flowers is stuck into the bouquet with Liquid Glue – hint:  I cut off most of each of their stems before I stuck them in! 🙂

My sentiment is cut from Whisper White and Lemon Lime Twist card stock with the Lovely Words Thinlints.  Remember that those dies cut out the negative space – leaving the “image” in the card stock panel, so I snipped them out.  I adhered them together – with the White on the top – and then adhered them to the Tranquil Tulips with a little more Liquid Glue.

I tied a bow with some Berry Burst 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon and adhered it with some Liquid Glue, and that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I stamped more of the Tranquil Tulips in Berry Burst on a Thick Whisper White panel.  And I added a couple of Lemon Lime stems – and some of the little tiny flowers from the stamp set.  I think those are supposed to be hyacinth – and I’ve never seen a Lemon Lime hyacinth.  But – wouldn’t they be pretty!??

I SNAILd the panel to another piece of Eastern Palace Specialty DSP and into my Thick Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Tranquil Tulip flowers in Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist on the front…

…and some more of the Eastern Palace Specialty DSP on the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  This only sort of resembles the card that was in my head – but I think it’s better than what I’d planned!  I love the dimensional Tranquil Tulips and the Beautiful Bouquet “filler” flowers are so cute in Whisper White and Lemon Lime Twist, don’t you think?  Hope you like!

  1. This is really gorgeous, Mary! Love the tulips with the heart backdrop of Lemon Lime Twist. Fantastic card!

  2. Wow, wow, wow Mary!! That’s beautiful and that’s a ton of fussy cutting!! Love your design, perfect images for those colors! 🙂

  3. Kate

If this beautiful card is what dithering produces, dither on, I say!!!

  4. I thought I left a comment. Maybe not! Beautiful card anyway. Even with the fussy cutting. Sometimes dithering can be a good thing!

  5. Kathy L

Those colors are gorgeous! Love your flower arranging skills. Have you ever tried with real fresh flowers? You’d be a star!

    • LOL! No – I haven’t, Kathy! The times I’ve tried just to put a store bought bouquet in a vase have convinced me I need to stick to paper! But – thanks so much for loving the paper version! 🙂
